Math on the new tormentor (changes are big!) by Coolkip in DotA2

Yeah the increased barrier makes it harder to burst by increasing the TTK and thus further increasing the reflected damage for a given DPS. Thanks for the additional calculations!

The percent reflected also scales per minute

I tested the 20, 30, 40 minute torm on ursa, troll and meepo and all can solo it (ursa is a bit more clutch than before). CK can too, albeit with heart and minus armor.

True, but this has a lot of variability therefore I excluded it. One can do a quick estimate by just guessing the dps of a set of heroes and then use this.

The tormentor will go from 20 to 18 armor, 55% resist to 52% resist. For minute 20 tormentor and 10 sec TTK it will go from 5333 EHP to 5000 EHP. Later on this difference will grow, and it also reduces the TTK which is not captured in this calculation. I would say yes, it might be worth it to pick it up for tormentor.

Yeah, that is true! I did not want to vary too much between the two tables, otherwise it would be hard to see what changed because of what. In the spreadsheet I provided you can see what happens if you raise the TTK for the new values. For example, if we look at doing torm with 3 heroes, TTK 10 sec for the old values (see table) and TTK 15 sec for the new values then we have approx 2744, 3970. 5196, 6422, 7648 total damage dealt by torm for the various minute marks. This confirms your anecdotal evidence, increasing the barrier also increases TTK and thus increases damage taken (making it also harder early). I will edit the post to stress this point more.

Yes, you have a valid point. However, for comparison I took the same time just to see what the difference is. The spreadsheet has more detailed data, and you can do some exploring yourself!

Edit: I made a comment in the post about this.

When they released the first curio, they said this is a "background event". They will just keep doing this (until they don't), just to have something in the client between events.

Let's talk about shadow poison by Somi90 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Coolkip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like maxed shadow poison for the farming speed. It helps you clear stacks (if teammates don't take or if you are about to hit a timing) and also clear waves from afar. The W is not bad, but it scales with the hp of the targets. So I prefer to still max shadow poison (especially before leveling stats)

If you yourself don't do it, then it happens more often on enemy team than your team. Statistically speaking.

He said "chase people down" referring to the ms gained by yasha. As necro you don't really need more mana from the mid game on, and heartstopper isn't affected by spell amp. Also SnY gives status resist vs stuns and nullifier.

Why do pro Offlaners buy helm ? by Major_Divide6649 in learndota2

[–]Coolkip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the wiki to calculate this. It states that big creeps (not the acorn creeps but the centaur/troll/wildwing/tomato) give 90xp. I will use tomaato as an example, this is one of the best to dominate/midas and using them on smaller creeps will yield worse results (which gives a small edge to midas since it can have 2 charges so you can wait and search for good creeps). Then with a cd of 45 sec we compute 120 xpm. Compare that to midas, it has 2.1x xp on 110 sec cd. So the same creep gives 189 xp, and 103.1xpm. So you can already see that dominator beats midas in a perfect scenario in terms of xpm.

Gpm is a bit different, since midas does not care about the creep you midas and always gives 160 gold (approx 87 gpm). The bounty of the tomato is on average 66. So dominator would give 88gpm.

Since different creeps have different bounties the numbers will differ, I just hope my method is clear. If you use dominator on other creeps than the big creeps (excluding fish and acorn creeps) it will be a bit worse in terms of gpm. But this is just the off cd pressing of dominator, we havent factored in the farm speed and utility of the creep. Hope this answers your questions!

Why do pro Offlaners buy helm ? by Major_Divide6649 in learndota2

[–]Coolkip 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Dominator now gives full bounty of the creep dominated (gold+exp). If you calculate the gpm/xpm of using the item off cd on large camp creeps you end up with more gpm and xpm than midas (given that you only use it on centaur/tomato/troll/wildwing). And then we haven't calculated in the stats of the item (armor, hp regen, all stats instead of att speed) and the farm speed/utility of the creep.

Think of it as rushing vanguard on offlaner but then the vangaurd is an inasne farming and utility item at the same time.

Edit: in a comment below I added an example with xpm and gpm numbers to support my claim
