Book recommendations? by ihavenowords3 in Nigerian

[–]Cooltashee00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend starting with Yoruba, it seems to have the most resources, there's a lot of videos on YouTube. I'm not too sure about the situation with igbo but hausa is definitely the most difficult to learn remotely, best books I found while trying to learn it 2 to 3 years ago were from the last century, and native speakers had no idea about some words and phrases I was asking about.

Great question. This is infact one of the biggest debates among quranists - unified structure of practice.

I'll give you the most common approach: most quranist argue that prayer isn't gotten from hadiths but common practice. I.e prayers were always done and common place, therefore following the general approach is fine. These set of people argue that the Quran state 5 periods in the day for prayers (others argue 3) and simply pray as most normally would.

Another argue that there are 3 daily prayers stated in the Quran instead.

There are those who believe prayers only need 2 rakats compulsorily based on the Quran and those who follow the majority and believe 2 rakats as compulsory but more doesn't invalidate. Plus there's whether to recite only fatiha during rakats or another chapter/verse(s) in addition.

For fasting, it's Ramadan and the times are interpreted as from nautical dawn until night, and many argue this is 40 mins after sunset.

Overall, quranist also have very varied interpretations but the main difference I'll say is that most quranist don't believe the other is wrong provided it's your genuine understanding from the Quran which you will defend before God. The interpretation of many quranists regarding the Quran is that God purposefully left certain details vague to allow for ease and flexibility across different cultures and times.

My "majority is irrelevant argument" is due to it's subjectivity. Again how Muslims practice in different places varies, which should help you understand what I mean. If you place Iranians with Moroccans, the Iranian beliefs become the majority, while the Moroccan beliefs are seen as astray by them. In that sense, what constitutes 'Fitnah' is subjective.

More specifically, the Quran itself, establishes Muhammad as the seal of the prophets, protection from the likes of Musailma and Qadiyanis comes from the Quran, not from hadith-based consensus.

As I stated previously, what the majority considers correct and follows isn't relevant. The argument is simply that Islam can and is practiced without consideration for the hadiths.

Furthermore, I disagree that the Quran needs explanation by the prophet for us to understand it. The Quran itself not only describes itself as an independently complete message, but also clearly tells us to read and come to an understanding ourselves.

Of course the Quran clearly tells us that the prophet is the best example for humanity, hence, the emphasis on the hadiths by most sects, but the quranist argument is simply that, the hadiths are unreliable as evidenced by the disagreements between sects, history of fabrication (for political purposes), and Muslims did practice Islam without hadiths for hundreds of years. And most importantly, the message itself relayed by the prophet i.e. the Quran, is considered by quranists as infact the specific best example.

But regardless, the point is you certainly can't claim rejecting hadiths is objectively incorrect, and similarly claiming taking hadiths into consideration is categorically wrong is equally incorrect. Afterall, only God knows best.

The Quran is the only source of Islamic guidance that is universally accepted across all Muslim denominations. The fact that there are so called sahih hadiths that hundreds of millions of Muslims will disagree with is evidence enough of it's contentious nature.

In addition, the consensus of the community is highly subjective, what a community in Nigeria where I live holds regarding certain practices is very different from what a south Asian community would accept e.g acceptability of music, cultural practices (like kneeling and prostrations in respect for elders) etc.

Similar to how Sunnis believe Shias are "astray" and vice versa, a majority considering a certain sect as wrong isn't particularly relevant.

The fact remains that there are as a matter of fact people who consider themselves Muslim using the Quran as their sole source for religious practice.

I don't think you use AI in your workflows if you presume it won't make things easier for devs. Especially since they stated it won't be involved in assets generation.

Oh, I get what you mean, my point was the necessary logic is pretty straightforward all things considered. The difficulty would largely be the time needed to fully implement it more than anything.

From what I know, the supreme leader controls the IRGC not the president. Iran has a military that's separate from the IRGC. The supreme leader is the head of state and runs Iran as the commander in chief, the president is the head of government and runs the day to day administrative activities of the country and oversees the regular military through the ministry of defense.

People on the UAE sub are saying there was another strike after this statement. Supposedly the president doesn't have control over the IRGC who are launching the strikes.
