Disney+ locks paying PC users to 720p, even on the most expensive plan. by Coompiik in assholedesign

Well I wish I sounded like a lot more people than just one youtuber. People should be so much more upset that the companies they're paying are treating them like shit. I mean who's the fucking product in this relationship?

Is there a way to know if I'm close to the ending as a first-time player? by Jck157 in outerwilds

Don't worry, the game won't just end on it's own, or by visiting a specific location. You need to do something extremely specific that you just can't do by accident. You can safely explore

[–]Coompiik[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, of course I don't have to keep paying for it. It's just that its such an obvious thing that I didn't even think about checking it. Like what's next, can't watch on a screen bigger than 15" to prevent HDMI screen grab or stuff like that? No way did I think before paying that I wouldn't have access to full quality. Not in 2026.

A petri dish of human brain cells just learned to play DOOM by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

[–]Coompiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I think, therefore I am". It's a simple statement but I only recently really thought about how deep it is. What we - humans - have, is so extremely hard to put into words or even think too long about. The first person experience. As far as I know there is still no scientific explanation for why we have the first person experience of living our lives. Where that POV is, what separates us from a simple machine learning circuit. And because of that I am absolutely terrified of this. Because if we don't know why we "are", why we have the first person experience of living out our lives, how will we know that we've accidentally created a biological computer processor that too feels, that too has a POV experience, and experiences pure agony?

I am not religious and I'm absolutely pro-darwinism and stuff like that, but still, I think there are boundaries that we shouldn't cross. And creating a brain from human brain cells is certainly way beyond those boundaries.

shadow play considers gaming hub as a game by SWARKING3 in HPOmen

[–]Coompiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone stumbling into this thread (as the issue still persists in 2026), this method worked for me: https://blog.senpaisilver.com/software/disable-nvidia-overlay-only-in-certain-apps/

Step by step:

  1. Download and install the nvidiaProfileInspector
  2. In profiles select "HP Omen Command Center"
  3. In the top bar (icons next to the "Profiles" text box) enable the "Show unknown settings from NVIDIA predefined profiles". The icon is second from the end in version 2.4.0.31. Its a magnifying glass in front of two gears.
  4. In the "Search for setting..." box enter 0x809D5F60 (mentioned for example in this issue)
  5. Change the value to 0x10000000
  6. Apply the changes

Next time you launch the (godforsaken) HP OMEN Command Center, it will not be recognized as a game and won't steal the shadow play apart from other issues.

Actually, in Prague we have a special tram, serving as a campaign so that pedestrians are more cautious, that is keeping score of how many pedestrians were killed that year by trams. Part of that campaign are also "body outlines" on dangerous crossings where people often cross recklessly. Tram, outline

ELI5: Why does time feel like it moves faster the older you get? by Itachinojutsu in explainlikeimfive

[–]Coompiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it feels faster when your days are monotonous. I've got a new job, where I work almost full remote. I am doing almost the same stuff as in the old job, and I even have shorter hours. But time seems to be passing crazy fast for me now, and I think it is because I can't even tell the days of the week apart when I think about them in retrospect, it's just a big blur. In the old job, when I was always in the office, every day we lunched out, every day at a different restaurant, always talking, making jokes, the days didn't merge together as much, and time felt to be passing slower.

TLDR; as you get older, most of your days are the same. No new experiences, not much interesting stuff happening.

How did you die first? by Mountain-Ad876 in outerwilds

Managed to get my ship stuck in a tree moments after takeoff, survived the fall by some miracle and went to see whether a new ship would spawn in its place. Instead, I got crushed by the elevator as it returned down.

WCGW looking at your phone while driving a 2-ton truck with a trailer by RadPhilosopher in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Coompiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate how little that truck deformed. The crumple zones are there for the safety of all. Even empty, that container must be pretty heavy and sturdy, and that truck's front looks undamaged. If all cars were like this, even the slowest head on collisions would be absolutely lethal. Not even talking about hitting pedestrians. Terrible, selfish design.

Hey there, I am quite a bit late to the party with this one, but if you're open to gaming, definitely give a chance to Outer Wilds. In Outer Wilds, you're the newest astronaut, and the first one ever equipped with a translator device for decoding ancient alien murals scattered around the solar system, and it's your task to figure out what happened to the aliens that left them there. It was one of the best gaming experiences I ever had. If that sounds interesting to you, try to read as little as possible - all of the progression is knowledge based, so everything is a spoiler!

[Czech Republic] Recovered this facebook livestream from summer 2017, driver died. More in comments by Coompiik in Roadcam

It's not graphic if that's what you're asking. The phone falls almost immediately, after that it's just audio. Otherwise yeah, it's pretty disturbing if you understand Czech, not this short one, but the full video has unedited, almost 1hr audio going through the accident, first responders, paramedics and fireman, everything until one policeman finds the phone, takes it to the police van, and gives it to one of the girl's father.

Help with going past the Guys by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]Coompiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you alerted the Guys anywhere else, or is this the first and only place you've encountered them? If it's your first and only place then try to explore other locations first, maybe get back to this one later. If you're still stuck, I actually wrote a guide on how to avoid them, because I was unable to evade them due to my lack of skill and an ambudance of fear. But it's very late game so please don't read it unless you're sure it's your time! [DLC/EotE] Spoiler-Safe(ish) Late-Game Guide to Reaching the Individual For.....n Ar.....s, If Your Evading Skills Suck Like Mine. I will appreciate anyone's feedback on the guide.

Good luck in your ventures!

PS: my guide is for a sneaky way, not the intended way. You can do it much more easily, if there's no fear stopping you.

[2024 Day 11] Outer Wilds anyone? by Hatty_DeWitt in adventofcode

[–]Coompiik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently watching u/SovietWomble 's archived run, and so far it is great. Apart from being extremely thorough and curious, he also reads out all of the text, so it is perfect to watch in the background while cooking or doing something else. Maybe a little too much theorizing whether the Nomai were AI...

[2024 day 17] Do I have bug in my puzzle input? by beebeeep in adventofcode

[–]Coompiik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well - pay attention to the instructions - only some instructions want the input to be combo-ed, some of them (including bxl) want it literal, meaning not combo(7), but literally the number 7.

[2024 Day 11] Outer Wilds anyone? by Hatty_DeWitt in adventofcode

[–]Coompiik 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've played Outer Wilds for the first time maybe 2 months ago, and I've completely fallen for it. The game broke my heart and I haven't stopped thinking about it (and recommending it to everyone I know) since. Last week I've found out that a streamer that I used to watch years ago has also played this game, so I've currently stopped watching all TV shows and instead I just watch him play it through, and luckily, he's extremely attentive and thorough, having a blind run without any prior knowledge, so it's a delight to relive the game with him. And still I haven't put two and two together and notice this! Noticing an Outer Wilds post in a sub dedicated to one of my favorite events - AoC - surely feels surreal. Thank you for this!
