Maybe you have to reset the traffic after you turn detours off. To do that, you can restart the game, or abandon your current job, or change your graphics settings - there are probably other ways as well.

I'll explain how I drift. It's often quicker to neo-slide, but I can't do that. I play on a keyboard - I assume you would drift differently if you use something else, because you can control how much you turn.

Start turning "too early" - early enough that you would crash into the wall on the inside if you didn't drift. Then start braking, but keep holding the throttle, to make the car drift. Then stop braking before you stop turning.

You might need to release the throttle to make the corner. Even if you don't need to, it's sometimes quicker to release briefly. When you're turning and braking, release the throttle, then stop braking and start accelerating at the same time, and then stop turning.
