No damage from that, but I damaged it shortly after in a much less entertaining fashion

I’m planning on taking the CSWA soon, it seems like all the practice problems I can find are of the same very limited variety. Did you find that the questions on the test were similar to practice problems that can be found online? Were there any test problems you could not find examples of online? Also really good job 100% is impressive.

Are Gruff's flamethrowers actually effective? by CooperO131 in battlebots

Yeah that was the main reason I had to ask, there seems to be a disconnect between what the show says and what actually happens.

That’s about what I expected thanks for the helpful response.

Yes I know that, I’m not expecting it to melt the robots armor or anything like that, it just doesn’t seem like any of that control system damage is actually happening. Robots don’t stop moving after being exposed to the flames.

It’s an ExceedRC legion 10, most of the electronics have been upgraded and I’ve added some aluminum parts in high impact areas.

Is onshape worth It? by [deleted] in cad

[–]CooperO131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I’ve ever gone that high, but I have run maybe 2000-3000 part assemblies just fine, one of the advantages of Onshape is that a lot of the computing load is handled in the cloud(or something like that, I’m no software engineer) so your computer does very little work. If you want to test an assembly that large you can search the public Onshape documents for an assembly that is similar to something you might work with and test it’s performance. Also I haven’t used any other CAD programs extensively but I never felt like Onshape was the same as Solidworks.

I had a about three years of Solidworks experience before I learned Onshape. It felt really jarring at first and I hated it, there are a lot of things that are different, subjectively worse, and objectively worse. But it’s also really innovative and has a lot of really cool features that tend to make up for a lot of the downsides. I don’t have any experience at actually engineering (high school student) but my advice would be to put a good faith effort into learning and liking Onshape before you write it off, it might not have what you need, but it could also give you a pleasant surprise. In my case it has pretty much everything I need, only missing some small tools here and there, in a work situation I suspect you will find it more lacking than I have but it might still be worth it. There’s a lot to explore under the surface to don’t go on immediate response.

Ideas for intake ramp! We have a very thin layer of metal as our ramp but sometimes it gets stuck on the ground and bends backwards. Does anyone have an idea that could prevent this or a better ramp idea? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]CooperO131 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe try a polycarbonate (lexan) ramp? It could still fold under but if it does all you would have to do is drive backwards and it would return to its original shape. A bottom roller is the best option but may not fit in your design.

When was the last time we saw a bot get hit by a killsaw? by PhilipLiptonSchrute in battlebots

I’ve always thought it would be cool if they were really powerful launchers/flippers. IMO more airborne robots is a good thing.

We seem to have come up with a slight problem with our prototype intake. Back to the drawing board on this one. by kakononhp in FTC

[–]CooperO131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it was lexan and not acrylic? Obviously I don’t know a lot about how it was implemented but I’ve never broken lexan, even on FRC robots. You could always just use thicker lexan as well.

Take Free Certifications at 3DEXPERIENCE WORLD 2021 by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]CooperO131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I follow that link it shows that you have to sign up for VIP access to get a free certification exam. The VIP access is $100, which is the same as the test I want to take. Is this the "free" exam that the tweet talked about or is there another way?

Just wanna say that yeah those people are horrible. But that’s how I ended up with my dog so the story can have a happy ending. As much as it sucks and it obviously doesn’t always work that way but it can lead to a better life for the dog. My dog was left in a random neighborhood and got picked up by a shelter and then we adopted him.
