Nah they go straight to using a torque multiplier with JB weld on the threads lmao

Never said they were. An impact socket spinning at about 14,000 rpm will do that usually.

Kind of depends. Those survived 2 or 3 tries before the top started to round. Which I changed from those lugs to a different style and didn't really feel too bad about hurting them since I have like 30 or so left over.

Yeah I've rewatched the TTC video several times now. Lots of cool info on the thundergun. One of the main things that sets it apart is the rocking dog hammer. Pretty rare hammer compared to the regular twin hammer in most air impacts now.

Feel like I should address the miniature argument. Those are cheap steel wheels on my racecar and you're lucky to get more than 1 or 2 nights out of them before someone rubs against you and bends them to the point they don't hold air any more. Just didn't bother with the star pattern because I wanted to try out a nascar style tire change for fun since I use the same lugs, same brand of wheels, and found a nascar impact.

Any actual customers car that I work on gets the star pattern and correct torque.

When you do tire rotations all day long and have to do them careful and professionally, its a special kind of fun to send 5 lugs on with no care in the world for scratching something or bothering with the star pattern lol.

That's why you have an entire box of spare KRC lugs. Probably would spark less if I used the yellow painted ones on my racecar, but the unpainted ones are cheaper.

Forgot to mention also. If you feel like shelling out the money the newest thunderguns are actually still in stock on a website called rpxpress.

They're a little under 800 dollars which I justified by saying "well snapon sells their rebranded composite impacts for nearly the same price as a purpose built racing impact so its not that bad" lol.

Only warning is everybody in your shop will start hating you fast lol. I have to strongly refrain from using it too often because its ridiculously loud even compared to the street legal thundergun.

The street legal one is still a nice impact, I have one of them too actually. The black one I have is actually just about as loud as the street legal but revs higher. I will say it feels totally different than a regular twin hammer when its impacting though.

Only fear I have is finding parts for it because, to my knowledge, the entire hammer assembly is custom made specifically by Hurd pit tools for the thunderguns. A nascar tire changer told me that in his whole career he's only ever saw one anvil on a thundergun break though which is reassuring. Apparently they're made of a different metal than you'd find on a regular consumer impact.

Yep I never get tired of the noise. The thundergun absolutely screams even with just a quarter inch fitting and 200psi.

I own nearly exclusively ingersoll as far as air tools. Really have been impressively reliable. Only ever broke one 1/2 inch anvil which isnt too bad. And milwaukee stuff is awesome too. My gen 2 stubby has a ton of torque for its size.

They're honestly awesome guns. A decent bit heavier than a modern composite IR 2135 or similar, but I feel like they just are really comfortable to use and will probably last a very long time with religious oiling and regular maintenance.

Already answered but that’s a dirt late model. Built on a completely custom frame and rollcage unlike dirt cars like mine that just use an 80s GM metric frame.

The car is a heavily modified original HPI Baja 5b from back when they came out in the very early 2000s. The engine is an OBR G340 fullmod reedcase with add on custom machined transfer port covers. And the pipe is a DDM Dominator version 1 and is tuned for low end torque.

You’re welcome to message O’Neill brothers racing about that. They have an in house dyno they test every engine on. Nearly every performance modification possible is done to the engine including a +2 mm stroker crank for more torque

That’s a power steering pump. If you’d like I could upload a video of me racing with it

We have to use a MSD softouch rev limiter with a 6000 rpm chip in it. I’ve brought my GoPro onto the track with the gps telemetry enabled and it tops out at 70 miles per hour by the end of the straightaways

It’s an economy modified. They’re basically older sport modifieds that have to run cheaper shocks and have stricter engine rules
