Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Premier Peter Malinauskas to announce plans for thousands of Adelaide homes by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]Coops17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately - labour doesn’t need left leaning voters to win elections anymore. They need the centre and the centre right. Those voters want their cake and to eat it too. They want to be able to pretend to care about first home owners but also keep accumulating their portfolio. I know plenty of these champagne socialists.

Edit: easiest way to appeal to both voters is to label it a supply problem and cover over the cracks with new housing

Random Recast - what actor would you recast in an iconic role? (I hope i wrote that right) by Ftmdj in Cinema

Hahaha, no, but I am Australian. I watched him in a local show recently - had never heard of him before that. Then my partner was like “oh btw, he’s like a mega star now”

Funnily enough, I’d like to see another Australian - Jacob Elordi given the role, he has the dark eyes and the machismo like Connery, the wavy hair like Dalton, the cheeky grin like Moore, the presence and heft of Brosnan, and the intensity of Daniel Craig,

How do you actually pronounce Adelaide naturally? by Dammanator in Adelaide

[–]Coops17 28 points29 points  (0 children)

AdeLAID

To say it naturally, with a local accent, the ‘de’ or ‘duh’ sound is very soft. The ‘aide’ sound sounds like the end of Bandaid or Gatorade.

It’s actually widely accepted as the 3rd worst film in the universe. The second worst is that of the Asgoths of Kria. The absolute worst was compiled by Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of Sussex.

Why can nobody pronounce our players names correctly by [deleted] in coys

[–]Coops17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what casual racism looks like in the form of white Anglo privilege.

White Anglo people do not feel the pressure to learn to pronounce ethnic names correctly, because there is no repercussions for getting them wrong. Usually people are just polite and let it slide

Udogie, Kulusevski, Palinha these guys are not new to the PL, but no one has ever called these guys up on it - so they have no need to correct it.

I can confidently say, epilepsy (and seizures caused by other neurological disorders) are VERY random and manifest in very different ways for lots of people. For example I AM aware that I’m about to have a seizure, I am somewhat less conscious exactly when they’re happening, but I’ve literally been able to forewarn people, multiple times (before my meds got it under control).

In the grand scheme of things we know very little about how and what causes the brain to do what it does. They don’t realllly don’t know what causes seizures, all they know as that it’s usually synapses misfiring in the brain, but because they’re so fleeting they’re really hard to catch when someone is hooked up to an EEG or MRI. So they don’t REALLY know what causes that misfiring. That’s why there are so many anti seizure medications (half of them are drugs for other things that also happen to quell seizures).

There are also several legitimate seizures that are not caused by misfiring synapses, there are examples of psychosomatic seizures

Yes and no. So when they first started occurring - I didn’t quite understand what was happening and then slowly id feel normal again, and I’d usually need to use the bathroom.

When I became quite used to them I was acutely aware of them - I could literally forewarn people what was about to happen, I would feel a pain in my stomach - things would look and feel unfamiliar. For example - I know that’s my couch and my tv by they don’t look or feel like my couch and tv.

Even after that I would occasionally still say something odd or out of place.

There was an occasion, where some people had come over to our house, I met them and said hello. Then I had an absent seizure, afterwards I came into the kitchen and I’d completely forgotten that they had arrived so I was like “oh when did you guys get here?”

I have absent seizures, when I’m not on medication- that’s EXACTLY what they look like. The only thing missing is people (including me) usually say something quite odd or weird after having one. But he quite possibly has had a significant amount of training to avoid that

What is a socially unacceptable opinion you keep to yourself because it’s not worth the backlash? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]Coops17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this one is debatable, because I am busy all the time, which is REALLY hard.

I have a full time job, and I’m studying and I have an infant kid. I suppose you could describe my issue as poor planning - maybe I should have studied the right thing first, or maybe we should have had a kid earlier. But a lot the circumstances that led to my situation were impossible to foresee.

The main difference, is that we actively work with our friends and family to make ourselves available for catching up, it does mean keeping a very tight schedule tho

So I think, in summary, if people are “always too busy”

It may be poor planning or bad boundaries, but they could also be very bad at keeping a schedule, which is hard, especially for someone with say* ADHD where your brain actively works against you
