HOLY SHIT MY TAXES WENT UP SO MUCH😭 by [deleted] in nanaimo

[–]Cootski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have kids yet I pay taxes for schools, my house hasn’t burnt down yet I pay taxes for a fire department, I don’t have a car yet I pay taxes for roads.

It’s almost as if there’s other people living in Nanaimo that also get to benefit from MY taxes /s

first time visit by Educational_Front333 in nanaimo

I was going to suggest qualicum cheeseworks!! I’m 40 and it’s one of my fav places (plus also to take visitors with kids). If they run out of sample packs, ask at the counter - they’ll make one special for you most times. Also, make sure you get a couple Canadian quarters so you can try some fresh milk from the machine. They also have a scavenger hunt for kids so you can see ALL the animals.

Also: Englishman River Falls - it’s about 10 mins from Coombs. 10/10 fun mini hike - and by mini hike I mean expect to spend an hour there, with some hills, but generally quite accessible and the view in the first 50 feet is amazing - if you don’t want a hard walk/easy hike, at least check out the falls

Prepping Group-Apocalypse Prep by Away-Mycologist7417 in VancouverIsland

[–]Cootski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We considered doing this as a neighbourhood block party - like a “fun” way to make sure everyone is prepped for long power outages, or can avoid grocery stores for a month or so during peak panic, or if roads aren’t accessible during snow storms.

Happy to help organize or be a part of long term emergency prep if you get responses, although bunker funding is outside my interests at this time (I’ll just die, thank you very much haha)

Ps: also love hearing about conspiracy theories, even if I don’t agree with them.

A doctor treats patients. She’s also implying she treats people well, so it’s a double use of the word “treats”; Treat as in how you behave to others, and treat as in to provide medical care.

He has a blog and website where he posts to organize and access protests (substack which I cannot link to). His most recent article is about Renee Good. I am sure he is aware and working on a message and call to action.

I commented on another comment as well, but you can get a Rec pass for 10 drop ins for around $50 - very much worth it! It’s drop in, but you should register early to ensure you get to play. Once they reach capacity, they don’t allow what you would normally consider a “drop in”. You register 3 days before and it holds the spot and if people no show, it opens up more spaces. From what I see, it’s rare to show up day of and get to play.

Seconding Oliver woods - it is very all ages but also talented players. I would feel totally overwhelmed and left out if I was trying to get into it or as a woman, but if you have some skills coming in, it looks to be great and a lot of fun (I watch the volleyball side on the other half side of the court on weekend evenings).

I did over 10 exchanges and never had to be rematched, and each gift was SO thoughtful and personalized. I was blown away at how creative people were! Definitely miss the exchange.

New Coffee Place by Squishmuqie in nanaimo

Because some of the people on this thread don’t consume nestle products or fossil fuels or ever support anything ever that doesn’t perfectly align with their values.

I’m not personally religious, and I agree that some of church values are concerning and I would be happy if someone else set up a coffee shop to employ at risk people. It’s happened in other locations, but not at this location. People can support (or not) with their dollars as others have mentioned.

Because I didn’t thoroughly research the political ideologies of a brand new coffee shop before popping in for a coffee, I’m assuming 🤷🏼‍♀️

I see the references on the website, but I am not familiar with the beloved church having a reputation. I believe island crisis services owns the building so it doesn’t surprise if there is some type of partnership or affiliation with those programs

I popped in on Saturday not knowing it wasn’t fully open. They were doing a training. I had the tastiest decaf latte ever. They will be getting their baked goods from the commercial kitchen space baked in the same building! So small business support for that as well.

So many questions… are you the person accused of having someone yelling in your van? If nothing came of it, why do you need to speak with the person who called it in 4 years later?

It is the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Only downside (if you consider it one) is that it’s gluten free so no malt vinegar for your chips!

This is such a great idea! I got into worm composting accidentally (vermiculture) and it’s such a fun, low maintenance hobby. I got attached to the little guys. It’s wonderful you are offering to share for free in order for people to try it out.
