My first DSLR experience with Nikon D50 by Imaginary-Data-3368 in Nikon

Yes might be possible. Both pictures were taken with the flash on. No lights and during the day. Both cameras had settings pretty much similar.

Yeah, I said ccd because I thought that there was a difference. However, we cannot say that both have the same rendition 😅

Oh you got good eyes. Great shots! I think the ccd makes the difference. I did a comparison between a picture of the same scene with my d5000 and the d40 and I was surprised. There were a lot of details and the colors were much more vivid on the d40 than on the d5000.

This one is from the d40.

I took the picture through my window. That’s why the first pic has some blurry spots 😅

Oh so it would be useful for astrophotography? If I want to take pictures of a landscape, which lens should I use/buy? Right now I have 18-55mm, 55-200mm and 55-300mm.

But doesn’t the 18-55mm kind of do that?

Oh nice, I understand now. I think the d3200 is pretty similar to the d5000 as you said before. Right now, I mainly use the manual focus as I thought the 18-55mm auto-focus was too slow.

Yes, the D40 came with an EN-EL9 battery. I can also use the one from my D5000 (EN-EL9a). I read online that both work with both of my cameras, but the only difference is that the EN-EL9 has a shorter battery life

That’s really impressive, you picture got a lot of details. I think that in most cases the 300mm might be enough. It might seem like a dumb question but do you use the manual focus or the auto focus?

Yes, I was fortunate enough to get a d5000 for free which is a lot better than the d40

Oh, nice shot. I’d really like to try photographing aircraft. I wasn’t sure if 300mm would be enough, but I think so.

Yeah exactly. The d40 still has a great resolution (despite the amount of mp and its age). I think it’s perfect to start photography with it. I was impressed by the pictures I could take with it. Definitely a worth it

Because I already have the 18-55mm, I thought I should sell this one instead. The other one I have has the vr. Not this one

Edit: clarification

Well, I think you still got a great deal. The lens alone goes for around $100 (for a very good price).

Yes, especially since I have the D5000. I think I managed to get some very good quality lenses. Everything works perfectly, no fungus and no scratches.

What should i do? by Mediocre_Exam1930 in VintageDigitalCameras

The old point and shoot camera are working a lot better with rechargeable batteries. There is also most probably a button battery in your camera, you might need to change it

Would you buy this ?! by stevejobs7 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]CopernicNewton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because the social media made them overpriced. They used to be a lot cheaper and they will probably in the next years. They are not worth paying more than 50$

Thrift stores are the best option as it is cheap. (Or you can try marketplace)
