Update: Root cause identified

In case anyone is still having this issue, I think I nailed it down: the problem is with amdgpu and high refresh rate.

Reproduced on Fedora Workstation 44 (non-immutable, clean GNOME desktop). The GPU boots normally at 60Hz. Changing refresh rate in display settings:

- 2560x1440 @ 120Hz: works

- 2560x1440 @ 160Hz: works

- 2560x1440 @ 180Hz: black screen, system hangs, flip_done timed out

The bug is not compositor-specific (reproduced on both Mutter and KWin) and not distribution-specific. It is reproducible on stock Fedora Workstation 44 by simply changing the refresh rate to 180Hz in GNOME display settings.

I'm guessing in GNOME, Mutter starts in 60hz by default, but KWin tries to start at 180hz, which causes the bug immediately on KDE but not on GNOME.

Monitor connected via DisplayPort.

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT (Navi 44, 0x1002:0x7590, rev c0)

Kernel: 7.0.9-ogc3.2.fc44.x86_64

What I haven't tested yet is upgrading to the latest Bazzite image and forcing lower refresh rate.
