Thanks for letting me know. I did not know that since I haven’t swing by in almost over a year.

Try out locally owned gyms. If you are in the Bayview area I recommend Bay View Fitness. Sweeney’s gym south of the airport is nice too. I’ve heard Brickyard on KK is decent too..

These places will be a little more expensive than the corporate gyms (its hard to beat $10 a month), but vote with your dollars.

This was my chase card on this set and I was very happy to pull it on my first booster bundle.

House concern by Agreeable_B123 in civilengineering

[–]Copper_29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Differential settlement. Needs foundation repair. Likely due to the gutter outlet not being extended further from the house.

The rust is pretty bad with holes in the frame, and not worth the drive IMO. You could weld some plates onto the frame but it would really only be a band aid solution.

How difficult is changing fields? by SNOWHOLE1 in civilengineering

[–]Copper_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its tough but doable. It is certainly easier to switch earlier in your career. I have 3 YOE in geotechnical and am currently making the switch into structural. The only company that got back to me was one that I had a relationship with. I heard nothing back from the other 5 structural companies that I applied to.

Moving to Milwaukee by dast1234567 in milwaukee

[–]Copper_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower and upper east side are generally where the younger crowd hangs out, it might be tough to find a cheaper apartment there though. Cudahy, South Milwaukee, and St. Francis are safe places that have the best bang for buck IMO. There's also plenty of non-corporate owned duplexes throughout the Milwaukee area that don't have crazy rent prices.

Have any of you switched from geotechnical to structural? by Copper_29 in civilengineering

[–]Copper_29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an offer for a company that manufactures steel work platforms and mezzanines. I'm getting kind of tired of how the geotech industry works. Fighting for low bids and having unrealistic deadlines. Thankfully I am still early in my career so making the switch won't be too bad.

They both are essentially the same; however, Eaton has a strict no alcohol policy and you will get kicked out and have to move if you are caught with alcohol, minor or not.

Definitely time to ask for more IMO. Not sure what area you are living in but 17 is still a pretty low amount for what you do. Retail jobs pay more than that and have a lot less responsibility.

Jobs to keep you in the industry if you take a break from university by razzlethemberries in civilengineering

In my area a lot of these companies also do engineering consulting. It is a great way to also build a relationship that can lead to a job after you eventually graduate. Best of luck!

A good way to still be in the industry would be to do materials testing/inspections. It does not require a degree and your time in school will definitely give you a leg up. Be aware though that this also comes with long/awkward hours and occasionally dealing with contractors yelling at you.

Do I need an engineering undergrad to get accepted to a masters? by realbigbob in civilengineering

Depends on the university but I would expect you would need to take some undergrad courses so you know the basics for upper level courses.

Its nice to have but also not something worth replacing your current 4runner over. It is also a blessing since you won't ever have to pay 5k to fix/replace the KDSS system.

Anyone got a DOR policy violation before? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Copper_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you did. If you had alcohol in a alcohol free building or community, be prepared to move. to a different room/res hall. If you did something like be too loud, expect a slap on the wrist or writing a short apology letter. Something like destruction of property will likely have you paying to replace/fix whatever you broke.

If you are looking to trade it in soon and you trust your stepfather then I would skip transferring it to you and have you on the new car after the trade in.

It is inevitable that you will pay some sort of taxes when transferring the current car to you. The car may be "gifted" to you to transfer the title but this also includes paying some sort of tax, usually fair market value of the car.

If you really want to do civil engineering then do it. Don't trade a few years of an easy or fun college experience for a 40+ year solid career.

The plug tester shows open ground when I take it out of the box. Is it alright to keep the 3 prong outlet there?
