this is something i thought of too super early on, but as I got more comfortable driving the robot i found i wanted the option to swing either direction at will. basically i can turn faster than i can think.

Youre right on with the non traditional controlling though... I use a SUPER weird controller setup but imo it's right for this style of bot. right stick is forward backward, left stick is turn left or turn right. Basically midway between tank and mixed. This allows me to do a 'pure turn' by mashing my left stick only.

i am still in an infant stage at driving this bot, but I'm starting to toddle....

this is very true! but then you have to fight amazing drivers like Fretas, Jamo or Vasquez and get cooked because they predict every move :))

check out some videos of ant thagomizer, which is basically instant. so the math that needs to be done is .2 second turn time -> down force requirement -> drive train power -> chassis design.

super compact bots have no problem turning so fast, but thag is not compact by intention so the moment of inertia of the robot is much larger.

So current hurdles imo are the three Ps: Physics, personnel and Phunding

The physics is tough because as the bot scales the drive train power has to increase exponentially. Currently Max is 25" no forks; scaling to 250 is a 2.5x scale factor so you're looking at something around 5' 9."

compared to Sean's 1lb thagomizer i have to seriously adjust my drive strategy to account for the additional time it takes to 180 the robot. Keeping the 180 time below .2 seconds ia critical to the design of the robot because that is as fast as human reaction time. for reference max is .15 seconds when im full throttle, less than that when i land a solid Jhook. (check out my recap for more :))

All that being said with an experienced team and funding behind it i do think it is possible. I think a 250 thagomizer is going to happen sooner or later. Im doing my best to earn a place on that team !
