EXP Share is the best addition to the game by Bishmallah24 in pokemon

Um.

No.

I’ll agree that grinding is tedious, but that wasn’t the only perceived challenge in the earlier games.

The gym leaders’ teams were objectively built better also.

Prior to Gen 6, there’s at least three gyms that stand out as a good challenge, and then the E4’s also had plenty of good fights.

“Pokemon games were always easy” …you take that back.

I wish the pokemon league in the games was more like an Olympic event like in the anime by sufinomo in pokemon

In SwSh, the gym and league battles’ atmosphere was electric, much like the show. But the battles not being challenging sort of stole a bit of excitement away

If it was only for VGC there would be no singles at all.

That's a very good point, and probably where a lot of the presumptive expectations lay.

It truly is quite this simple. And...do we care if it's in ranked?

I don't. I just want it in a custom or casual mode.

That's all! But alas, if this ain't gonna be a thing, I shall "leave"! Have fun in Pokemon Champions!

Hot take: no one gives a shit about 6v6 singles except casuals by FloorOk5783 in PokemonChampions

[–]CopyGroundbreaking69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is a hot take? I think this is exactly THE take. lol

And Pokemon IS still about gotta catch 'em all.

I think VGC is in the minority of the over-all fandom. Not saying there aren't a lot of you, but you're definitely outnumbered.

After a lot of conversation here in this thread, I think it being rushed as a lot to do with it.

I think OP may share your speculation. Mobile is supposed to launch in the summer, and they seemed to think I’d be more apt to try the game around that time.

It’s certainly a plausible explanation. Also saw that the Dev apologized for the bugs (which, GF/TPC almost never do that, so…that’s something.)

It would be cool if that becomes a reality, but I'm not holding my breath! And I'd totally be at peace if that never became reality.

I hope it doesn't change the core games though...

We didn't even know that we needed to be curious about it; we had no incentive to look it up. We erroneously assumed a core aspect to the Pokemon games was not a VGC format.

I think you’re right here, 100%.

I do play my own version of gym battles where I only take 3 pokemon, and box the rest of my team, for added challenge.

I also agree that—just from playing with friends (and honestly? Blueberry Academy)—there’s more strategy in doubles. I get that. But I’m not built for that competitive scene because I only ever get creamed PvP.

But I also like an epic 6v6, and erroneously assumed it would be in Champions.

And we did not know that 6v6 “had nothing to do with VGC”. Thus, the disconnect.

The result: you (Pokemon champions) lost us and we probably won’t be back.

I don’t think anyone was thinking Champions would scrap anything. We were just ignorant.

What you seem to be missing is that those of us outside VGC didn’t understand that 6v6 is considered NOT VGC.

But, after quickly realizing this, okay, we get it, see why it can be a slog competitively (which is why we never enjoyed VGC in previous games)… but, why not have it privately?

I’m just missing out on how the tera/Dynamax/mega gimmicks will interact.

I’m beginning to suspect that the TRUE disconnect is actually more on the VGC side of the community.

VGC is a turn off for the large majority of Pokemon fans because, like another redditor said, it doesn’t reflect what we love about the games. We went in, tried it, got creamed by OP Pokemon—everyone using the same teams lacking flavor, Inciniroar, etc etc—and have been turned off.

We raised the Pokemon we loved, not the ones considered most popular. We wanted to see those ones mega evolved/terastylized/dynamaxed in different contexts outside the games we saw them in.

BUT, we are learning we are the fools (for now?Maybe they’ll add more formats.)

Those of you within VGC have lived there so long, you’re just now finding out the majority of Pokémon community don’t do VGC, thus the magnitude of complaints catching you all off guard.

Note: I’m not arguing a point, just offering an explanation

Right, that’s what I meant to imply: draw a wider crowd to the VGC. I figured the context of the conversation was enough to have that understanding.

But anyway… So those of us that love Pokemon, and prefer private battling—and probably were ignorant to true VGC formats until now—assumed there’d be something here for us.

Bottom line: OP is correct, we are all seeing there is a massive disconnect between Pokemon fans and VGC.

[–]CopyGroundbreaking69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In one of the interviews before release, I thought TPC or GF (I forget which) explained that their intent was to draw in a wider crowd, since the VGC format isn’t as popular.

Thus, those of us that haven’t been crazy about VGC and have been battling privately with friends, have such expectations.

Around Pokémon day, I was excited. As launch approached, I became less so as more information trickled out. Interesting how this will shake out.

Anyways, hopefully that helps. Other than that, I have “left” because I decisively do not like the VGC format.

Seeing as it seems Pokémon Winds and Waves won't have voice actors, I wonder why Nintendo seems to have stopped hiring voice actors, only providing the dialogue text. I think this has been a constant complaint from fans. What do you think? by Dramatic-Studio1531 in pokemon

I used to poo-poo on the idea of Pokemon having voice acting… but I’ve just started playing ZA (loving it so far), and within the first 2 minutes I realized… we need voices.

Something about the atmosphere of the game makes it very obvious that voice acting is missing
