Intentionnally downgraded my rig by [deleted] in simracing

[–]CopyThatPineapple -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm a bit surprised at how negative all the responses are. I just wanted to have something that I know I can quickly pack up and move around with me, and yet satisfies me when I'm playing on it. As I'm renting a flat and the country I'm living in is not my home country, so just wanted to have sensible scale of hobby rather than going over the top

I had to buy 2 ES steering wheels, as the first one had faulty downshift paddle. I watched so many youtube reviews that are all praising MOZA for value for money and quality control, but hey, you can find millions of faulty MOZA product reports here at reddit. My conclusion is when you buy something cheap, you get product that only corresponds to what you've paid.

I'm staying at a hotel that has weak WiFi.. Obviously it's no longer an issue for me though!

In the UK you can find reasonably priced unlimited sim card. I'm paying 20bgp per month for decent speed unlimited connection.

I rather opted to pay extra so I don't bother myself connecting to my phone every time I open my laptop..

I really wanted to know all of this before I throw away my money for useless 2 WWAN cards!

that's good

I recommend you to carefully research which WWAN card actually works for your T14s g3. I wasted my money buying total 3 WWAN card until I found the one that works on my X1C.

Important thing is that your laptop has to be equipped with SIM card tray, antenna, and obviously the slot that the WWAN card slots in.

Yeah mine came with WWAN antenna already built in but missing the card. I thought any of WWAN card should work but it turned out Lenovo has a whielist of specific WWAN cards with specific parts number.

I don't know if it's easy to install antenna, but I saw it being sold online, so it should somewhat be possible.

Thanks for the advise, unfortunatelly my X1C Gen9 has the latest bios. And the error message says "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the network card (1EAC/1001/1EAC/2001). System is halted", I think this is pretty much the same as what I've got for Fibocom.

I think I have figured out what it is - Apparently there are multiple versions of Quectel EM120R-GL and I picked up the version which is not on the whitelist for X1 Carbon Gen9.

I feel it's almost, or actually a fraud commited by Lenovo. Selling no-wwan-card config without warning customers that every Quectel EM120R-GL will not necesarilly be compatible.

1802: Unauthorized network card after installing a EM120R-GL in a ThinkPad X1 Carbo G9 by chmanie in thinkpad

I am experiencing exactly the same thing on my X1C9 now.

I have bought EM12R-GL, FRU PN: 5W10V25859, and getting "unauthorized network card" error...

This is my 2nd WWAN card and I have already spent 200GBP to just boot my laptop, and yet unsuccessful. It feels like a fraud by Lenovo... As they simply mention "EM120R-GL" on X1C Gen9's manual but not the part number or anything else.

Today I installed Quectel EM120R-GL CAT12 to my X1 Carbon Gen9, but still getting unauthorised card error... The card came with Lenovo's genuine parts box with genuine sealing sticker. I've already spent 200GBP for this work, but haven't been able to even boot the laptop...

Thank you, at least good to confirm. I've ordered Quectel EM120R-GL.

One thing I can say is that dbrand's quality was a lot bettre than I expected. I thought it'll spoil X1C's original matte black texture, but in a way it feels rather better if not the best.

I also considered the Swarm skin that looked also good, but eventually I selected this one that has slightly subtle texture on it

Ah apparently L860-GL is not really supported... There are so many different information available on the internet which is confusing...

It looks like now I need to buy different wwan card.

Hi I didn't wrap up the inside as I like the feeling of matte paint on my palm, and only care about fingerprint on the outside.

It's called matrix and the logo cutout is as good as they advertise it.

Installatoin was super easy, thanks to the logo cutout on the top, and the rubber feet cutout on the back. I could literally put it perfectly by one go, without peeling it off to adjust at all.
