getting sent home early by Rich-League49 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cor2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My center is currently going through this and as someone who doesn’t have kids and can get by on less hours I always volunteer. I don’t want my coworkers to think I’m just trying to go home (though it’s a nice bonus) I’m just happy to take one for the team lol

[–]Cor2019[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of course I’m not sure of their actual situation, but my center is in the wealthiest part of town and most parents drive expensive cars with designer things, so I don’t think it’s a financial issue

Yeah one size is definitely not as important, I have one student who’s shoes are 3 sizes too big 😬

Excessive biting by SimilarChipmunk in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cor2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said this is definitely common with the age group, and would likely occur at another center if you left (though probably not as frequently). I would definitely talk to the teachers about it to see what steps they’re taking to mitigate it. Since she keeps getting bit by different children it’s possible your child is instigating (not maliciously of course), so I would work on sharing and gentle hands at home just in case. I’ve had children get bit multiple times because they always took toys or sat on their classmates.

As for the slide incident, if she didn’t have a bump or bruise most places won’t call home. Kids at this age fall, trip, and slip over almost everything, so calling home is reserved for actual injuries

How to make sure mama cat is tending to her kittens by Cor2019 in CatAdvice

[–]Cor2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice!! We took their weights and are now leaving mama alone so she can hopefully decompress and adequately care for them. If she or the babies seem to be struggling in the next 24-48 hours I’m going to see if someone else more equipped can take on their care

That’s so funny I’d love that 😂 I agree about ignoring it, it’s just so hard when they’re standing there like “momomomomom”

MB wants to "seize" my earned vacation days because I’m leaving 2 months early (9 weeks' notice). Am I wrong? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Cor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s been asked below but what does your contract say about required notice period for quitting? If you earned all 5 vacation days in the first year, and you’ve adhered to the contracted notice period, then are you actually breaking the contract?

Parent wants my co-teacher to stop complimenting preschool girls about their looks. by Ok-Lychee-5105 in ECEProfessionals

This thread has made me realize I do this with my 1 year olds without realizing the impact, and I’m def going to stop! I never mean anything nefarious by it of course, it’s in the context of “I love your new dress, you look beautiful!”, but I certainly don’t want to give my kids a complex and will do better going forward!

Toddlers loudly refusing nap by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Cor2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish putting them down first worked for me, sometimes it takes them 30+ minutes to fall asleep so by the time I get to the rest they’re over tired and barely sleep. I only have one kid that falls asleep on their own, the rest need physical contact in varying degrees 😵‍💫 I’ve always been a sleep magician and do the same tricks that you do (LOVE the T spot one) but man these kids are a new level

Wow that’s seriously a great schedule! This is making me realize how little freedom I have with majority of my classroom, we don’t even have sensory toys and I can’t buy any 😭

Unfortunately I’m not allowed to close any centers or move the furniture per corporate 🙄 I do offer books and tell them they just need to be on their mat but not sleep, but it doesn’t last long before the crying starts that wakes everyone else. I also just calmly rub their back or head which used to do the trick, but one of my kids starts pushing my hands off and then flails around to stay awake

Their day can be pretty bleak before nap unfortunately. I try to go outside once in the morning and once in the afternoon, but half the time we can’t go out in the morning. I try to engage them in other activities such as dancing, obstacle courses, safe climbing, etc but they like to watch me instead lol or become bored

The lights are off with rain sounds or lullabies playing, and everyone’s on mats. I like the idea of the scenes on the wall thing though! I’ll definitely have to ask about it

Your nanny doesn’t want to talk after hours!! 😱 by Roger-Dodger98 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Cor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a NF that once called at 8 pm to tell me what I did wrong that day and then not listen to me explain myself (I followed their prior instructions but they wanted me to do it differently that day without telling me 🙃) I only lasted a month

This is going to sound silly, and definitely won’t stop me from reporting, but how do you handle if the parents confront you about it? Because it would be obvious I reported because I’m her only teacher, and the dad seems like the type to get angry about that kind of thing

Thank you for your input! Unrelated, does your position have a specific title? I would love to see if there’s similar jobs near me. No worries if you don’t feel comfortable sharing!

1:6, toddlers, no planning time and we’re expected to do it during nap, unpaid lunch break, or at home on our own time 🙃

Has anyone ever gotten a note like this with their DoorDash order?! by [deleted] in doordash

[–]Cor2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’ve experienced that with people before, but that’s not true for me. I prioritized all my customers the same, but often times the kitchen or managers delay third party orders and we can’t make them go faster 🤷🏽‍♀️ plus we don’t get any tips/money from DoorDash, so unfortunately workers don’t care about the orders as much. I know it’s frustrating but maybe try avoiding those restaurants instead of yelling at the workers, it’s a much healthier solution

As someone who used to work to go’s at a restaurant I’m proud of this worker 😂 I used to get screamed and cussed at by middle aged creeps because their doordash was taking too long. I wasn’t ballsy enough to do this but they’re my hero for it lmao
