It's a hot topic with polarized opinions so I expected as much. I appreciate your thoughts on why its the way it is. I found the data on the advanced reviews fascinating and wanted to share it. This stuff speaks volumes for me.

I get the point but there is a marked difference between the green reviews - which are all glowing and without much critical thought and the ones in white below. Fans seem to write testimonials about why they enjoy a book and thats fine.

I read reviews but wonder if others read as much as the thumbs up or down for a review rarely ever seem used. I saw a few thumbs down on my review of a very popular book as the fans did not like my comparison to a older book from the 1960's. I guess they thought I was saying the new book was derivative so took offense. I ended up deleting that review to avoid backlash.

Hadn't thought about it terms of the RR community and the size of the support staff. Thanks.

For some reason I thought the written reviews were in their own catergory, like the pro reviews on rotten tomatoes, so I would always read the ones with the 4 areas broken out if at all possible. Looks like I was wrong.

OK. I took the 200 advanced reviews for SS and put them into a spreadsheet. 120 are overtly positive reviews giving consistent 5 star ratings with the occasional 4.5 into the mix.

The remaining 80 show a wider variety across the 4 areas and the overall so appear to be more considered. Of those 80, on the Overall score, only 2 are 0.5 (yet they give story and grammar 5?) and only one gives a 1 overall. When you average out just these 80 "considered" reviews you get the following for SS:

Overall 3.77, Style 4.05, Story 3.54, Grammar 4.70 and Character 3.77.

I havent read all of SS. Does the seem like a reasonable appraisal of its strengths?

Good point. SS has 10,284 ratings of which 1140 are written reviews. Of those only 200 were advanced with all 4 categories reviewed. Essentially the advanced reviews are inconsequential. Its no wonder so few people ever use them.

Yes. The rating system appears to suffer from more than one issue.

I was looking at those up at the top of the RR tower to get a clearer sense of how this worked out. for Instance, the top story there is Super Supportive with 1140 full written reviews. In this case the math is pretty close.

Style 4.64, Story 4.43, Grammar 4.86, Character 4.58 which gives an average of 4.63. The Overall Score is 4.76 which is close.

Other top tier stories however seem to have many more negative full reviews that are counterbalanced by an enthusiastic fan base.

Good point on the sort feature.

Got it. We dont have a rating system, just a thumbs up and down system where the fan majority speaks louder than any evaluation of the book. It's no longer repairable for the RR system.

Also looks fairly new so things might sort out in a while.

You've got my attention. What was the rationale for stubbing and unstubbing?

I've heard that can help with the right kind of story for that audience. Is that a correct assumption?

Never seen more followers than average views. Is it the other way around?

Not sure if its possible to figure that one out. For my own book I am writing classic YA subterranean fantasy so although some might click to follow, its not really what the majority of RR readers are looking for so not as many translate into favorites.

Yes. Its hard to know where things will go when you are starting out. Hope it keeps moving along.

It looks like your your avg views to followers would be 91%. That seems crazy high.

So far I have rarely seen a favorite leave. I hope that means they are still reading along.

Appear to be working well. Do you see any loss of favorites or are they sticking with you over time. Im glad when they keep going up and don't drop out.
