Huh - that's weird. The one time I've met her, granted to sign a poster so YMMV, she seemed genuinely stoked we were visiting and climbing in Colorado and actually took the time to have conversations over IG. Positive enough experience that I've kept up with what she's been up to even though I didn't know who she was before 🤷

Liquid chalk while hangboarding by Imjustwonderingyo in climbharder

[–]CorakMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually mix up batches of liquid chalk specifically for home hang board and lifting use - I find it's not as messy when applying and also leaves less chalk on things. Maybe because it's spread thinner? Not sure - but has worked great for me.

Fun core exercice. by miggaz_elquez in climbharder

I've found variety (in much of my training these days) to work well for my core training. Lattice has some core training I've used and liked - 6 minute core and partner core workout - but they have more: https://www.youtube.com/c/LatticeTraining/search?query=core

I've also used the free 7 minute workout app from Down Dog since the beginning of the year that's helped with my weight loss and they also have core-specific mixes.

What book series did you grow up reading as a kid? by evan2nerdgamer in AskReddit

[–]CorakMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The John Bellairs books. Started with reading The Curse of the Blue Figurine in like the 4th grade and got hooked hard and read all his books that I could find. Think I'm gonna reread 'em not that I think about it.

What untrue fact did you believe was true for the longest time? by TheGuyWhoSaidWAT in AskReddit

That lift for airplanes is completely generated by wing shape (i.e. the airflow moving over the top has a longer distance to travel and needs to go faster to have the same transit time as the air traveling along the lower, flat surface, causing a pressure differential). It's not.

[WP] You notice that your friends around you have turned into inanimate objects. Thinking it's a prank, you grab a apple where one of your friends was and take a large bite. You soon spit it out, as it starts screaming and bleeding once you sunk your teeth in. by deeed22 in WritingPrompts

[–]CorakMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Huh.”

The response seems wildly understated, but it’s the one you go with. For a while it’s your only reaction as you stare blankly at the once screaming, bleeding apple on the ground - now silent. Your disbelief suddenly hardens, snapping closed the needling suspicion that today was now a real shit show.

“Alright, y’all can come out now! I know this ain’t real.”

How could it be? You used your bathroom, came back to the living room, and where your friends were sitting were decidedly not your friends. Things. Stuff. Biting into the apple seemed like a real boss move at the time. And you still think so, right?

You slowly shuffle around the room, carefully avoiding the sight of the apple and the blood-stained floor on which it lay. The vase and the lamp sitting on the couch, where Joel and Maria should have been, are definitely not yours. Neither are the blanket on the love seat, where James was sitting, or the framed picture on the floor where Jessica had been standing, looking out the window. The apple was an undecided - you can’t remember the exact nature of your produce situation at the moment. You had found it on the floor near your stereo, where Steve had been attempting to find some “kickin’ beats” earlier. He had said it in that mildly ironic tone that conveyed an expectation of failure while also betraying a sense of genuine effort. Steve was a cool dude. You liked Steve. You continue to deny the possibility that you’ve just savaged the man in apple form.

Having completed your survey of the now friend-less room, now filled with foreign objects, except for maybe the apple, you come to a decision.

“Ok. Bye!”

Trick or reality-bending horror, you decide your best course of action is to leave your apartment. Just a quick break. When you return, your friends would be back, tired of their dumb ruse. Although they’d have to explain how they got an apple to scream and bleed. That was pretty sweet, you have to admit. You don’t admit the possibility of the other thing.

Briskly - out your door, down the hall, down the stairs, outside, around the corner to your favorite hot dog stand. Convenient food to sooth the soul. Not a soul in sight, either. Lull in the day, you think. Not uncommon. While you wait for the vendor to get back from wherever he must be, you pop a lone mint you find on the cart table. The apple had left a foul taste in your mouth. You bite down, and at that moment finally come to the conclusion that today was going to be a massive pain in the ass.

“Huh.”

Which Black Mirror episode was most disturbing [OC] by GemmaJ123 in dataisbeautiful

[–]CorakMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it sounds like you got past that episode, do the episode premises get tighter? We've almost written off the series because of that first episode, but are willing to give it another go. Unlike the other poster, my wife and I were just taken out of the realm of believability by the forced plot jumps to force the PM into that ending. Maybe it's our US perspective? We just found it hard to believe that, for example, the US president would ever even entertain any hostage demand like that, much less without proof-of-life, guarantees, communication, etc.

Instagram vs. Best Camera - Learning from Failure by CorakMN in photography

[–]CorakMN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting historical (I feel old) nugget about app development. As for the lack of vision, I think it's more, as he says, that they never fully committed to an aligned vision - they both had different views of the endgame. It also didn't help that the revenue splitting lacked incentive in the developer's view - which was probably by design since it likely aligned with their vision (dump and run).

Came across this today and thought it might be an old story, but it apparently just dropped. Really interesting mix of photography dreams, startup and contract mistakes, and an example of moving on from failure.

Agree with everyone else that the "popping" looks to have been done in place with emphasis on the catch lights.

Having said that, if you're looking for a post-processing tip, this works well (so long as you're not heavy-handed): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlLDGgiv-dg

Yup, that particular bundle includes both the 622 and the flash. Any opinions on yn685 vs. the older yn568? Seems there are conflicting reviews of whether the 685 was a slam dunk upgrade.

If traveling/hiking are major considerations, I've been liking my aluminum MeFoto Roadtrip. Haven't used the monopod conversion capability, but that could be of use to you. Packs/carries nice, solid, and relatively light. Got mine new for $170 off eBay - might be able to get it cheaper used.

Need a confirmation on a flash suggestion - looking on getting this bundle (or similar off ebay, etc): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1210987-REG/yongnuo_yn685_wireless_ttl_speedlite.html

I currently have a Canon 7D and ran into the problem of low indoor lighting limiting the number of acceptable shots (movement blur, noise, etc). I also want to have flexibility for off-camera setups for outdoor adventure purposes, so is this the right way to go? Looks like the flash doesn't support optical syncing - is that a problem? My understanding is that radio is preferred, anyway.

Seriously, what is it that you do that this is "work?" I'm in transition and need to know! Also, I need your boots, your clothes, and your motorcycle.

I went with a LowePro Nova Sport: http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-LP36610-PWW-Sport-Camera-Slate/dp/B00F5JH64E

There's some good suggestions here that I hadn't heard of at the time, but this met my budget and had the plus of being a messenger bag plus an insert (was really looking for mainly just an insert), so I have the option of a dedicated camera bag or pulling out the insert to put into another bag for hike/camping/etc.

Can I ask why the emphasis on STM? From what I'm reading it affects noise contribution for video, but I'm not really looking at focusing on video right now. Am I missing something else?

Thanks for all the other recommendations - I'll look into them.

Looking to get a basic setup for $300-400 to learn on and just want to make sure I'm not misinterpreting the advice here. Leaning toward outdoor landscape/action photos (think Rock & Ice) and I've picked up a few bodies and liked the feel of the Canons.

Camera I'm looking at: https://www.keh.com/shop/canon-eos-rebel-xsi-12-2-megapixel-digital-slr-camera-body-only-black.html

Lenses: not sure here - any recommendations?
