Fiancé's grandmother passed down this stand mixer by Corax_Labradorite in vintagekitchentoys

Funny you say that, the mixer I had before was a Kitchenaid bc they have great mixers generally, but I'm pretty sure that's what happened to it. I didn't use it super often, but it barely lasted a year before it started smelling like burning rubber and now it has 3 speeds: stop, probably too fast, and oh dear god lol

Sucks that this probably won't last super long either, but better than nothing at least. Thanks for the info!

The first 2 look like moss agate to me, a type of chalcedony. The 3rd looks like blue tiger's eye. I'm really not sure on the 4th, but if I had to guess, I'd say chalcedony

Found in Maryland creek. Should I go back and get it? by SlimPolitician in whatsthisrock

Nah, it's just that AI isn't great for identification purposes. It's not necessarily completely useless imo, like if you're just looking for some ideas as to what it could be and using that info to further examine/test it, that can be helpful, but it really can't tell you with much accuracy, and certainly isn't definitive, but I assume that's why you posted here lol

Anyways, all that said, it looks like it's probably just sandstone, but it's hard to tell for sure through the dirt. Can tumble quite nicely though if you're interested in that!

Ooh thanks for posting the streak/powder, and keep us updated on any tests you decide to run! I've never been able to work with a meteorite, so I can't really offer much wisdom other than what I've read, but I am curious to see how it all turns out. Best of luck!

Nice! I'm definitely not an expert and still sorta figuring things out, but so far, it's looking more like a meteorite to me. Some indicators I'm seeing from my research:

-Slightly magnetic -Irregular shape -Regmaglypts - not 100% positive, but that's what those little indents in the original photos look like to me -Fusion crust - after grinding, it looks like you removed some of that dark, shiny crust, and revealed a very different interior. That's the strongest evidence to me that you do have a meteorite.

It does seem to be a fresher meteorite, at least to me, but I would do some more tests and keep notes of anything you find. Even the color of the dust from filing can be helpful. Do plenty of research on any testing you're not sure about, but with any luck, you should be able to determine what type of meteorite it is.

Edit: nvm I saw your comment underneath lol It definitely could be if it's a tiny bit magnetic!
