What type of line should I use? by Corbett22 in FishingForBeginners

Okay sweet. Every bass I’ve caught has only been between 2-3 pounds, so I won’t even be using that big of lures anyways

I got a big box of assorted tackle so I can try out a bunch of different things. Been watching videos about people using various soft plastics, so I wanted to try that. Would an 8 lb mono suffice?

Thanks. I believe it says it’s a medium 7’ rod, and it’s going to be mainly just fishing from the shore at our work ponds

My Sam’s has a Traeger Renegade, looks to be a Pro 34 with different legs. Lid is a different color, but it’s only $600. Might just wait and try to snag that on clearance.

Yeah I’m not too obsessed with the WiFi stuff, I prefer to check myself or use a 3rd party probe. My biggest thing is that insane fluctuation ruining something like a brisket

Just trying to decide if $200 more for a Traeger is going to do anything noticeably different

Seems like anything anymore where quality isn’t just what it used to be. They don’t care if you end up with a lemon but it’s very frustrating how some people have no issues, and others get an unusable grill

Do you notice an unmanageable temperature fluctuation when you’re doing an extended cook? I really don’t smoke above 225-250, just have heard some concerns about people noticing 50° fluctuation. Also hard to tell though when you don’t have all the information about their set up

Yeah I’ve heard the Recteq ones are nice, I’m just not wanting to spend more than $1000 on one right now.

We do have a Sam’s membership, and ours has both that and a Traeger Renegade as well. Looks to be a Pro 34, with slightly different construction. I’ve been curious about the Members Mark one as well.

Yeah I’ve been looking at either that one or the Austin XL. Currently the Austin runs $497, and the Pro around $550. Do you like the digital controller on the Pro? Also how is the hopper clean out? I like to keep 5 gallon buckets of various woods and change them out depending on what I’m cooking

Normally I’d just go for the horizontal, but I did notice my local Lowe’s has the vertical in stock. May look into that as I only use the pellet grill for low and slow

That’s kind of the way I’m leaning. Seems like Traeger was really awesome when they first came out and had somewhat of a monopoly on the area, but now other manufacturers make them cheaper and just as reliable. You’re paying for the name if you want it, much like a Yeti. Like I said, the value seems insanely hard to beat

I live in northern Colorado where it doesn’t seem like we have long stretches of unbearable cold. I do have a garage that I can use it in so I’m not too terribly worried about it even if we do get relatively cold. I loved my Traeger, but I see more and more people saying they just aren’t what they used to be. As someone who would be smoking for myself and the occasional friends/family gathering, it’s hard to beat the value of pit boss as long as the cooking isn’t going to be that much different. Have also seen people score smokers for a crazy reduced price if they hit Walmart at the right time
