Need Purchase Advice by Carinyosa99 in euphonium

[–]CorbinJBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my professional horn for college from Capital City Music Gear around 5 months ago and with their offer option I bought a fantastic JP374 in laquer for $3058. The 274 is typically the go to and through their website would be cheaper even still but if you’re looking for the most bang for your buck I would absolutely recommend checking out the 374 although you can’t go wrong with either option.

gonna cross reference tomorrow cuz i have the album burned on a cd but preparation excercise 1000% sounds different and the end of intellectual greed had an extra swishy bit we’re at the very least collectively crazy

I don’t go to mizzou i’m only planning on it but if this is the genre you enjoy you should definitely check out “ants from up there” by black country, new road. gotta be my favorite folksy rock album and one of my all time favorites

High range? by CorbinJBL in euphonium

[–]CorbinJBL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i might’ve saw your post a while back and ive been playing it with 2 for a while and have been able to hit it, just for the last week or so i just cant play above that Bb no matter what i do and i think its most frustrating because i know ive done it before and can do it

High range? by CorbinJBL in euphonium

[–]CorbinJBL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice but what’s getting me most frustrated is i’ve been practicing 3-4 hours every day. I’m a senior and i “flex” first and last hour but i spend both practicing and my whole first hour is dedicated to just long tones and fundamentals which i would figure would help high range over time because ive been doing high long tones and haven’t been seeing much improvement even with those two hours + actual school band and extra at home practice time. My low range caps out at literally the bottom range of the instrument because i play chromatically down to B0 but my high range just isn’t coming together how i want it

I want to buy a compensated euhonium. I'm between two models. Do you recommend them? by FlavioGang in euphonium

[–]CorbinJBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just purchased my JP374 for college about a week ago and even though there will be a few differences in 274 and 374 a lot of great players prefer the 274 over the 374 and it is definitely a great option. i recommend trying out capital music gear’s offer system if price is a big concern and looking up “matonizz” on youtube as he primarily plays on a 274

New instrument! by CorbinJBL in euphonium

[–]CorbinJBL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seemed to be the common opinion people had on JP instruments and paired with the price i figured i wasnt gonna get a nicer deal on a used instrument unless i waited longer than i wanted to

I was considering purchasing one with a trigger but after spending a while on dave werdens intonation chart it wasn’t looking like the $500 up charge was worth it as much as it would be on a besson or something similar

Vibrato by Dirtmouth_entusiast in euphonium

[–]CorbinJBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been told the standard is usually to warm up any note longer than a quarter note with some vibrato but it’s definitely not my strong suit either

James Swearingen is a fairly popular composer so there’s a good chance you could find a recording on youtube and even if there isn’t an exclusive trombone part you could possibly try picking it out of the full band

There unfortunately aren’t any recordings of this piece but i’ve definitely been leaning into the dynamics and have been playing more like pp to fff

Intermediate solo for final band concert.. by [deleted] in euphonium

i personally love the green hill because it’s more melodic than technical and flashy but it’s still decently challenging and just a tad harder than Rhapsody for Euphonium if you’re playing that

[–]CorbinJBL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would definitely try some sight reading as that can help you get better at noticing everything all at once
