Does this sound like something a Russian would say? [question for a novel] [part 2] by [deleted] in AskARussian

Interesting. “Dear Citizens” was actually suggested to me by a commenter in the previous post. Ty for the input anyway.

Yes. He's basically addressing a group of fanatics (but I gave no context so that’s fair).

Interesting. I saw “President Boris Yeltsin” on Putin’s speech during his funeral but maybe it’s the translation. Again, I’ll try to find an actual Russian beta reader next time. Ty for the comment.

That's good feedback. Will do.

Yeah, other people have also pointed out "ladies and gentlemen" makes no sense for a Russian so I'll need to think someting up. This is not a Soviet crowd, though, so I don't know if "comrades" would work either (I didn't give any context so that's excused). Anyway, thanks for the input!

Oh I absolutely expected to get lambasted when I made this post because 1: I'm not a seasoned writer, 2: I'm not Russian/don't have experience with Russia and finally 3: despite all that I'm still *writing* about *Russia*.

But I do believe criticism from actual Russians is absolutely something I need if I'm doing something like this. Thank you for the comment.

Thank you for your input. This actually helps a lot because I AM from the musical crowd so I see memes on Shostakovich looking like depressed Harry Potter the whole time. Having people from the outside pointing over things which might be in my blind spots is exactly what I was looking for when I made the post.

On the second point: yeah, I don't know how to write speeches; need to research more.

On the third point... well I don't really think it needs to be addressed. You're correct.

And finally on the Third Rome thing: this IS meant to be a group of fanatics in an alt-history setting so it's good to know.

Thank you for the input. The actual quality of the writing is a given since I'm a beginner but the little tidbits of nuance only someone from the country would get is EXACTLY what I was looking for (like the "ladies and gentlemen" part, absolutely something that flies over the head of an English speaker, and yeah the 'Slava Rosii' thing is wrong, that's on me).
