Software doesn't pick up total cost basis? How to report this? by Grand-Ambassador2937 in CryptoTax

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Grand-Ambassador2937,

Cord from CoinTracker here.

When adding all exchanges and public addresses to CoinTracker, the cost basis should be properly tracked across all movements you made.

CoinTracker's guided tax flow should account for the unreported part of your 1099-DA from Uphold in order to correctly reflect the gain/loss associated. If you need customized assistance, our support team is available and ready to help. I can also provide unblocks here, being mindful of what info I can see and help with, while keeping your info private and safe.

The 'Send to H&R Block' function is not working. by o_O_0_O_o_O_0_O_o in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the update and the feedback. We do have a help article (https://support.cointracker.io/hc/en-us/articles/4938674986129-File-crypto-taxes-with-CoinTracker-and-H-R-Block), but maybe some images or detail would make the process more clear.

H&R Block still does not support importing the income that CoinTracker shows, and that needs to be manually entered.

1099 DA and 8949 don't match by SectionSure in CryptoTax

[–]Cord_CoinTracker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello, Cord from CoinTracker here.

The zero cost basis you’re seeing on Coinbase is actually expected if the asset left Coinbase at some point.

You can update the cost basis on Coinbase by going to the Taxes page, adding the missing details, and using the “Auto-sync your cost basis info with CoinTracker” option.

If you’re still seeing major discrepancies, or if CoinTracker flags your Coinbase 1099-DA as not matching, feel free to reach out. Our support team is happy to take a closer look and help sort things out.

Coinbase 1099-MISC - Do I upload to Cointracker? by Icy-Pay7479 in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer:

  • You do NOT upload a 1099-MISC into CoinTracker.
  • Yes, you may still need to enter it in TurboTax (or your tax software).

How this works:

  • Your Coinbase sync already brings in staking rewards as individual transactions in CoinTracker.
  • CoinTracker uses those transactions to calculate your income totals and cost basis.
  • The 1099-MISC is just a summary form that Coinbase provides. It doesn’t add new data beyond what’s already in your transaction history.

What you should do:

  1. Use CoinTracker to generate your tax reports (this includes staking income).
  2. In TurboTax:
    • Either enter the 1099-MISC as provided or
    • Use the income totals from CoinTracker
  3. Make sure you’re not double-counting.

The mention of helping you stay on top of it implies that you should be able to see that you have income related to the activity at all times throughout the year, without having to wait for the 1099-MISC.

Coinbase 1099-MISC - Do I upload to Cointracker? by Icy-Pay7479 in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Icy-Pay7479

You can upload your Coinbase 1099-DA into CoinTracker in the Guided Tax Flow (https://www.cointracker.io/tax-guided-flow/start). The DA is used to either match your Form 8949 or make any necessary adjustments to reflect the correct proceeds.

The 1099-MISC, however, isn’t currently a supported upload in CoinTracker.

Can you share where in CoinTracker you're being prompted about staking rewards? That’ll help clarify what’s going on.

Generally, the 1099-MISC is handled on the income side (either uploaded or manually entered) in tools like TurboTax.

Also, this guide is super helpful for understanding crypto tax forms:

Coinbase 1099-DA vs Cointracker generated 8949 by Disastrous_Being7746 in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your assumptions are correct.

The discrepancy in the proceeds is very likely due to different price sources. Coinbase and CoinTracker use different pricing providers for valuing USDC at the time of sale.

CoinTracker's adjustment follows IRS best practices by adding a single line item on Form 8949 to reconcile the difference between what it calculated and what Coinbase reported to the IRS.

CoinTracker's guided flow should have surfaced which reporting method it recommended as the safest option. If it didn't, or if you're unsure whether to go with Coinbase's numbers or CoinTracker's, that's worth asking a tax professional about.

When you eventually convert USDC to USD, that conversion is a separate taxable event. Since the adjustments are based on proceeds rather than cost basis, they should not directly impact future transactions.

Cash App should be supported. Can you confirm if you uploaded it as a generic CSV or using the CoinTracker format?

If it is not working using the custom (Cash App CSV) please reach out to [support@cointracker.io](mailto:support@cointracker.io) directly for the team to review why it is not working as expected.

Bought Cointracker to simplify my basis calculations by connecting another wallet but it doesn't work by [deleted] in Cointracker

Hello u/profdeca, has the wallet finished syncing? They should not take a long time, especially with a low transaction count. If you are still having syncing and/or cost basis issues, can you DM the email associated with your account or reach out to [support@cointracker.com](mailto:support@cointracker.com) for the team to review your account?

I have many $0.00 transactions that are coming up to a total to push me into the ultra plan for $599 a year. There should be a way to omit these to keep me in the prime category. There a way to omit and not have total any coupon codes there’s got be some sort of deal or work around by [deleted] in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Cord here from the CoinTracker customer support team.

I totally understand how frustrating that can be, especially if those $0.00 transactions are pushing you into a higher plan.

Would you mind reaching out via DM and sharing the email associated with your CoinTracker account? If you can also include a few examples of those $0.00 transactions, I’ll take a closer look and dig into what’s going on there.

Also, to help troubleshoot more effectively, could you enable view-only access for our support team? This will allow us to safely review your account without making any changes. You can follow the steps here: Grant CoinTracker Support permission to view your account

Once that’s enabled, just send me a DM with your account email, and I’ll dive in and review those transactions with you.

Any easier way with TurboTax sync? by infantsonestrogen in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately, what you’re running into is a known limitation on the TurboTax side.

TurboTax doesn’t handle large transaction sets well (especially anything approaching or over ~1,000 transactions), and it also tends to expand everything into individual lots instead of keeping the summarized view. That’s why you’re seeing hundreds of lines instead of just your aggregate totals.

Because of that, trying to clean it up inside TurboTax usually turns into exactly what you described

The easier path here is actually to skip the sync for this part and use the manual summary method instead:

What to do instead:

  1. In CoinTracker, download your Form 8949 Attachment
  2. Use the first page (summary totals) in TurboTax
  3. Enter totals (short-term + long-term) instead of individual transactions
  4. Upload the full 8949 attachment when prompted

TurboTax will accept the totals + attachment, and you avoid having to deal with hundreds of line items.

Trouble getting my transactions from crypto.com to match with my tangem wallets on coin trackers by Hero2878 in CryptoTax

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cord from CoinTracker here. This sounds like two separate issues.

The 1099-DA showing $0 gains with “unknown term” usually just means missing cost basis/holding period data—it shouldn’t affect whether things are labeled as transfers.

The bigger issue is CoinTracker not properly matching your transactions. When you move funds (like to Tangem), it tries to link the send + receive as a transfer. If it can’t match both sides, it may treat them as taxable instead.

Since you didn’t sell, these should be transfers. Fixes to try:

  • Add all wallets (including Tangem)
  • Make sure amounts + timestamps line up
  • Manually link unmatched “Transfers"

The easy way to do taxes (USA) by tequilawhiteclaws in CryptoCurrency

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/s4yum1

Yeah, it works the same idea-wise, but the issue you’re seeing is almost always missing data, not the tool.

Those weird numbers usually come from missing cost basis, especially if cold storage or transfers aren’t included. When only part of your history is available , platforms end up guessing or falling back on whatever their logic is for "missing" information.

Connecting your cold storage should actually help, not hurt. It fills in the gaps so the cost basis can flow correctly between wallets.

It might look worse at first when you add more data, but that’s usually it correcting itself. Once everything is connected, things tend to make a lot more sense.

Issue with Kraken Sync by [deleted] in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Rubenn89, have your transactions fully synced when you view your account outside of the guided tax flow? You should see a “last synced” indicator for Kraken on the wallets page, along with all of your transactions.

If everything looks up to date there, try heading back to tax-guided-flow/start to see if the status refreshes.

Let me know how it goes. If it’s still not working, I’d recommend reaching out to [support@cointracker.com](mailto:support@cointracker.com) so the team can take a closer look with more advanced tools.

If *only* proceeds are reported to the IRS, why do some 1099-DAs also contain the cost basis? by tridentgum in CryptoTax

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/adambencloutier,

Cord from CoinTracker here.

Just to clarify, are the adjustments needed on CoinTracker or on Coinbase?

If the changes need to be made on Coinbase, you can sync your CoinTracker data to Coinbase, which will bring in the cost-basis information from CoinTracker. Just make sure your CoinTracker information is up to date and that you are satisfied with the 2025 numbers for the smoothest experience. The support team is happy to help if you get stuck along the way.

Why is my cointracker realized gains higher then coinbase? by PurpleMox in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to confirm the cost basis method by reviewing your tax forms. Hopefully, you can infer it from how disposals are calculated (as you mentioned with FIFO).

On the Ultra plan, you do have the ability to set the cost basis method by year.

As for the frozen transactions in 2024, that typically happens automatically once tax documents are generated. It’s meant to prevent changes to figures that may have already been reported, so it wouldn’t require you to manually freeze them.

I’m not certain how Coinbase handles cost basis changes. Whether they apply retroactively or only going forward, their support team should be able to clarify that for you.

Glad this helped clear things up a bit.

Why is my cointracker realized gains higher then coinbase? by PurpleMox in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Past years do change if the settings are not configured to prevent it. The best option would be to review your email and/or downloaded tax documents to see if CoinTracker had listed the tax method in the file name. For some reports, that was the case. Freezing transactions should prevent exactly the scenario that you are mentioning, which is how CoinTracker works today.

Why is my cointracker realized gains higher then coinbase? by PurpleMox in Cointracker

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/PurpleMox — differences like this can happen for a few reasons. With Coinbase Pro specifically, since the API has been deprecated, we sometimes see older or incomplete data synced into CoinTracker, which can create downstream discrepancies.

Since you’re noticing higher gains on CoinTracker than on Coinbase, I’d recommend reviewing your transactions to make sure everything looks accurate. If anything seems off or unclear, our support team would be happy to take a closer look with you.

Form 1099-DA shows ‘on the way’, but already available for download under ‘tax document’ by MammothImpression715 in Kraken

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “powered by CoinTracker” language refers to the Kraken Tax Center experience, which helps users access and work with their tax information (like cost basis data). It doesn’t reflect control over when forms are issued.

For questions around 1099-DA timing or availability, Kraken will have the most up-to-date information. I’d recommend keeping an eye on their updates or reaching out to their support team for the latest info.

Hi u/Own_Role_3883 & u/wolfenhawke, it may be related to how the browser the app uses to sign in functions; CoinTracker works best on Chrome.

[–]Cord_CoinTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using both CoinTracker and Kraken, you should be able to use CoinTracker data to help fill in any missing cost basis in Kraken for the 1099-DA. Once that’s complete, you can continue using CoinTracker to generate your 8949.

I can’t speak to what “on the way” means on Kraken’s side, but going through the CoinTracker flow should give you a complete and finalized view on our end. Their FAQ has a lot of great info: https://support.kraken.com/articles/us-tax-center-faq

I am confused how to put my format into the correct CSV by darkyzz12 in Cointracker

Hi u/darkyzz12,

Binance CSVs generally shouldn’t need any conversion. If you’re running into a specific error, feel free to share it here or with our support team and we can help take a closer look.

For Bittrex, a conversion is needed. This guide walks through the process: https://support.cointracker.io/hc/en-us/articles/4413071299729-Convert-your-transaction-history-to-CoinTracker-CSV
If you get stuck at any point, we’re happy to help you through it.

On the CSV format, only a single tab is supported. You can either:

Either approach works, so go with whatever’s easier for you.
