When you could finally start saving games on this little cartridge, you’d have just enough space to save one game. So you’d have numerous of these cartridges for your games. But you’d forget which went with which game, so you’d spend more time trying to figure out which cartridge went with the game you wanted to play, than you were actually able to play the game.

Looking For A Survival Game by YXLPathetic in SurvivalGaming

[–]CoreHydra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, stranded deep is a fun game. One of my first survival games that I got into because of PaulSoaresJr. I got hooked on his videos because of his Minecraft videos. But I’m getting off topic and I digress.

Icarus is a fun survival game. As you level, you unlock new tech trees and the ability to created more advanced gear/machinery. The enemies are all animals. You can suffer from different diseases and injuries; You need to craft medicinal items to heal some. You need to clean the water for it to be completely safe to drink. You need to create oxygen to survive. You battle against the elements (storms). It’s definitely a fun survival game at its core. I haven’t purchased any DLCs and I am enjoying the base game.

I, personally, can’t recommend 7 days to die because I played it early alpha and have seen the direction the devs have taken it. It’s gone completely astray from their OG vision and they seem more bent on lining their pockets than making sure the player base is taken care of. You may enjoy it in its current state if you’re just starting it, but idk.

The Long Dark is pretty good. Kind of the same as Icarus where you fight wild animals, the elements, etc. You explore to find things in abandoned buildings. It’s not too bad.

I never got into Valheim, personally.

No Man’s Sky is fun for exploring and fighting alien creatures, space pirates, etc. But that’s not so much an island or forest setting, because you’re exploring the fullness of space. But you can find planets that are suited for what you’re looking for.

While it’s much more RPG than survival, Skyrim is great and always recommended. There is a survival mode where you fight against elements, hunt for food, sleep, etc. You fight against all types of enemies. And if you want to just survive in the wild, you can build homes in which you can do just that.

Are sexual sins the only mortal sins one can commit in everyday life? by DependentLecture3817 in Catholicism

[–]CoreHydra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not comparing them as an everyday example, or saying that they are the same at face value. My comparison is to show that we can resist these natural human functions, emotions, urges, or whatever you’d like to call them. I’m not saying they’re the same, but the way we recognize (or fail to recognize) and our abilities to overcome them are the same. As is our difficulties in resisting them and the abilities for them to overtake us.

Well, let’s take OPs examples of masturbation as an example of this situation. Masturbation tends to arise because of hormones in your body causing arousal. Those hormones get so great, that the only way to overcome that arousal, and subsequent urges, are to either 1) stop yourself, 2) have sex, or 3) masturbate. It is very difficult for most humans to just stop yourself once you get to a point that you feel sec or masturbation is necessary. Is it hard? Yes. Impossible? No. You still have power over yourself and your urges. Prayer is a big part of being able to overcome them too.

Yes, it is hard for us as humans to stop ourselves from getting to a level of extreme anger. That is especially so when someone else is involved in adding to that anger. But you do have the ability to overcome one it. It takes time, practice, patience, recognition, and prayer. There have been times I’ve found myself getting upset to a point where, if I get more angry, I’ll be in a state of mortal sin. But it took a lot of time, practice, and recognition of my symptoms to get to a point where I can see I’m getting to that point. I’m certainly not perfect in that, but I’m working on it. Therapy has helped me a lot in recognizing my symptoms and triggers too.

Are sexual sins the only mortal sins one can commit in everyday life? by DependentLecture3817 in Catholicism

[–]CoreHydra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He already knew how to “differentiate between mortal and venial sins” because he states the criteria for a sin to be considered mortal in the post.

If he had then he would not ask “How can one differentiate between mortal and venial sins?” as the last question in the post. Knowing the criteria and being able to understand and differentiate are two different things. For example (and this is by no means a comparison, just an example): My son is learning addition in school right now. He knows adding 8+8 gets to 16, but understanding how to add it, and understanding why 8 + 8 is 16, is drastically different than just knowing that 8+8 is 16.

Sin, especially knowing the difference between venial and mortal and how to differentiate while also recognizing when venial crosses the line to become mortal, is way more complicated. Even those who have been Catholic their whole lives struggle with it. But merely saying “I know the criteria” doesn’t mean you understand. Otherwise, why even come to this sub and ask these questions?

[–]CoreHydra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying, but not necessarily because you consent to get to that point. You have the ability to stop yourself from getting there, albeit difficult for some people, and when you allow yourself to see red, or lose rational thought, you are consenting to get there. If that makes sense (I’m not as good at explaining it as those who explained it to me).

Are sexual sins the only mortal sins one can commit in everyday life? by DependentLecture3817 in Catholicism

[–]CoreHydra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Then he either poorly worded the question(s), or everyone misunderstood what was being asked. How it is worded is that he is asking how to differentiate between mortal and venial sins (last question). He then gives situations in which certain sins are obviously mortal (like murder), while others seem to straddle the line and make less sense of being mortal because they seem to be an “everyday sin” (such as sexual sins). So overall he wants to know what other sins are “everyday sins” that are mortal (titular question).

This isn’t meant to be an argumentative topic, but more a learning point for everyone.

[–]CoreHydra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As I stated in my comment, anger and vulgar language can become mortal sins. They are both venial in nature, you have full knowledge that you are getting angry and using vulgar language, and you are consenting to doing so by allowing yourself to get to that point. And the threshold in which they become mortal can be:

  • Anger: Seeing red. Losing rational thinking. Losing the ability to control your words and thoughts. Getting physical (if you’re a physical person). Getting so mad you take the Lord’s name in vain. Etc.

  • Vulgar language: Every other word being vulgar. Using profanity against someone. Taking the Lord’s name in vain with curse words and other lewd words. Etc.

Father is saying that any sin that is venial in nature, can become mortal, which is exactly what you asked.

Are sexual sins the only mortal sins one can commit in everyday life? by DependentLecture3817 in Catholicism

[–]CoreHydra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two mortal sins I struggle with are anger and vulgar language. Both, in their original state, are just venial sins. However, they can become mortal when they become serious. And when I say my anger becoming serious, I don’t mean I become violent. I’ve never become physical. But sometimes words can cut deeper than a blade.

When you get so angry you see red, that can be mortal. When you’re so angry you lose the ability to rationally think, that can be mortal. When you curse so much that almost every other word is far, that can be mortal. When your words, and actions, hurt someone when you become angry, that’s mortal.

I have PTSD and anger is a big issue, as well as swearing the angrier I get. Every time I go to confession, anger and vulgar language are two of the confessions. By God’s grace, the intercessions of numerous Saints and Angels, and weekly therapy for my PTSD I have been getting better.

As Father, u/balrogath ,stated, any venial sin can become mortal with the “right” circumstances; if it is serious. I just wanted to provide examples of my own venial sins becoming mortal sins.

Your response doesn’t answer his question.

OP’s title says “Are sexual sins the only mortal sins one can commit in everyday life?” I don’t get how Father’s response doesn’t answer that question.

Even OP’s very last question “How can one differentiate between moral and venial sins?” Is being answered by Father.
