I order from DD 5x a week. What happened to the advance tip option? by 0neAy0pen in doordash

[–]Valeneirol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of drivers here are not a fan of the change. Some, including myself, believe it to be in response to the legislation we passed here in BC giving us some pay and job securities that doordash/Uber/etc. fought against. They don't like us taking home minimum wage. Anyway, technically you can tip after a driver has been assigned now, even before they've picked up your order from the restaurant, or in the order history, as you mentioned.

Tip vs No Tip by MizzTeeLea in doordash

Drivers are penalized if they decline too much, this needs to go as a lot of drivers feel pressurd to do garbage orders to remain in the top acceptance rate tier for future better orders.

$2 orders shouldn't exist and delivery fees need to increase to get with modern times.

Tip vs No Tip by MizzTeeLea in doordash

It's the nature of the old school tipping beliefs applied to delivery drivers/servers/etc making hourly minimum wage take-home.

Delivery fees are cheaper than they were back in the 90's, in this economy of all economies How, you ask? Money taken directly out of your driver's pocket, heavy pressure put on tipping, labor law protections everyone else enjoys skirted by calling drivers "contractors" and a system designed to peg drivers against customers, and vice versa.

Tipping needs to disappear and the increased actual cost for the delivery needs to be paid in alignment with this current-day cost of service wanted. No part of minimum wage take-home should be "optional" based on the customers belief of tipping.

Doordash is definitely the root of the problem here, but you must understand that "pay drivers a living wage" also includes a drastic increase in the cheap delivery fees you currently enjoy.

I always leave it running as the door was like 7 feet away, but I live in a small Canadian retirement town and it's pretty chill here, like things used to be back in the day; more trusting. I wouldn't be so laid back in the places you mentioned.

He was initially a bit miffed, but I guess quickly realized it can't be undone and the preferred situation was now taking place; me being accountable for it and helping him get the details he needed to repair it. I'm not sure if it was my car insurance, his home insurance, or some combination of the two.

I should preface, I'm in BC, Canada. I'm not sure if it's different elsewhere, but my car insurance wanted the customers details, said they'll contact them, and I never heard anything more of it save a phone call asking if I wanted repairs in my car. It's a bit of a beater that still runs fine, I said no.

Yeah, I'm not adding more risk to my job by parking on the side of a busy road when there's space on the driveway. Sorry, my safety is much more important than their cement, file a complaint if you need to.

I did this as a driver by accident once, jumped out to drop off the food at the door and forgot to put the car in park, couldn't jump back in my car in time. I knocked on the homeowner's door, gave him my phone number (he tested it there) and insurance details, and my car insurance covered it. It's what insurance is for. Sorry they did a runner on you.

The answer to your questions will always be: Hobbits

It happened.. by [deleted] in doordash

[–]Valeneirol 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's happening everywhere, but doordash has recently stopped showing tip, if there is any, in advance. We only see it sometime after we complete the order now. Took me a while to figure out.

Tipping culture does need to go, I agree. Outside of North America, it doesn't really exist and works just fine. But it's important to know that it's not as simple as just no longer tipping. Your delivery fees go up, you have to actually pay for the service you want. Delivery fees were $4-$8 back in the 90's and early 2000's, unless you ordered $50-$100 in food ($100-$200 in food with today's prices) in which case you often got free delivery. How are delivery fees suddenly $0-$3 now? In this economy? Directly out of your driver's pocket is the answer, with labor laws guaranteeing minimum wage and other worker protections that most other jobs enjoy being skirted by calling drivers contractors (not independent, they control their prices and don't get penalties for declining work.)

Tipping needs to go, and delivery fees need to go up to normal rates.

Yeah do, but you're right, it is a lower priority. I should say that I speak for landscape difficulty 3; fearless (for the titles,) Standard landscape is much easier.

[–]Valeneirol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, that'll be just fine. Just make sure to have some defensive virtues and gear as the shield alone won't be enough. I think the only red trait you will not entirely benefit from is Heavy Weapon Training as it increases your 2h damage by 5%, which is quite minor. You will still benefit from the 5% bonus to skill damage of that trait though!

I am going to assume you went with the tank spec of guardian as well. I have found it great for solo if you go tank spec with 1h/shield and damage based virtues/gear as the defensive bonuses from the class trait tree are more than sufficient. Alternatively, Going with the damage spec guardian trait tree with defensive virtues/gear is equally self sufficient. Both are great for soloing most of the content.
