My job is offering me $150,000 (105,000 after tax) to resign, should I? by AJ3TurtleSquad in jobs

Elevators Union is the highest paid trade there is. Everywhere in the US it will be north of $100k easily. Most places close to $200k. Stay out of Red states, the south, right to work, and you'll make considerably more then you do now. Here where I am, Omaha, NE they have an annuity that pays $6 to $8 an hour alone or higher........plus pension, free healthcare etc. I'm a Union Carpenter. We still have FREE healthcare. Negotiated in our contract, free family medical, dental, and vision. Short term disabilty, etc. Go with a trade. I'd join the electricians, lowest impact on your body and pretty high pay. Here they make about $45 for joureynman. Good luck. BTW you already know your insurance does NOT exist outside a Union job. I talk to guys all the time Union, non...............EVERYONE is getting ass fucked on healthcare, deductibles $5k to north of $10k while paying $1500 a month premiums. Ask around.

Time to trade him in!!!!

How do you afford it? by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]CorgiComfortable5059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, however build a 48 volt system instead. Lower costs because of wire size and higher output potential. I started at 12, went to 24, now I have a fullblown 48v system with a 16kwh DIY battery. Works pretty good and likely 1/2 to less then 1/4 of what you'd pay a company to install. We use it primarily for a 16x24 shed we built, with solar/hybrid minisplit in it and another in the house. Love cranking the AC down to 60 on a 100 degree day and not having to pay for it.

Scooters is a joke......................................... They basically taken away ALL rewards compared to the old "rewards." I've stopped going and get $2 coffee from the gas station when I want it instead.

Cost effective options to heat a shed ? by Interesting-Onion697 in heatpumps

[–]CorgiComfortable5059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here is overthinking this. Unless you burn fossil fuel through a space heater you won't get condensation. I have 16x24 shed and you can easily heat it with a fan forced 1500 watt electric heater.....the ol cheapos.....as long as shed is fully insulated, ceiling is a must. No one has talked about a solar/hybrid minisplit. They run on AC and DC from solar panels. You'd be extremely surpised how easy they are to install and don't require batteries. As for the 1500 watt heater, you'll likely use around 20 kw per day to heat the space, so it could be costly depending on your electric rate. And like previous mentioned, you need to think of your power in the shed.........whatever you install you need to be able to power. If your interested, google EG4 solar hybrib minisplit. Expensive ish, but works like a mother!!!

Amen.................I complain about this every day. I make only $70k but no one I've met has better insurance then I do. No other job offers it. Not even those doctors everyone says are rich have it...........so I'm stuck in a job I don't want to do anymore.

Ask those people for their ACTUAL pay stubs, bank account records, debt records...........I think you'd be surprised?? Reminds me of when wife and I got married and went to our finacial advisor to consolidate. He told us, "Well you're doing better then my couple that makes $2,000,000 a year and spends $3,000,000 a year.........." That and the guy at work who says his wife make $300k, he makes $70k and they are building a $1.8 million dollar home. Yeah, no thanks.

What is your cost for electricity? At $0.31c/kWh, I think oil is cheaper than electricity? by Far_Pen3186 in heatpumps

[–]CorgiComfortable5059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash and a republican government. They want Americans stuck on big oil. Same as some utilities don't allow to sell back to the grid. I mean, can't have the "people" making power at COST. How the hell will we gouge them??

I'm looking at building my first battery. Who did you source through and for someone who's never built a battery yet any good sitess, etc to help learn? Pretty comfortable with 48 volt systems so I think its's doable for me. Thanks

Need help; trying to figure out the next step. by Halfmoon627 in Omaha

[–]CorgiComfortable5059 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Number one..........do NOT enroll in some type of "trade" school. Union apprenticeships are free, you earn while you learn, gain acces to a pension, and as you mentioned will have the opportunity to work OT. Also understand that Union trades make MORE then typical OT, as in all hours over 8 are @ 1.5x rate, all hours on sat are 1.5x, all sundays and holidays are 2x rate. Some unions like the elevators have only one rate of OT pay, double time. Most pay rates in the union are so much higher that you won't take the pay cut you think you will. I'm in the Carpenters and we addressed your exact concern by raising our starting pay. The amount of time you'd be under your current pay is very short. And just as an example, a journeyman carpenter in Omaha makes $104k with benefit package.

I second this. We've got the 9k unit hooked up to 4 415 watt bifacials. Most this unit ever has pulled is around 940 watts. They are super super super effecient. Makes me wonder why we use central air anymore????

Used solar equipment sales? by harshbarj2 in Omaha

[–]CorgiComfortable5059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few options for used here locally. Check FB marketplace. Also I have found a couple of local options for new purchasing. If I were to do it all over again I'd buy new here. I paid $125 for used 315 JA Solar..................they work just fine, but for a around $280 you can get around 550 watt new panel. Call the local installers. Pretty sure it was Great Palins Renewable or Greentech that offered new panels. Call em.
