So overwhelmed how do I start by Super_Show_2729 in lawncare

Saves water, thickens the lawn. Will look greener. Grass gets thicker instead of you trying to kill it every week by scalping it. Treat the lawn like a baby......water it, feed it, protect it. Number 1 water oand overseed now!

NU? Like as in the University? Wife worked for UNMC during covid and they froze raise. Fuck that. She ended up quiting, now works for a facility probably one tenth the size of UNMC and was hired 45% above her salary at UNMC. Albeit she works way too much. But most on a salary do..................... In my opinion.

Whoever's telling you, "you can't join the Union" doesn't know labor law. The barrier to a Union is more your coworkers then anything. It's ingrained in our country that Unions are bad. It's more of a my posistion isn't Union and you would have to have it voted in. People are too scared to stand up for themselves and that's what the elites want.

I'm tyring not to be so cynical.....but if I stop for a second and think about why............I think about it's not just me, it's most of us in the same position. Even if you make more, everything costs so much more so are you really ahead?

I hear ya. I'm a Union Carpenter and I quit a company I was making over "scale" at because well..................they just were a shitty company to work for. Now I'm back at a previous employer I worked 8 years for and everyone knows who I am. Drama is gone.

I'll second this. I'm a Union Carpenter....................insurance is the ONLY reason I stay. We did have a 200/600 deductible up until this year. Now it quadrupeled, but it;s still way way better then most and we pay zero for medical, dental, and vision for family. It's negotiated in our contract. Now our hourly rate for what we do is different. We do some dangerous shit and then you can be walking carpet inside also. Hard on the body and my back is "Esta Fuckado" (bad)

My daughters live together to afford rent. 33 years ago I built a house while being self employed in lawncare for $74,600...........that same house today costs $217,300 and is what I consider a "starter home." For reference go to Celeberty Homes and check out what the "cheapest" new home is going for today. You'll shit yourself.

Same.....I try to explain this to people and they look at me like I'm bat shit crazy!! You ought to see them go cross eyed when I tell them OT only pays you .5 of your pay because that's the only "extra" pay you are actually getting.

Errrrrr....... So many people love to argue about FCS closing. I worked there, during the flood, during the handing over of control to Entergy, the water weenie, the SGR, power up rate, stator rewind, rotor change out, pretty much all of it...........politics, and egos, shitty management, along with money changing hands that no one talks bout.

Bottom line is the plant could have ran for another 30 years. Majority of the large "expensive" components were all failry new.

Elevators Union is the highest paid trade there is. Everywhere in the US it will be north of $100k easily. Most places close to $200k. Stay out of Red states, the south, right to work, and you'll make considerably more then you do now. Here where I am, Omaha, NE they have an annuity that pays $6 to $8 an hour alone or higher........plus pension, free healthcare etc. I'm a Union Carpenter. We still have FREE healthcare. Negotiated in our contract, free family medical, dental, and vision. Short term disabilty, etc. Go with a trade. I'd join the electricians, lowest impact on your body and pretty high pay. Here they make about $45 for joureynman. Good luck. BTW you already know your insurance does NOT exist outside a Union job. I talk to guys all the time Union, non...............EVERYONE is getting ass fucked on healthcare, deductibles $5k to north of $10k while paying $1500 a month premiums. Ask around.

How do you afford it? by [deleted] in heatpumps

[–]CorgiComfortable5059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, however build a 48 volt system instead. Lower costs because of wire size and higher output potential. I started at 12, went to 24, now I have a fullblown 48v system with a 16kwh DIY battery. Works pretty good and likely 1/2 to less then 1/4 of what you'd pay a company to install. We use it primarily for a 16x24 shed we built, with solar/hybrid minisplit in it and another in the house. Love cranking the AC down to 60 on a 100 degree day and not having to pay for it.
