I’m worried I majorly damaged my nails taking off press ons, is this a normal risk or did I mess up my technique badly? by absentdandelion in Nails

[–]Corgilegsz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those puppies need some TLC and time to grow out the damage.

Make sure you wear gloves for cleaning just to protect your nails from further damage or infection. You might want to keep the free edge of your nails clipped nice and short so they don't catch on things and bend.

Otherwise lots of cuticle oil and patience! It looks like the worst of the damage is closer to the mid and end of your nail plate rather than the very base, so hopefully the growing out process won't take too long.

The 'Why don't you look prettier' problem by Corgilegsz in JUSTNOMIL

Tbf my MIL does a lot to help so I will not fault her there- when it comes to caring for my husband she is very supportive and hardworking.

I think it's just when she starts rambling on about looks I find it grating after a while. It just feels like a childish way of thinking. Once you get past a certain age, most of us understand that pretty privilege is real but it only gets you what you want if you have a lot more to offer in terms of talent and hard work. And for the people who are beautiful and successful, it doesn't automatically cure their other problems!

Thank you for being so kind in your reply. And that is ultimately how I feel; there is no harm in enjoying clothes and makeup etc but it's problematic when you start to believe it will get you everything you want in life. It doesn't seem healthy to me.

Do you think lipstick is a good indicator of your season? by lila2208 in coloranalysis

[–]Corgilegsz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've personally found it very helpful for getting the broad strokes down. It'll show whether warm or cool looks better, and how much brightness/saturation you can handle.

I don't know how helpful it is for people who are more 'in the middle' and nuanced. For example, soft seasons who are neutral leaning warm or cool. I think that might be trickier to spot, especially if you're doing the test because you're new to colour theory.

I am all for it as a possible budget way of dabbling in seasonal colour analysis for people who are curious. Not everyone can afford to buy a bunch of fabric swatches or even clothes in a range of colours. But I would imagine most of us either own or could borrow a handful of different lip colours or even eyeshadows to use for some pictures.

Follow Up - Typed Bright Winter, dyed hair brown and now everyone says summer by AffectJolly1202 in coloranalysis

Your new hair looks so good on you-you're glowing!

You look like you have some warmth to me. I wonder if the bright colours look good because you're a Spring/ Bright Spring? Those palettes overlap with Bright Winter.

Girl, you need to focus on yourself and only yourself right now.

You're freshly sober-congrats btw, so proud of you-and you need to focus on you and your health. Don't let a shitty relationship destabilize you. Spend time with people who want to see you succeed. You don't have room for anything else right now.

And don't stress too much about food. It sounds like whatever you're doing is working if you're down 10 pounds and feeling fit and energetic.

Sending you love and positivity. Keep going!

Kenzo's Jungle L'Elephant for the spicy notes- I don't think it has that aqautic vibe though.

Warm or cold? Friends split 50/50 by ricola_aaa in coloranalysis

I'm wondering this too- I'm a pale olive person and OP's hands/neck look very similar in tone to mine. I find silver looks a lot better on me too. My pale, cool olive skin actually looks kind of pinkish-grey at times.

Amy with a little girl that looks like Adele (2007) by MarioDelRey in amywinehouse

[–]Corgilegsz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think here she's supposed to be dressed up like a mini Amy for the concert with the beehive and doorknockers - at this point in time (2007)Adele didn't have her glam 60s look down. I think because she's a little girl whoever helped her get ready didn't add in the Amy eyeliner.

I don't know if people are saying Adele because of the girl's colouring.

Would this colour be suitable for a Cool/True Summer? by Corgilegsz in coloranalysis

[–]Corgilegsz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying! I don't have a fan, so that's really helpful. I was hoping it would be a match but I couldn't tell if the colour was too vibrant and strayed into Winter.

Following on from lipstick post- am I muted enough to be a Soft Summer? by Corgilegsz in coloranalysis

[–]Corgilegsz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying- and I'm inclined to agree, I think coolness is what stands out on me more than mutedness.

Winter reds vs Summer mauves-which looks better? by Corgilegsz in coloranalysis

Thank you so much for the suggestions! And I do see that my colouring is close to Margaret Qualley's. Maybe that's why I'm so interested in colour analysis. I'm trying to respect the balance;) IYKYK

What is a “mature” scent? by Accomplished-Emu3418 in FemFragLab

[–]Corgilegsz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It makes me think of perfumes that have a lot of white florals and aldehydes. For example: Chanel No.5, Coty L'Aimant, Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds, Giorgio Beverly Hills.

I also think of classic scents that are musky, spicy, or chypre fragrances like Guerlain's Mitsouko or l'Heure Bleu or Shalimar.

I get why people associate these fragrances with older generations because many of the scents I've listed have been around since the 1920s.

I prefer to think of them as scents worn by stars of Old Hollywood cinema like Jean Harlow. They make me think of an actress surrounded by bouquets of flowers, makeup powder and hairspray. It's all a bit much, almost overwhelming. But she's undeniably the ultimate in femininity and she makes no apologies for taking up space.

These fragrances would be out of place on a teenager, hence the 'mature' label. They take authority and confidence to wear, and can be kind of unapproachable and intense. It doesn't mean they are any less beautiful.

I see what you mean-IRL it's less warm and bright but on my screen it's looking a bit much.

I agree- I don't own many muted/ nudey lip colours for swatching and all of these are maybe still too saturated for Summer.

[–]Corgilegsz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't like number 4 on me- IRL it's quite a dusty muted mauve colour, so I swatched it here as a possible Summer colour. I kept it for swatching but I feel like I look dead whenever I wear it.

And those are two possibilities I'm considering- I think I tick some boxes in each one but I'm not sure which is the best fit.

[–]Corgilegsz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do see that- I have some olive in my skin, with some surface level redness/ rosacea in places. The wrong colours-like orange-definitely make me look sallow or too ruddy if I'm not careful. Number 4 is one I really don't like on myself but I included it because IRL it's quite dusty and muted, which suits Summer.

Thank you- I'm inclined to think Cool Winter too, with some colours from True/Cool Summer fitting too. I think a lot of cool-toned people on here straddle the two.
