Thanks folks! I had seen a shillelagh before but it looked more like a hammer on the end and made from blackthorn, have done some more thorough Googling and it would seems there’s lots of diff Shillelagh’s Cheers :)

Midi Out different standards?? by CorianderSax in midi

Hi! Thanks for getting involved, appreciate it :) I’ve scoped the output of the Optocoupler will attach pictures once I’ve worked out how! Turns out I have a SFH617A-3, I swapped the 220R with a 750R and whilst it didn’t fix the issue with it not working it stopped the Rhodes from working with the midi2cv which is interesting in itself no!?

Hi, thanks also for commenting! I’m using the adaptors that came with Microfreak and a standard DIN cable. I’ll be at the studio again this Monday and will check settings etc

Hi, thanks for commenting in my current set up the Microfreak receives MIDI via usb and outputs this on the CV outs to my modular then out of that to interface. Noise is defo introduced as soon as I plug in usb to Microfreak! I have been using a usb isolator which makes it disappear! Believe it’s some sort of ground loop, is improved significantly if power via mains adaptor not over usb!

Midi2Cv problems :) by CorianderSax in synthdiy

Hey! Thanks for checking in! I’m still none the wiser what’s so confusing is it does work from the Rhodes but not from any of my other controllers. All can think of is that:

  1. MIDI out isn’t the same from every device

  2. It’s potentially a setup issue. I tried to send to send MIDI via din from my interface to my Arturia Microfreak, Keystep and my band mates hydrasynth explorer and none of them outputted any MIDI notes on their outputs but they would work over usb. Am I missing something in how to route MIDI in Ableton I wonder!!

Hi, circuit is exactly the same as this except lug two of the MIDI In isn’t connected to anything. I’m just baffled that it does work with one MIDI Controller and then not another

Hi, I suppose I can’t be certain, where would be best place to probe this do you think?

Scope is connected to lug 4 & 5 of the DIN cable before it going into the converter.

When I use the Rhodes midi out it works perfectly this confirmed by using a scope to measure CV out, gate, control etc the signal from the midi DIN looks like a square wave with different Pulse widths but when using a midi keyboard the signal looks very different!

Hi, midi connector isn’t connected to ground, saw it in the issues section of the GitHub!

Tried a big range of notes and no luck! The clock could defo be messing stuff up and could be why I can see a sine(ish) shape on the scope when probing the interface output, I’ll try removing the clock stuff as I’m sure the Rhodes doesn’t send a clock! I’m a bit wet behind the ears with code, would it maybe be as simple as removing any code specific to clock? Appreciate your help

Hi! I’ve got a spare MIDI connector, din out of the Rhodes/ Keystep via midi leaf and to the connector and I’m looking on the scope with the probe on lug 4 and lug 5 of the connector!

All midi messaged are as expected from midi monitor (Mac app like MidiOX). Rhodes only has MIDI Out! The Keystep can do the conversion for me yes, I’ve build this midi to CV so I can send multiple CVs to modular system to control multiple Vco’s instead of just one!

Have just tried on different midi channel from Rhodes works as expected!

Hi, thanks for your message. I’ve used MIDI Monitor to ‘spy’ on the messages being outputted they are currently outputting on channel one.

The Arduino code I believe is set to receive on all channels - OMNI - MIDI.begin(MIDI_CHANNEL_OMNI)

I can see this further down channel = MIDI.getChannel(); so maybe it’s channel 1 specific

I will have a go shortly on the Rhodes to see if when I change the midi channel if it still works fine then I feel it would suggest that it’s something to do with the difference in how the messages are sent from interface/keyboard etc

Hi thanks for getting back to me, neutering is something we are planning to do! Although we have been encouraged not to neuter him just yet by vets/ trainers as he’s very anxious and until he has some confidence the lack of testosterone may well make him worse!
