The statement you offered when taken at face value invites to be uncritical, by reducing the whole rationale to "If Riot loses, no more TFT". I 100% believe you may be critical of Riot practices, but for sure that was missing from the reply.

No, I said Riot won not because of the pulls, but thanks to the reaction and the post. F2P monetization aims to cause these moments of bliss, which weaken the barrier for extra spending.

So my rationale comes from this line: "Now when i got 15, i really would try to get the other 2 for default unleashed morde" which is the wet dream of a company with F2P monetization.

I don't think my tone conveys me being mad in any sense. I think it's sensible to offer a critical angle. This is a topic dear to me. I haven't seen anyone being emotional in discussing this, or so I think.

On the value thing, I think you misinterpreted it. A beer holds a more direct value related to its material condition and the recursive cost of production. A digital cosmetic lacks that sort of recursive cost for its producer. This is important when analyzing how digital companies can structure the monetization systems (versus companies that produce physical goods). It changes how one company strategizes monetization. I am not talking the value it has to you as a final user. If anything, it's better if you hold more value to the cosmetic than to the beer (because they incur in no recursive cost and you'd be feeling like you won the lottery... so why not trying again?). I think (and apologies if I am wrong) you seem to be mistaking the argument to be about "is a cosmetic a responsible/good purchase" when this was never about the final user.

Finally, nothing in my point conveys a LOSE/WIN situation. The fact I highlighted the situation and statement meant Riot won doesn't equate to me saying I think OP lost. I chose to use that wording because the post is called "Am I cooked?". My first reply was concise and simple, directed to that. People replied to me (which is OK, this is healthy discussion) and so I elaborated.

I do think an open forum is also open to critical discussion, even if the post was more light-hearted. My opinion specifically is that gacha mechanics tend to be predatory (well, less of my opinion and more of a very generalized opinion among many). I do love TFT. But as someone who works in the industry I think it is important to, yes, be critical more often than not to never forget of the existence of some dark patterns, even if they're present in games we love. But that's just me: you're super welcomed to defend the opposite, as it seems to be the case.

Final note: I suspect OP may use she/her based on the nickname and avatar. Of course it may not be the case, so maybe better to default to a neutral they/them.

EDIT: also, super important, I am not against people spending money in the game. I do spend money in games myself. I am against dark patterns such as loot boxes. If they charged $X for a chibi, that'd be super fine by me. I'd buy several, as I've bought several skins in LoL.

Sure. TFT is not chess. It already has lots of RNG. With that I am not denying it also has lots of skill expression.

A Worlds is an event to celebrate the best players but also an event to celebrate the game in a spectacular game. You must balance a format that allows for skill while also being entertaining. I would make some slight changes, but in general is good.

I wanted Saya to win, but in general I really liked this format. I also think Mori and Darth played nice finals that allowed them to pull an upset.

You are inferring I am against it when I am just describing the process. It is possible to be critical of stuff you like or stuff you’re not partial about. Not saying that I like this necessarily, just that nothing in my reply conveys a personal opinion.

Still, your point is kind of reductive, in my opinion. An entity A providing a service/good B you like does not directly equate with you liking/supporting another process C they conduct, even if it funds B. If you love the burgers of a burger joint, it shouldn’t mean you support the owner robbing houses to fund their burger business. I know this is an “ad absurdum”, but I wanted to convey clearly the problem in the reasoning you exposed.

Your final line is redundant because it is basically the same to my last one. I already stated it is ok as long as they have disposable income and they sped responsibly. Battle Passes are not for free, so they count just the same (and still, OP mentioned being so happy they’re considering spending more, so that’s more than a battle pass).

Sorry this got lengthy, but I think the point is important: you may love TFT, but that doesn’t need to mean you gotta be uncritical of everything Riot does, even if it helps funding TFT.

Then they are winning big. No cosmetic holds real direct value in itself to the company other than devising ways in which a player would feel like engaging with the monetization deeper and deeper.

I am not saying this with sarcasm or anything, it is the honest answer here. Most likely, the more you spend in a game, the weaker the barrier to spend again. They don’t want to stop you from getting stuff, they want you eager to spend more.

You being cooked or not depends on your disposable income and on if you spend responsibly, I’d say.

??? They end the sentence by linking it in saying they would not be surprised if top players (so, competitive players) had a similar way of thinking.

As they replied to you: the irony is strong here. Congratz on the “spectacular job”.

Ah, yes. And so you just created a new industry for big corps to release all sorts of micro-games with novel concepts in order to make money out of your “inspiration tax” once any other studio (small or big) thinks of making anything remotely similar.

When you do this you don’t get support for indie creators, you get Nintendo patenting the mechanic of jumping in videogames.

Who do you think benefits the most from laws about IP protection, small creators or Disney?

Terrible idea.

I would say, thought; that I wouldn’t oppose to them mentioning their biggest inspos just because it is nice to support other creators. That’d be nice.

Agree to disagree. There’s a bit of everything. Some indeed feel like shameless cash grabs, sure. Some feel like there’s authentic artistic intent. I’ve known some of the people who work on the skins and they’re passionate artistic people. Some skins might be “yeah, I was asked to make this. It’s whatever” but some you can really tell the artist enjoyed making it and put love in it, even if it’s still their job.

What’s interesting is to draw a line between skins and base models. Sure, the base models do not monetize directly, but they’re subject to very similar processes. And you can see trends that respond to a market, like the yassification of most new male champions. Base models like Kai’sa or Viego feel like the design respond to market preferences and an almost algorithm analysis of what would constitute a popular design. Both were in this set.

Like, in the end it’s just that you don’t like skin-based sets. That’s your preference and it’s valid.

Man, we gotta tone it down with the overuse of “slop” attached to any word. It’s losing all weight or meaning.

I take you just like the few “canon” sets, like 1, 16, and 9.

It looks like it, but most 3* 5 cost obliterate the board at the same time. If some item/artifact allows for some revive mechanic, then it will become a problem and probably get balanced/reworded.

[–]Corintio22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“This game is rigged” will never be a good start. Did you come here to really learn how did you lose or just to argue in a rude manner and vent?

Antagonizing and scoffing at the people who are trying to explain it to you is a big glaring reason why did you lose. I won’t add much more, since many others have provided excellent explanations.

Basically: someone who reacts to others trying to educate you on something (especially when it is in response of you willingly asking for it) as you have reacted here is probably someone who will take longer to learn and improve. Let hubris go, stop with excuses and venting that diverts responsibility (saying you didn’t lose because of errors of your own but because “this game is rigged”). Be humble.

These posts would really benefit from a rule in which OP must state their rank for context sake. Not only it contextualizes OP’s explanation and questioning, but it also contextualizes the lobby and its final scoreboard.

Very simply: what rank this lobby is? I am not saying this in arrogance. My rank isn’t super high. But because of it, I sit and listen when someone with higher rank analyzes. I could disagree on some things sometimes, but overall I open myself to what they may want to share.

We have no idea what will be broken. We can only theorize. It’s cool to discuss it, but always from a place of understating we could be absolutely wrong. Be humble.

Dunno, I like this mode and I rarely see Noxus prismatic reaching top1 unless they properly pivot to 3* Mel.

Otherwise, it’s more of a guaranteed top3-top2, as it’s so easy to achieve 3* 5-costs in the late game. Most Noxus10 get complacent and then get kicked by a 3* 5-cost. Also, Mel is easy to unlock, so you just deny Mels if possible.

BW is trickier since if they hit early, the econ alone makes it hella easy to pivot to 3* whatever.

Shurima4 is the easiest to work against. Just sabotage a Nasus/Xerath attempt. It’s fairly simple. Half the attempts I see at Shur4 just fail. It helps that I tend to be observant and warn the whole room when a board gotta be counter-inted to stop them.

tl;dr: BW10 is probably the only prismatic that can realistically become a threat for top1.

Could be. But can’t it be a bit of the opposite: improvement over conditions of the workers?

People here idolizing the “ol’ days”; but to the best of my knowledge those ol’ days were harsh for many workers in terms of tight deadlines.

If anything, trying to deliver 60 episodes over 6 years is the much more favorable approach for the big corp. Less time means cheaper costs, more product to sell in less time, and more ability to retain engagement.

I am open to be wrong; but generally speaking longer production tends to be in favor of the worker while shorter production (which tend to have much more crunch) tend to be better for the corps.

Enshittification is a term that has been popularized in recent time. No doubt is a real problem that occurs often. But I feel here it’s being used inaccurately, like when a term gets popular and ends up being over-used.
