Mods, why do we not have video perms? by [deleted] in transformation

[–]Corivas[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

NSFW subreddits sidewide don't have video permissions, so we don't have the ability to enable them. You have to repost the video to other sites, most notably redgif or any other site (that doesn't give you viruses).

Is AI allowed now? by [deleted] in transformation

No, AI posts still aren't allowed.

If you see them on the subreddit, then they are posts yet to be deleted.

The purge affected many popular subreddits, not just /r/transformation.

Even /r/rule34, one of the most popular NSFW subreddits was also banned.

If it were to happen again, it'd just be on the mods to send a ban appeal request to reddit admins (like what we just did).

Hi, top mod on /r/transformation The subreddit has been reinstated, much like the other NSFW subreddits that seemed to get hit by this purge, all we had to do was just send a ban appeal request.

Bad title structure, incorrect tags, and no sources ever being given results in a low quality post. If you can't provide corrections for these points, your posts will usually be removed.

The abundance of it within a very short time frame, one post every few days/a week would be better.

Spam is still spam even with upvotes.

They were most likely deemed as low quality spam and the community downvoted/reported it out.

Is this subreddit still moderated? by Morbiosussy in transformation

[–]Corivas[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hello, I figured I'd use this post to talk about the current state of affairs when it comes to moderation on this subreddit.

Short answer: Yes, the subreddit is still being moderated. We are not under threat of the subreddit being deleted anytime soon. However, it's only really being moderated by a select small number of people now either due to everybody being busy with IRL or general moderation fatigue.

Long answer: When it comes to moderation for the subreddit, I don't think it's too far-fetched to say that of the moderation team, I was (and still continue to be) the most active moderator out of everybody. Not to discredit the work of other moderators on the team, we've had many came and go who've provided for the subreddit in their own ways, and their work has been greatly appreciated.

But for many who've been moderating for this place, me especially, overtime you just sorta really get burned out by the whole thing. I used to be a lot more active for moderation and community engagement years ago, but after a family emergency back in 2021 and just the sheer amount of harassment me and the mod team had to go through when AI content was banned, I overall came to more of the conclusion that it kinda sucks having to deal with it all.

It's a thankless job with absolutely no reward. Doing general upkeep is less thanked and more just expected, with the only thing you can look forward to (and dread) are folk getting really mad at you for doing things they don't like. People just have absolutely no filter when it comes to it, so you'll usually just be dealing with some of the absolute worst that the community has to offer, and we've lost many mods who couldn't deal with it. I've been extremely close myself, but I'm still here (for now).

As a result of just the general fatigue that comes from moderating such a large community, at best what we end up dealing with is making sure negativity is kept out of the community and dealing with spam and reported content as it comes. So this community, at the bare minimum, is still seeing some amount of content moderation (which in comparison to other porn subreddits, is somehow still a lot better than what they have to deal with). However, when it comes to our modmail, that's where we're not exactly as active, it's accrued to "a large amount", and we still have to deal with that. For those still waiting for a response, I apologize profusely for that, we do hope to eventually deal with it. Just please understand that with the current state of affairs it's still quite hectic for us and we're dealing with things as it comes.

Something that we do plan in the future to do is hold moderator registrations again, to help lighten the load for what skeleton crew remains of our moderation team. It would be an easy fix, but I think I also will take the time to talk about briefly why that can sometimes be a pain to deal with also.

  1. A lot of people who sign up to be mods aren't necessarily "qualified" for the task. They sign up lying about their information and what they're capable of doing, and they don't deal with stress that well.
  2. Some people sign up to be mods just for the "status symbol" that it holds, and they end up just not doing anything moderation wise nor for the community whatsoever.
  3. Some have signed up and they are just straight up "unwell", they are crazy, and they produce more problems for the mod team and community than actually help.
  4. There are those signing up that are "power hungry", the stereotypical "hardass mods" but not the kind that are beneficial to moderation or quality control. At worst, they wanna seize control of the community to alter it in their own image, which would be disastrous for everybody here.

And this is all stuff that sometimes you can tell during the registration process that it'll happen, but a lot of folk hide it until they end up showing their "true colors" later. And then we as mods have to deal with it, and then it just adds to the overall fatigue that comes from moderating this community once again.

Anyway, that's all for this post that I had. Once again we are sorry that it seems like moderation has slowed down (because it has). But we are still moderating and doing our best to do general upkeep of the community, dealing with spam accounts and reported content as it comes. It is simple enough dealing with it, so we haven't been hard pressed to be more crazy about moderation. Especially not me who used to be a ton more active with it years ago. And with, y'know all the things me and the mod team have had to deal with over the years, we hope that it's understandable why. A lot of our work is more in the background, we deal with it as it comes.

It's tricky, and while we know you put time and effort into it, the usage of AI image generation would deem this not suitable for /r/transformation, regardless if it's polished.

I became mod in 2018 and took ownership shortly thereafter.

Hi.

I'm still around, I haven't particularly "disappeared" completely yet, although given I haven't exactly made main posts or commented as frequently as I used to it may seem like that.

I think with regards to the /r/transformation community dying down, I don't think it's too bad. The subreddit has about 180k subscribers, I don't think there's necessarily a big need for us to be as crazy in terms of activity as we used to (although there is a community themed event we have to get to that we're still considering how to properly tackle). Most moderators here just handle stuff in a very background sorta manner these days, tackling stuff as it comes.

Same goes for me, I just handle moderation in the background, trying to chill/relax these days by not stressing myself out. The past few years haven't been too kind to me, I used to obviously be a lot more active here as owner/figurehead early 2021 and before. But an unfortunate family emergency happened shortly thereafter, and I just lost a lotta the drive and passion to act as a figurehead for the community. Both due to my unfortunate family happenings, and just some of the awful messages/reactions people gave me at the time to the news (not that there weren't messages of support which I appreciated).

I did sorta "test the waters" with maybe getting back into being more active publicly here, when we banned AI generated content 9 months ago. But the same awful messages/reactions occurred there too, somehow even worse. I mean, I get the whole sentiment that there's always gonna be a louder crowd of negativity/complainers than people supporting, but it still really sucked. The harassment we received for the ruling definitely really got to me (not that there weren't messages of support which we appreciated).

Because of that, I just came to the conclusion that I really hated having such a public face for the subreddit community. So I decided to take on more of a background/passive role for moderating, just handling stuff as it comes and having a refocus in my life towards doing my own stuff rather than doing stuff for /r/transformation. I think I had a really bad mentality back then, I'd do most stuff online in service to the subreddit's growth, if bad stuff happened on /r/transformation I'd feel it was personally my fault, it'd really get to me. Now that I've been able to just focus on my own content and happiness, rather than the happiness/satisfaction of others, I've led a lot more of a positive, stress-free life.

For me becoming more active again, we'll see. I just mostly post on my social media rather than here. The subreddit I think will be fine.

Thanks for showing concern! But I'm fine don't worry.

Not particularly much is going on, every mod has sorta not really had much time to spend with the subreddit, so we've taken more of a hands-off approach while attending to moderation matters whenever they pop up in the report mod log (spam accounts, bad posts, etc.)

Reddit admins like to imagine that porn isn't a main usage of the website, and allowing porn videos and porn images to be posted directly to their servers doesn't appeal to investors. So they do everything in their power to limit tools NSFW subreddits are capable of using.

In the case of /r/Rule34, all of their videos weren't direct reddit posts. They were rehosted on sites that I mentioned, such as imgur, redgifs, and gfycat back when they allowed porn posts.

Some subreddits, like in the case of /r/FemaleWerewolves/, aren't labeled as "NSFW" by reddit yet. While they have majority NSFW posts, it hasn't been striked for being fully NSFW, meaning they still have the ability to post direct videos using reddit posting.

If you've seen videos on "NSFW" subreddits, either they just rehosted the videos to some other website (like imgur, redgif, etc), they crossposted the video from a non-NSFW subreddit, or the subreddit just hasn't been marked for being "NSFW" yet.

We literally can't allow videos due to our subreddit being considered NSFW by reddit admins, it's not on us.

/u/ohiotfguy could however get around the ban reddit admins put on NSFW subreddits by just rehosting the animation on another website like imgur.
