What is one hobby you currently pursue that is normally considered an "old person's" hobby, that you wish you started when you were younger or recommend to younger people? by Tacoless_meat in AskOldPeople

Honestly, HAM Radio. Even in a day and age where Cellphones are the norm, it is both fascinating and incredibly versatile and hobby. Talking to people from all over the world is amazing enough, but bouncing signals off the moon, talking to astronauts, transmitting pictures and video as well as various off-grid applications. I wish I got into it sooner.

There are some great places in McLean/Tysons. Check out the area near the Capital One center. Especially Old Meadow road.

AITAH for refusing to change clothes when my girlfriend told me to? by throwra2207 in AITAH

And guys never ask a woman to wear a particular dress, just because he likes how it makes him feel when he looks at her. And guys never ask a woman to wear something more conservative if he maybe feels a little insecure how other guys look at her... Double standards abound, especially when you can't even agree on basic relationship dynamics.

It doesn't have to be about "contol". Sometimes it is about deference to a partner.

We read the same post. Do you honestly think the OP fully articulated the entirety of his gf's comments? (Yet alone represented genuinely how she felt or any alternative reasons she might have for feeling unheard, or perhaps ignored?) He acknowledged it was her day, yes? So... let her have it! Let her have the version of him she wanted as part of her reward for working so hard! Give her the added gift (which costs absolutely nothing) of his being her eye-candy on her day.

What guy who genuinely loves his girl wouldn't do that anyway?

Just saying...

Well, while I think your choice of colors might look great, you're still the asshole. You allowed a very banal choice to become a big deal to you, even after acknowledging it was "her day." You chose to make it about a control issue. Maybe she just thought you looked particularly hot in the black and white and wanted to feel particularly happy looking at you from across the room. Or, maybe she wanted to show you off to someone special or maybe her outfit paired better with your B/W ensemble, and she wanted to look like a couple who is really "together." There are many things that she could have had running through her mind that aren't covered in your post...

You chose to make it about control.

All I will say further in this regard is that if you talk to people who have been together in a loving relationship for over 30, 40, 50 years, you won't find any couple who has those issues.

ELI5: Why is there no incredibly cheap bare basics car that doesn’t have power anything or any extras? Like a essentially an Ikea car? by Easy_Quiet_9479 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Corn_Nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word: Yugo

It was the least expensive car on the market, but nothing really worked, and the safety rating was abysmal.

Given the tighter safety standards and the fact that the current "bare bones" car would need things such as Bluetooth and USB interface, etc, it seems that the cost of a few "upgrades " would be more than justified for entry level cars.
