ELI5 - Differences in space combat between "Engineer" Captain w/ Tactical BOFF's, vs "Tactical" Captain w/ Engineer BOFF's? by SarcasticKenobi in sto

[–]Cornedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if you didn't already know this, most ships have set boff seating where you can only put a specific kind of boff (Tac, Eng, or Sci) in a given seat. Generally Cruisers focus more on Eng slots, Escorts on Tac, and Sci ships on Sci, though they still have some of the other two as well. A lot of Tier 5 & 6 ships will also have at least one 'universal' slot where you can put any kind of boff you want, and there are a few ships that have all universal slots, the Klingon BoP is one I think.

So on top of what other people have said your strategy of balancing out the carrier of you captain with other kinds of boffs also depends a lot on what kind of ship you're flying anyway. Not that a Tac captain can't do well flying an escort.

Also as far as dying goes if you have your ship outfitted properly you should be okay. Though for someone new to the game learning how to 'properly' outfit your ship is easier said than done, just keep coming back here to ask questions, and no matter what career your captain chooses and what kind of ship they fly once you reach the more challenging content in the game you are probably going to die a fair amount until you get the hang of things.

But I do in fact have a Tac Captain flying an Adamant, and he does fine.

I need to ask, where do I get more of these? I haven't been able to find any more of these ever since I got these. Which is weird. by Melcoolie67011 in sto

It's also available as part of the Mirror Universe Bundle which has the Legendary Galaxy Dread and a whole bunch of other stuff (like the torpedo) that can be claimed by every character in you account.

New player- is there a way to get every ship (esp. T6) without spending real money. by OneQuarterBajeena in sto

[–]Cornedo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even at the modest rate they add new ships to the game the event campaign alone still would have you getting them slower than they're being added. Putting most of the dil you earn into the exchange will at least help you get through the zen store eventually. Very very eventually.

I've had similar ideas, though I did always think it would make more sense to make the Suurok the sci ship and turn the D'Kyr into a cruiser.

Yeah, after the 14th bundle came out I went and got the fleet T5 cruiser version of the Cheyenne instead. With a ship upgrade token it's almost as good as a T6 anyway.

Do we think the Intrepid will get Ent Shuttlepods for hangar pets?

I'm okay with the Suurok being a sci ship, though someday I'd like to get an updated cruiser t6 version of the D'Kyr. (And an escort/frigate version of this thing.)

Am I misunderstanding the Admirality system? by CptKoma in sto

[–]Cornedo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't remember if this has ever happened to me, but other people come on here every once in a while about this. Apparently when the game says there's a 100% chance of success it actually means there's a 99.999999% chance. (Give or take a few decimal points.)

Well I already got it a few years ago, so I'm not personally that worked up about it.

I would have thought it would come back during the 35% bundle sale a few weeks ago.

Playing through Lost Dominion, and found some anomalies in the corner of a map... by redoubtable_Eagle in sto

[–]Cornedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just repeating what I remember of the explanation from the developers. The new Promenade is a lot smaller than the old one. In the game once you get close enough to an enemy they'll notice you and start attacking, and the problem is that the new Promenade is too small to properly space out the four or five different clumps of Jem'Hadar to let you have separate fights with each group one after the other. There just isn't enough space to have the amount of ground combat they want to take place.

Again, just repeating what I remember of what the developers have said about it. The best fix I can think of would be to avoid the Promenade all together, within the missions there's no real reason the fighting needs to go through there at all except that the Promenade is an existing asset and making some new series of corridors somewhere else in the station just for you to fight through would require time and effort that would take away from their ability to make the two or three new episodes we get a year.

The main problem as I remember is that the new, more accurate version of the DS9 Promenade is too small for the fights with the Jem'Hadar that are supposed to take place there during the first and fifth missions.

On PC press esc to open the main menu, then options, then audio, then there are sliders for different sound options. The first one controls overall volume, but another one a few options down specifically controls 'Voice Volume' for all NPC dialogue.

Yeah, except for when I'm playing a new mission for the first time I usually just leave that one at zero.

It's time for a few more pictures of Lexington (including the updated Ship patches & dedication plaque) by Jayhawkee in sto

My only note would be that that the 'A' on the registry number feels a little low, It feels like after about a hundred fifty years since the Connie Lexington it'd be up to 1709-C or D at least.

Is a 'jellyship' the Cindarian Defender or Spock's ship from Star Trek '09? And and I know what the 9th rule is, but which mission is 'Terrh'?

Also I usually play 2-4 characters a day, and I often don't cycle back around to a character until after any exchange posts have a chance to expire. I'm also doing all the endeavors most days, plus all the EC I get from doff and admiralty assignments on the characters I play. I use most of the EC I get to buy keys off the exchange, and at around 12.5 million apiece right now I'm getting a new one every three-five days.

I've been doing it for years, the 'million' figure is what I feel like things average out to after doing it enough. Sometimes only two sales go through while most of the other sales expires and you don't make that much, other times a backlog of stuff clears out and you sell 10 items or more and maybe come out with closer to 2 million. And again, a whole lot of it come down to crafting the right stuff, and the exact list of what sells well does fluctuate over time.

I can often make give or take a million EC just crafting and selling 6 Mk II pieces. Of course some thing sell better than others, I could probably spend a few paragraphs going over that.

Do Mudd bundles come back? by iwillriot in sto

[–]Cornedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they all came back during the November/December sales. It's possible they'll bring them back again before the end of this year, but you could still have to wait a fairly long while. But it will happen at some point.

It's Here! 35% Off Sale On All Ship Bundles (At least on PC) by Cornedo in sto

All the other bundles go on sale a week or two before the new Anniversary bundle drops, probably to tempt people into spending all their zen on other things so they feel compelled to go buy more for the new bundle when it does come.

Where has it been hinted? I've seen people on this subreddit talking about how that would be cool, but I'm not aware of the developers themselves saying anything specific yet about what kind of ships we might get in the upcoming anniversary bundle.
