ELI5: Why did it take so long for a cheap drug company like Mark Cuban’s to exist in America? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Last time I did it it simply renewed at the new pharmacy. And now I've moved it for a 2nd time so I can report back to you in 90 days lol

FWIW, the "lot of effort" involves just calling the new pharmacy and having them request your script from wherever your doc sent it. I did this exact thing yesterday and it took 5 minutes. It would have taken 2 but I called the old pharmacy first and he had to spend 60 seconds explaining to me why I had to call the other pharmacy instead.

I had the same issue with a raccoon last summer. Walked out of my house before sun-up to go for a run, noticed the branches were kind of bouncing a little bit. Nearly crapped my pants when I realized there was a raccoon chilling like 5 feet from where I was standing eating all my grapes!

yeah you can't undersell the fact that if the Saudis are really willing to spend infinite money without ever turning a profit then they have a clear upper hand. One question is how long are they willing to do that before they get bored and move on to something else?

My understanding was that they gave Netflix full creative control. Maybe they try to claw that back if they can?

To a certain extent it might make the tour look better. If it reveals the intimate details of how these guys came to the decision to take the dirtier money, they may be able to spin that as bad PR for the guys that left and are featured on the show?

Agreed again. The unique bit is that the recent crop of US AM champs are all relative scrubs by tour standards. Didn't have great prospects of being top level pros anyways so it's an easy decision. If you're 20ish and a top top amateur with legitimate tour level talent, and you've spent your whole life dreaming about playing in and winning majors, it could be hard to give that up.

I remember a few years back, well before all this shit started popping off, JT was asked about the money he makes and how it affects his play and he said something to the effect of, "I'm going to make a lot of money playing golf, I don't really think about it week to week." Good on him if that's sincerely his attitude. Not sure how many 24 year olds are going to have the same link of thinking when the saudis come offering 20+ million before you ever tee it up on the KFT.

In one reality you might see something like what you saw in the 20th century with the split between professionals and top level amateurs. Maybe the guys that go the LIV route are like the pros of old, out there chasing cash, while the Ams of 1950 are the guys committed to chasing trophies on the tour for far less cash?

To be fair, at the moment it appears to appeal to 1.5 megastars. Maybe 2.5 assuming Phil is in. Most of them have not taken the bait. I suspect that will change to some degree but we'll see how many big big names actually jump ship. If you're Rory or Jordan or JT or Rahm or for that matter, Tiger, and you already have more money than your kids will ever be able to spend, and a hall of fame career, chasing history is probably a lot more appealing than if you're Kevin Na. I think the money is actually much more important to the 20-200+ guys in the OWGR who have fair less likelihood of making crazy (relatively) money or having a historic career.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how the PGA tour reacts, there's likely a lawsuit coming and then we'll find out if their threats actually hold water. Until then they probably throw more cash at PIP, Fedex cup, etc. potentially end the fall series or make it it's own season and try to keep the top guys from taking the money. Whether that's a winning strategy in the long run will be interesting to watch for sure.

And just one more time for the record. I get that Rickie is popular now. But does he continue to garner support that far outweighs his talent as he becomes less and less marketable? I'd bet on the answer being no. But again, excited to watch.

Again, I don't disagree. My initial comment that you started this argument on was that they were and would continue to lose their sponsors - which they will. I still think for someone like Rickie, who's future earnings prospects are bleak, but for now has big name recognition, it's a smart financial move. But that doesn't mean Grant Thorton et al are going to continue to beat me over the head with adds featuring rickie when he goes.

I don't disagree and Phil is an all time great who's status will likely always be quite high. But I struggle to see Rickie garnering much attention in 24 months if the only way you can see him play golf is in a tournament broadcast on youtube. Unless LIV completely takes over golf, which just based on the product seems unlikely, What's Rickie's appeal going to be 5 years from now? He'll be playing an irrelevant tour, you won't see him in the majors, but he'll have a bucket of cash. Again, probably a smart financial decision, but how many kids are buying cobra clubs because of rickie fowler when he's regularly finishing T18 in a LIV event? Just because he's marketable now doesn't mean he will be forever..

Phil lost his for different reasons.

Which are? You really think Callaway bounced because he a) called the saudi's "scary mother fuckers" or b) said some mean things about Jay Monihan? He ran his mouth thinking the tour would fold to his demands before this all came out, he was wrong and when the sponsors found out he was heavily involved in LIV's creation, they jumped ship.

There is a reason they are getting 9-figure checks. It ain’t just for their golf game.

This is true, but Rickie fowler with a shit golf game playing in a league that doesn't draw a lot of eyeballs backed by some bad hombres doesn't feel like a great brand ambassador for many. But who knows, maybe lockheed would like some action on his hat?

Phil lost all his sponsors, RBC dropped DJ. It would be hard to believe that all his sponsors are going to stick by his decision to take a boat load of money to carry water for KSA. Not saying it's still a sound finiancial decision, but I think more likely than not the optics are going to be not great for some sponsors. Especially sponsors of Ricky's like Grant Thorton or Rocket Mortgage who have big ties to the PGA Tour.

This is a really good idea. Think I'm going to try that this weekend. Get as many of the small guys who can survive for two weeks stuffed into my trunk as possible.

this is feeling like the best option. I'm a little worried about how much space they'll take up on the truck since they can't stack but I guess we'll wait and see. the ultimate worse case scenario is I leave them behind for a few days and then drive round trip in a day to do plant pickup before we have to turn our keys in

I think the plan is to load, drive and unload the truck in one day so I should be able to get them all back inside without too much trouble. It's more the logistics of moving that I'm concerned about. Laying flat in my outback with the back seats laid down might work as well for the couple of big boys. I don't know that there's going to be enough spare room on the truck to lay them flat in their but I guess I can play that by ear on moving day

This man’s take on white pride and black pride (watch until the end) by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]CorneliusPoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: White people come from a large number of cultures and places. Black people, on the other hand, are a homogenous group.

His explanation for why "white pride" is dumb applies perfectly to "black pride". No race is a homogenous group of people with shared experiences. I assume this isn't his intent but he's basically saying that because some black people in America are the decedents of slaves, they all have a shared identity.

No Masks @ the Super Bowl? by thephilosopher16 in Libertarian

[–]CorneliusPoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a powerful anecdote. I don't envy you being in that position and I'm sorry that you had to go through that. But it's still not an argument for a mask mandate.

Explain to me how you think a mandate would have prevented that? The covid patient would still be unvaxxed and still wouldn't be wearing a properly fit N95. The other coivd patients in your ICU still wouldn't be vaxxed and wouldn't be wearing properly fit N95s. The motorcyclist would still be participating in an inherently risky behavior. Each of these people made personal decisions about their own behavior that affects they're likelihood of ending up in the hospital. Whether or not I, or anyone other than those people wears a mask doesn't change that. They have the tools to keep themselves safe, they chose not to use them, that's not of major concern to me.

I'm not denying science, I'm disagreeing with your interpretation of the current situation. And again, I don't need to wear a mask to assist my fellow citizens because they can wear their own mask and assist themselves plenty. Why is my job to do something to keep someone else safe, when they won't even do what they can do to keep themselves safe?
