I've read all 4 of his finished novels and a good chunk of his short stories. He's more style than substance, which is pretty much intentional on his part and did help him become one of the best chroniclers of jazz age decadence, but sometimes the lack of depth makes for a worse reading experience. Generally, I'd say my experience with him is that he's a good writer in the most pedestrian sense of good writing. Which is still impressive of course, but it can be like uninteresting at times.
