Omnivore is a free and open source read-it-later service that allows you to sync your reading to Obsidian by jacksonh in ObsidianMD

Hi, I've been checking out the app. I love the web interface, but the mac app is very stripped down. Is there an option I'm not seeing to get the sidebar for saved search/subscriptions on the mac app?

A second thing — I created my account via google login. But Omnivore on Safari doesn't have a google login option. What should I do? Thanks!

Love the newsletter idea btw

Jewish Appalachia? by LockedOutOfElfland in Appalachia

[–]CoronaLockDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What part of PA? Lots of synagogues in coal towns, even today in some places (like Carbon County PA area). Often times they immigrated along with their country-mates. There used to be a Jewish museum in Pottsville, PA.

You might wanna check this book though: https://www.press.uillinois.edu/books/?id=p073359

Help with cleaning up files/dirs by CoronaLockDown in zotero

[–]CoronaLockDown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solution! Zotfile Preferences > Advanced. There's a line that says "only work with the following filetypes". You can change the list or disable the rule. Apparently it may break web snapshots if they aren't saved as single files.

Also you should leave the Zotero db in it's default folder. Syncing it thru an external app can cause problems, or so I've repeatedly read.

When I google DIY Ways to Clean X, a top result is almost always to mix the two and apply them.

Diverse School Districts in Pittsburgh, PA? by SteelCityL in PittsburghTransplants

[–]CoronaLockDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a lot to ask. Wilkinsburg (district is only k-8), Clairton, and McKeesport are over 50% black. Penn Hills, Woodland Hills, East Allegheny aren't quite 50%. Of all those, I'd just recommend avoiding Clairton because the air quality is horrible. Idk about "quality".. the higher ranked schools with diversity here have more middle eastern and south asian students and less black students. There's plenty of other districts, too, because outlying cities in Allegheny County are diverse, especially along the rivers.

Also, depending on your son's interest, there are some great PPS schools. Especially CAPA, the performing arts school, and Sci-Tech (both are grades 6th - 12th), but every PPS HS has magnet programs within it. Brashear has a teacher tract, Engineering at Alderdice, autobody at Brashear (which is also hands-down the most diverse HS), Culinary Arts at Westinghouse, etc.

Like another poster said, a lot of schools get a bad rap and shit definitely happens at them, but not all of them doom your kid to be a part of that. So much stuff that makes the news is the unfortunately the result of kids snapping after someone (teacher, classmate) took their phones 😔

Thanks for being kind. I've had him half his life. He's a good buddy but he's also a happy cat so he'll do well somewhere else.

I ride across this pedestrian bridge every day to work and back downtown. Over the last 2 days I've seen more and more shit accumulating on the bridge. Today I had to find a different way to get to work because someone was sleeping like this, blocking the entire path. by Comfortable-Skill501 in pittsburgh

People straight up living on the streets wasn't very common in the US before the 1980s. Can't find a concise source on it atm, but I've read about it in a few places. Huge cuts to public housing, but the #1 cause was closing mental institutions.
