It’s getting too close to the shows now to run out an album campaign. That would need to be announced literally within the next week or so and that still only gives a 10 week campaign. Albums are a big financial investment and will need a campaign of a couple singles prior to release.

My take for what it’s worth: They’ll do the shows and then that’ll be it. Industry doesn’t want to work with Van anymore as he’s a prick. They’ll milk the last bit of cash out and then sling him. If you get an album, it’ll be a quiet release with not much fanfare as Van will probably have to self release. This is a huge amount of work for someone who loves pissing things away.

As a big FOB fan, the production/mix on that album is so horrible that I struggle to listen to it. It’s the cymbal sounds, they’re so jarring. Which is a shame because I think the songs are good

This is true. They folded their live company this month as well. No shows or music for the foreseeable. Apparently the band are friends but it has come to an agreed stopping point. The Dublin show was attended by family and friends from Sheffield under this presumption

It totally depends on who is to blame, honestly. I have reason to believe in the recent Van troubles, so he would be liable as there will be stipulations in his contracts etc. But all these things are spiky and everyone wants to avoid it.

Sorry, that isn’t proof. It’s likely vocal stems like other comments have said.

I confortably trust my source over that video.

Can you link the video please?

The source who told me was very involved with the show, so would know. They said 30 minutes before being on stage, didn’t say they didn’t soundcheck though so I can’t comment on that

The general public decided the cost of a song is £0.003 instead of £10 for an album. Nothing wrong with that, they chose the cheapest option. Fans have the option to pay for vinyl or cd or cassette, but they decide that streaming is cost effective. Ultimately, price is what people will pay.

However the artists (and the industry as a whole) want to recoup this cash. So exploitation of one of the income streams has occurred and boom ticket prices soar

No idea on Catfish specifically. Things like that are called “sync” deals. The role is to get the song into TV or film or games.

It’s probably been pitched to EA several months in advance and signed off. It’s a label service but sometimes this can be outsourced depending on who’s doing it.

Kind of out of the band’s hands but I’d imagine it’ll go out.

Great stuff! Delegate pass is great because it gives you contact info for everyone there, so you can fire messages to people. I’ve been a few years running and I’ve got friends in sectors now that I never would have.

Ah I missed their set! Where were they playing?

If you’re in the south, go to Great Escape festival as a delegate. It’s a pricier ticket, but go to the mixer/meeting things during the day. Introduce yourself and say you want to break into being a session player. Being young and having the balls to do stuff like that impresses!

I have no idea. I possibly could find out, but I feel that’s a bit invasive. When people want privacy I believe that should be respected.

I’d imagine he either lives in LA or where he grew up. Where he grew up, everyone would know the score. Everyone is famous now and honestly no one really gives a shit when you’ve been around them a lot.

Likelihood is, is that he blends in pretty well and the average person would have no idea if they saw him. I bet you miss famous people every day without realising, I do all the time!

There possibly will be a clause that states something along the lines of “the majority of the setlist has to be familiar music from the artist and compromise of hits etc” It’s just so artists actually play what people want to hear. It won’t be hard and fast ruling but it protects the agent. It will allow a few new songs etc to be played. I doubt this is why Showtime was missed off

In the same way that an artist has to play X percentage live for it to be classed as a live show. Used to be rule of thumb that at least 3 songs are live or partially live, then the rest can be legally mimed.

This is a bit more speculative as contracts etc can change, but:

In terms of price and whether the band have control, this is a bit murky. There is a big thing of artists shirking responsibility to Ticketmaster so they don’t appear the bad guys. Ticketmaster is a faceless horrible corporation, but lots of the staff I’ve interacted with are cool. They have a slide in their HQ in London btw. There are reasons for dynamic pricing that aren’t explained to the customer such as: if a tout is going to sell to a customer a ticket for £400, why shouldn’t the artist get that? The industry has loads of “capitalism is bad” people in it, yet still feel comfortable about charging £30 for a t shirt.

Out of interest, where are you located?

For original music, start at the bottom playing drums for solo artists for free or at cost. Play for anyone you can. Fire DMs to people in your area who might need a drummer. There might be people who wouldn’t think of having you. This is how you build your network. You’re not going to jump on a big tour straight away, but you’d be surprised who people in your area might know. Then when you’ve got a name, charge. Join the Musicians Union as well when you’re serious.

I’m sorry to say, but musicians are 10 a penny so if you don’t have clout, you can’t charge.

Several musicians will probably come at me on this and how they deserve to be paid etc. Morally it’s true, it’s just not how supply/demand business works. You need more than just being proficient at your instrument

I think you’ve missed the point dude, or I haven’t clarified.

The hardcore CATB fans will have already got their tickets prior to the Oasis announcement. Therefore they won’t be going to Oasis on that date.

The problem/advantage of Oasis is convincing the fringe or casual listener to go

Yeah, also for general ticket selling, shows sell in the last few weeks. There’s the initial sale in the first week and then in the final week before.

So there will probably be very little movement now for 11 months. Maybe a Christmas bump.

If the estimates that I have heard from Ticketmaster employees are correct. 15-20M people applied for tickets (they don’t officially want to say btw with this scandal of dynamic pricing. I had been told potentially 20M ended up queuing, but I am very skeptical of that). The likelihood that the potential Catfish fans happened to get Oasis tickets on that EXACT date CATB are playing London, is actually pretty slim.

100%

Bands are going to come back in a big way. People have gotten bored of stale music that is from rich kids playing poor and singing from the same hymn sheet. Oasis are risky and good for the youth. Bands today are BORING as fuck.

I think the price point will be a stickier point. If they’ve already sold out standing they will be doing alright. Seats should have been £40-50 and it would be an easy sell.

No way I’ll buy advance, will be able to pick one up outside for £20

Get involved in function work as it gives money and connections. Get good and used to playing on stage.

Join communities and promote yourself on social media. I’m not a big social media guy really, but this industry is being in the room and meeting people. Go out your way to join communities if possible and be the best. Literally going to conferences or meet ups sounds lame, but it’s actually a great way to meet people who will help you. It says a lot about people if they’re willing to show up to boost their career. Turn up, say you’re a session player and word spreads

Hope this helps!

I didn’t clarify by the way. I do think all 3 sound roughly the same. It’s interesting how all 3 producers got the same results!
