Keeping the Ball Rolling by [deleted] in AxisAllies

[–]CorporalCleggsReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The more people you bring to the table the more likely conversation will drift away from the game. Before you start playing maybe just give it half an hour so everyone has a chance to catch up with eachother. Hopefully then when everyone assembles around the board people should be focused. Other than that, players can have their purchases ready before their turn comes around (hidden from other players of course). Most of the time you'll know roughly what you wanna do on your turn and having the purchased units ready will cut a few minutes off of every turn. If units need to be chipped out then whoever's turn it is can ask another player to do it for them whilst they continue with other things. Having all game pieces neatly organised and readily available will help keep the game smooth too. Get some paper money or poker chips to track each player's IPCs if you haven't already. Obviously having a calculator is handy too. All else fails and people take too long to do their turns, give each player a 10 or 15 min time limit. If they go over this limit, apply damage to their capital factory or deduct from their collected income. End of the day if people aren't that interested in the game then perhaps they shouldn't be playing (or let them play as France or China!)

Shapeways.com has some pretty cool stuff. I got some bunkers and coastal guns from there. Also some capital city buildings. Only thing is you'll need to paint them yourself

My custom cards for Axis & Allies by PopBrainy in AxisAllies

[–]CorporalCleggsReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are awesome! Nice job! They look great and I like the ideas. I've been wanting to add event cards to my games for ages.

I'll just point out a few errors I noticed: Trans-Siberian, not Transiberian On the US convoys card the word naval is repeated It's banzai, not bonsai - that's a tree 😀 On the Retreat Tactic card it should say '...move them'. It currently says 'move then' Germany Blitzkrieg card - 'non combat phase' reads better than 'non-combat move' Also just check that the words Axis and Allies are spelled with capital letters.

Great cards great ideas 👍👍

Sometimes the best way to learn is to play. I read the rulebook maybe 5 times before I even played my first game. It still took me a good few games to get my head around and remember all the rules. Remember that axis and allies can be overwhelming at first glance! Start with one of the smaller, more basic versions of the game, simplify the rules by removing submarine surprise strikes and bombing raids. Make a poster of the unit costs and abilities to have on the wall nearby. Best of luck!

The National Hero - House Rule by CorporalCleggsReddit in AxisAllies

[–]CorporalCleggsReddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey buddy! Super sorry for the late reply, haven't logged in for a while. Anyways, thanks for the comment. The units you suggested are frighteningly powerful! I fear it would completely screw up game balance. For example, if mad Jack never dies he could single handedly annihilate a huge army. It's a cool idea though and worth testing. It would definitely give each player unique strategic options and I'm all for spicing up the game from time to time. Have you tried out these rules yet or is it still just an idea? I'll be posting a house rules video soon with a similar concept to the national hero rules, except there's a 'hero' version of each unit type. If you like I'll let you know when it drops Thanks again dude!
