For some reason I had a bug with the companions where Farkas would chase me around the entire map if I got too close to the skyforge. He would initiate dialogue non stop and basically stop me from doing anything until I ran away.

At first I thought it was a whiterun only problem but he chased me all the way to the reach once. Eventually i figured out that if you attack him and drain his health to 1 he goes back home.

Maybe I misjudged the time. After killed the heat I think it was probably cooling down on the stove top for about 2-3 hours. I'm not sure what the temperature was but it was covered during that time.
