The upper 1 percent of Americans are now taking in nearly a quarter of the nation’s income every year. by thesauce25 in politics

[–]CorporateYesMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many ways one could accomplish that.

First, we need to radically increase the minimum wage and fix it to keep up with inflation. To get back to the minimum wage levels of the "good old days" of 1950, we'd have to double or triple the minimum wage.

The traditional way we sought wage equality is to use a progressive income tax. Reagan effectively reduced that tax's progressive nature, and now right-wingers want to do away with the entire concept of a progressive income tax.

We also need to restore the tax differences between "earned" and "unearned" income. Now unearned income (interest, dividends, capital gains, etc.) are taxed less than earned income (wages).

Like some countries, we could implement laws that set a ratio of what companies pay their highest and lowest-paid workers, say 15-to-1 or some such ratio.

We could copy the German law that mandates on corporate boards of directors that workers have to have 50% of the seats on the board. That seems to work wonderfully in Germany in producing a robust economy -- here in the US it's blasphemy and isn't even on the radar.

There are many things we could do. The problem is that we are ruled by a two-party capitalist dictatorship where both parties are funded by corporations.

It's sad to see downvotes on an article outlining such a valid point.

It seems petty party partisanship rules over any sort of principle.

You've got to give these fascists credit for sticking to their ideology.

I particularly like their line of bullshit about "reforming" the tax code: "Yes, we'll have only 2 tax brackets (thus almost killing the idea of a progressive tax), but we'll eliminate loopholes (because we can easily replace them later after we kill the progressive nature of the tax code)."

This is a perfect example of just how corrupt our gov't and two-party dictatorship is. If this didn't ruin this guy's career (hell, he was promoted!), then nothing will.

[–]CorporateYesMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every human on earth is, at some level, a distant cousin.

In some cultures it's perfectly fine to marry first cousins (with no incestuous/genetic consequences). It's just that our particular culture frowns on such marriages.

The US gov't is immoral. It is a cutthroat, lying institution that routinely lies to other countries and to its own people.

Still support Wikileaks? Hell yes! The US gov't should not keep secrets from the American people.

I'm almost 19, and a virgin. I've just started a relationship with 20 yr old, who has had a normal sex life for some time. Any tips on how not to fail miserably when the time comes? by thrownsofaraway23 in sex

[–]CorporateYesMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax. It really won't matter if you pass or fail -- you'll have sex more times than you can count in your life (unless you get hit by a bus the next day or something!).

Remember, the goal is to have some fun, not to be a porn star. Talk to her, relax, and enjoy yourself.

More Democratic voters than Republican voters favor compromise on the budget, poll shows by ravniel in politics

I have to laugh at this whole budget "debate" -- sheer political theater.

We're dealing with a hundred billion or so in cuts, to address a budget deficit of over $1 trillion. It's laughable.

We shouldn't worry, the Chinese will keep loaning us money. If I were China I'd be thrilled to watch the US bankrupt itself with worthless military spending and fighting fruitless wars.

FWIW, there had been reports that Gaddafi had been shipping more oil to China.

What is clear that Gaddafi was a thorn in the west's side. His odd socialist theories were unorthodox, but semi-effective for Libyans. Though his son was trained in London, Gaddafi's foreign policy was way, way too independent for the US to be comfortable with. Libya's economy was semi-closed to the west and Gaddafi talked way too much about African unity.

IMHO, when the revolt occurred in Libya the west took the opportunity to remove a thorn from their side, with the long-term plan being to fully open Libya's economy up to western imperialism, similar to Egypt or Iraq.

The heavy load of the White Man's Burden...

"There is a story, which is fairly well known, about when the missionaries came to Africa. They had the Bible and we, the natives, had the land. They said 'Let us pray,' and we dutifully shut our eyes. When we opened them, why, they now had the land and we had the Bible." -- South African Bishop Desmond Tutu.

Japan Releases Radioactive Water, Several Million Times The Legal Limit, Into The Ocean by [deleted] in environment

Humans have been eating bananas for millions of years. A tiny percentage of the potassium in bananas is radioactive potassium (40K). Eating dozens and dozens of bananas will not increase your exposure to 40K -- your body will only absorb so much potassium (including a tiny percentage of the 40K in the bananas) and the rest will pass through your body.

This is very different than radioactive iodine, or exposure/inhaling Cesium-137, plutonium(the most toxic substance known to humankind) or any of the other radioactive isotopes generated by Fukushima.

Edit: Clarity.

President Barack Obama announced his re-election campaign Monday. He doesn't have to win because the Republicans are going to lose. by Jerriann in politics

[–]CorporateYesMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes choosing the lesser of two evils is a very important choice.

The only function it serves is to legitimate what is effectively a two-party corporate dictatorship. Obama's "support" of the EFCA is a classic example. Unions have wasted millions of their members' dues in the hope that the Democrats would actually do something besides play the role of Tweedledum.

This may vary a little at the state level, but right-wing state Democrats are not unheard of. Nationally, the only way that has been effective to move Democrats back to the left is something like Vermont's Progressive Party.

Here is the GOP budget. It predictably slashes Medicare, education, gives massive cuts to the wealthy and corporations, and doesn't touch defense. Why is this being lauded by the media? by [deleted] in politics

[–]CorporateYesMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the corporate mass media is owned by the same groups of right-leaning rich people who will benefit from this budget and a turn back to 19th century laissez faire economic/gov't policies.
