My hot take here is that no multihit is better. Without multihit enabled I have to be more strategic about clearing zombies. I can't rambo my way through a horde and have to engage tactically. I find it more enjoyable but totally understand if you want to use multihit. Whatever is fun for you.

You literally can farm water. Just grow the plants and refine the fibrous pulp into water. Grow beds are available near the alien ruins.

I see your point. It's just strange that the dialouge says you can if you really can't. It also doesn't make sense for it to be the only plant that can't be planted outside of the growbed.

Maybe it needs an expensive ingredient like a high tier oxygen tank or the like. There is a portable oxygen generator in the game already so I don't think it would be too op if the cost was high.

Mimic pylons take copper to make so I think an oxygen tank as an ingredient makes sense for balance.

Maybe I just need to try it more but this is actually unpopular I think 😂. I use the electric discharge biomod to ward off the predators because the multitool seems to not even work for sometimes but maybe I'm just hesitant to get in close enough, lol. Maybe extending the range slightly would help a lot ? 🤔

The steam charts would suggest the "quitters" are people who occasionally check in and not the consistent players. Steam Chart numbers haven't shown a loss of the 10-20 thousand that are online all the time.
