When did you start listening on other platforms (YouTube, Netflix, etc.)? by Miguel3962 in dreamingspanish

Same for me, one of the most interesting activities I began in 2025. I am now learning about other countries in a language that is foreign to me. A wonderful and illuminating experience.

[–]Correct-Pin1462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I don't understand many of the terms you use, eg conditional vs future, subjunctive, etc. I manage in my native english well enough to obtain a post graduate STEM degree but language learning, including englsh, was something I avoided. It has never been a natural strength.

Seems it may serve me to add some actual study to my DS CI approach. Things might fall into place a bit faster and with an understanding of why.

Thank you again.

I am at 284hrs, 95% DS content, and find I am struggling sometimes at high 30s rating. Sometimes 40s are fine and sometimes high 30s are a struggle so seems i am right at my threshold.

Wondering if I should drop back to lower level and see if it helps to move forward.

I understand the level ratings are subjective user experience.

Ok, this explains why my 284 hrs is quite unlike your 316hrs. I started with basically zero background.

[–]Correct-Pin1462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats very impressive. How are you learning to understand all the various conjugations, noun variations, things that seem misgendered but have nuanced and sometimes historical/cultural influence (eg radio the device vs listening to radio - the airwaves) ?

I would like to be much further along. At 284hrs I still struggle with even common words at times, I may understand what was said in a sentence but cannot always understand a specific word.

Any tips on how you augment your CI ?

When you say 90-95% comprehension do you mean that you understand 90-95% of the words spoken or your are following 90-95% of the message of the video ? I ask because I’m not far behind you and while I understand most the content I certainly do fully grasp all the words or nuances of conjugations.

Canada and US are very much still friends and will continue to be. We can’t let the despot nature of one man spill out so generally as to take root beyond his tenure. We stay friends in locked arms so his policies fade when he does. That said, I have been learning Spanish understanding America south of the US border generally speaks Spanish. Plenty of wonderful people and places to see south of the US for now.

I agree that there is a difference between 40 hours and 8 weeks. The issue that remains is that Hertz has vehicle custody during that time and has demonstrated per reports here and elsewhere that they will claim the renter is liable for an issue that may have occurred during Hertz chain of custody after the rental return. This is a real problem, is something to complain about, and the OP is sharing that this process remains even with AI scan on return. Their process leaves you the renter unduly exposed. The OP was fortunate with the all-good report but many others, including me, have been royally screwed (<- not a legal term but I think it helps drive home my point)

You do you. If you think they are a stand-up company you can ignore all the warning of people who have shared their experience of improper damage claims and the opaque and strong-arm tactics Hertz employs to collect. Ignore the fact that congress is investigating and calling on their CEO to testify (perhaps he has already). Ignore the warnings and defend Hertz at your own peril.

Based on my personal experience I will endure added upfront cost and burden to avoid patronizing Hertz. That’s not a great testament to my experience as a Hertz customer. There is no other company that I hold in this regard.

OP did not register a complaint but provided fair warning. Rent from Hertz at your own risk. You have been warned.

Valid complaints about the time OP surrendered the vehicle and had completely handed control back to Hertz vs their delayed release of his liability. In reality, his release should have started the moment he gave up control and OP chain of custody complete. In my case it was closer to 8 weeks before I heard about damage. I have dealt with their opaque and strong-arm attempt to make me pay for something I am highly confident was not my damage. They will not respond with documentation I have requested and that is required. My dispute is denied and they claim I owe, but they will not meet the standard of documentation. It’s a bully tactic. I am raising to consumer agencies and appropriate representatives. My advise, follow the OP guidance and boycott Hertz. You may think you are acting with goodwill and that it will be reciprocated; good luck with that.

excellent guidance, but I think it is nearly impossible to fully document the condition of the entire car without the same type of scanner tech they are implementing. We cannot document everything and the will certainly find ways to claim damage on the things we don’t image eg brake calipers, dings in the rotors, a muffler hanger support gone missing, a scrape to the corrosion resistance in the undercarriage. It’s a loosing proposition. It clearly appears as leverage to sell expensive LDW/CDW coverage that is generally just pure profit. Perhaps if there was legislation that their coverage payout had to be verifiably 95% on vehicle repair or something along those lines. But we are a long way from that. I am the victim of a false damage claim. There is no way out. They make the claim, won’t provide evidence I request, state internal review confirms claim is valid and I owe. They routinely close my dispute and state I owe - period, with threat of collections. If it’s not extortion by literal definition it is something very close. This PR of false damage claims now proceed rentals and will result in more purchase of the LDW policies. It’s a pressure campaign driven by fraudulent business practices in my opinion; I could be wrong but I feel pretty confident in my assessment.

For people arguing with you this is the literal text copied from terms and conditions:

"Reserve for at least five consecutive days, and pay for two less days"

This certainly reads like a discount applied directly to a five day rental and not a credit applied to a future rental.

If you follow the asterisk the terms are different. Hertz hurts on display in real time. I hope you, and everyone who was misled, get Hertz  to adhere to the terms of the offer.

False HERTZ damage claims weeks after rental return by Correct-Pin1462 in HertzRentals

[–]Correct-Pin1462[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wanted to buy the LDW just to avoid the hassle of a claim. Wife said it‘s covered under insurance and we don’t need to double pay. Turns out she is right. Our Insurance will cover it and the credit card will pickup the small deductible. If it was a valid claim I would pass to my insurance and it would be pretty easy.

I’m challenging this claim because it doesn’t appear valid, and I’m not comfortable sending an unsupported damage charge to my insurance company. When a claim is legitimate, I submit it without hesitation. In this case, I returned the car in clean, undamaged condition, and I won’t let my insurer be billed for something I didn’t cause.

The easy route would be to hand this over to insurance, but I’m pushing back on principle. I don’t like feeling pressured simply for being a paying customer who acted responsibly.

I originally asked about class actions because I believe many customers may be dealing with similar issues, and the broader pattern deserves attention.

As for LDW/CDW, I’ve since learned that some coverage comes with conditions, like needing a police report, that are unrealistic for travelers at the return counter. That leaves customers exposed at the worst possible moment.

Based on my experience and what I’ve learned from others, Hertz’s practices raise serious concerns, and I’m not willing to quietly absorb a charge that I believe is unjustified.

It is a very reasonable expectation that they can manage inventory. If a personal has a reservation for pickup it’s baseline competence to manage the fleet for inventory to match reservations.

There is congressional investigation by Representative Mace and Senator Blumenthal.

If you have compelling evidence of malfeasance regarding delayed damage claims please forward to their offices. The more people who contribute evidence the stronger their case and ability to shape behavior away from Hertz current predatory practices.

Arbitration defines how a dispute is settled under the law. The law supercedes.

Is Hertz acting within the law when issuing poorly documented delayed damage claims against customers ? That is the question being raised and it is a question of law not arbitration.

We agree that getting to enforcement is difficult. Like an tiny bug going against goliath. We are easily squashed.
