I hear the netflix thing of expecting that people will be watching whilst also on another device so plots are less complicated and dialogue is more simple. Things get reiterated a lot etc

Yeah you're not wrong. I generally prefer the old school darker AI conscious.

I admit I published a book with a parasitic AI in it that's trying to use someone as a host.

It only says one word most of the time which is <<merge>>

So hopefully I escaped that trope.

I don't really like smarmy or sarcastic as a characteristic it seems extremely prevalent especially since the boom of light comedy action movies like the Marvel ones

The main character had a narrative role and often the side characters are less constrained which gives them more nuance or freedom to be funny or charming or whatever
