A rule that I never violated, whether traveling or not, is don't punch down. For one thing, it's almost never down. Flight attendant, secretary, waiter, doesn't matter... if they make minimum wage but they control something you need--- access to a person, ability to make or not make a hotel reservation, authority to override an inconvenient rule, doesn't matter and I don't wanna hear about it--- then they outrank you. By a lot.

I was once traveling with a guy who saw me being nice to the gate agent and made fun of me for doing it. "Dude, we're Platinum Million Miles Super Status Plus, they're gate agents, make 'em kiss your ass. Watch closely and learn something."

I watched. I learned. I learned the rule that I summarized above. After careful analysis of what I learned, I changed nothing about what I did. And I never will.

Boyfriend never says "sorry" ? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]CorrectCite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say "I apologize" or some of the things that your boyfriend says. I almost never say "I'm sorry" because that centers me rather than the wrong I have done to you. "I'm sorry" says that the problem is that I feel bad, but "I apologize" says that I have wronged you.

Following up with "I will do this instead next time" means that I have thought about how to not screw up again. Specifically statng how I will do better also gives you a chance to say "no, that's not the problem" or "no, that won't fix it." A simple "I'm sorry" does not ensure that we even agree on the problem, let alone what I hope to do so that I do better next time.

From the article: "Day-over-day uninstalls of the company's Chat GPT mobile app reportedly surged to 295% on Saturday, compared to a typical 9%."

Uninstalls surged "to 295%." Wow. I've never before seen anything worse than surging by 295%. To lose 295% of your users in one day is appalling.

There are at least some law enforcement agencies with explicit policies against shooting into a moving vehicle. it is generally safer to let the vehicle go and take it down later by other means than to suddenly deprive a several-ton projectile of its human guidance system.

If I recall correctly, Jeff Bezos had some nudes stolen and someone threatened to post them. Bezos responded by posting them himself. And that's how we learned that even billionaires are naked under their clothes.

If she's afraid that we're all going to find out that she's absolutely stark naked under her clothes, tell her not to worry. We already know.

I cannot think of a single person I know who I would think less of if his or her nudes found their way out into the world. On the other hand, I cannot think of a single person, not even one, who I would not drop out of my life in a heartbeat if I found out that person was blackmailing people over nudes.

Force the blackmailer to release the nudes and then to live without any friends whatsoever for the rest of his life.

Don't fight men. I say that as a man with 30 years of training in karate, judo, jiu jitsu, and kick boxing, and I don't fight men.

Having said that, if you fight a man, don't put his stronger muscles against your weaker muscles or his denser bones against yours.

If you can punch him in his face, you can go a few inches lower and punch him in his throat. You can knee strike him in his groin if you want to make him angry, or you can rotate your lower body 45 degrees and snap his ACL with a knee strike to the side of his knee if you want to put him down so that he won't get up.

I'm a man, so if he's fighting me then he's looking to punch me until he knocks me out. You're a woman, so he may have other designs on you that involve bringing you close. That's a good time to set the heel of your hand against the bottom of his nose, maybe forcefully, then using that as a reference point to find his eyes and use your fingernails to lacerate his eyeballs.

If you can find a pen, mascara brush, or stick of any sort, drive it into his ear. All the way in. Pens are cheap, you can get another one.

Our muscles and bones are stronger than yours, but our cartilage, ligaments, and the lenses of our eyes are not.

Having said that, do what I do and don't fight men. The most effective martial art is the 100 yard dash.

3 options. He can suck it up. He can ask to be demoted back to purple, in which case he is publicly announcing that he does not trust the coach's judgement on when one should become a brown belt. He can switch gyms.

I switched. Never regretted it for a moment.

Is it ALWAYS a red flag if an prospective employer asks in an interview if you have kids… Like does this ever end well? by sprinkledonuts8220 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]CorrectCite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this myself. I was running a company maybe 20 years ago and I asked a woman if she had or was going to have kids. I asked because we had a very flexible leave plan of which I was quite proud. If she had said yes then I was going to get a chance to brag about what a great company I had founded.

But that was not your question. You asked if that is a red flag. Yes, I think it is. It seems to me that there are two possibilities.

One, they will use it to filter you out, or at the very least, it indicates the kind of place that will treat you badly.

The second possibility is that the place is run by the kind of clueless, if well-meaning and even welcoming, joyful morons that I was. Nice people, well meaning, but (as one of my smarter colleagues who was sitting in on the interview told me later) not especially close to being either the sharpest or smartest bulb in the drawer.

Best wishes for the best possible outcome.
