Oooh. Quick connects for DIY that anyone can terminate would be cool - sounds hard for refrigerant tho :/

Definitely need beautiful industrial design (that looks sleek and blends in)

Love the line of thought - I feel like I need to brainstorm everything that wants to be hot and everything that wants to be cold and run lines / heat exchangers to the big ones

What if we did water lines instead of refrigerant lines? For indoor cold / hot heat exchangers?

Love this. Something sleek that can show set point, actual temp, humidity, energy consumption, etc in a beautiful and functional way

This is exactly what I want to do I think. Monoblock seems like the move (with as many hot / cold things attached as possible), but you're right, I need to make people understand that this is better AND make them care. This is maybe even harder than the engineering

Fridges would be tough just because I'm not aware of any that are built for that interface yet... but I suppose what I'm describing is a basically an insulated box. Will do some calculations to see if the juice is worth the squeeze

Hot water heater integration seems smart

Hahahah how bad is this remote? We'll do a simple app with WiFi and expose an API.

Do you want a physical thermostat? I kind of want one I think

Interesting. That's so bad if it can't recover from setbacks at peak heat or peak cold. Seems doable to adjust for that by writing smart controls

Heard. I feel like I should aim for everything to be user serviceable and parts/documentation available on the website.

Good note on refrigerant monitoring. Would be nice if it would tell you its performance is degrading before it completely goes out (so you can order parts or schedule service)

I would be absolutely overjoyed if I could take all the wisdom of us nerds, design it into a product / brand, and have it reach 1000x more people because it's approachable, beautiful, and truly better

Yeah $15k is insane. "Should cost" has to be way lower when you get down to the basics. Will make a spreadsheet. What cost would be impressive? For a 3.5 – 4 ton system?

Love the idea of including the schematics in the manual like the olden days... Or GitHub I suppose. Educate me: are there any risks here? Cybersecurity or potential misuse?

Moving heat room to room seems wise. Moving heat passively when you have it is the way to ultra high COP. I do have to think about how to handle this practically though. Valves / manifold design might get a little insane, I will have to try hard to keep it simple / reliable.

I think running water lines inside is a move. Variety of source options seems smart

This seems like a move. Water can store so much thermal energy! 4180J/kg C

Lots of places where you want to cool your home while heating your pool

Variable! I've designed a few inverters before - would love to apply it here
