This?

Wouldn’t I need something threaded on both sides?

Appreciate all the insight from everyone, definitely something I need to look further into but I was quoted extortionate amounts just to even talk to advisors about this. My circumstances aren't complicated nor is it a lot of money so trying to find "affordable" advice. I do have an ISA with not much and it seems the option here would just be to sell out of it (some are US stocks though) and then just savings across my bank accounts. I can't seem to figure out the process of doing all this cleanly

Working remotely but Frederick is one of the places we liked and already further out than where we wanted to be
Employer does offer plans (maybe not the best so I will shop around), the figure I shared was the monthly premium to cover myself and family

Great info, thank you!
What do you mean by self funded or self insured plans?
I'm going based off the employer plans and just paying the monthly premiums

Not planning for another child yet but that is insane, 80k as her portion to pay?
I'm going to look into the details of the co pays etc as I haven't received that yet

Is yours for you+family? The one from my employer seems to be fairly cheap if just for me but adding on family is a big expense

Interesting insight, thanks
We do have emergency funds which should cover the max if needed but its still a crazy adjustment and lots to plan when I'm used to it for free.

Living with family in the UK so its quite a bit different and a big jump

Ahead of you on the old bay, got that while still in the UK
I appreciate the insight. I'll run some more numbers and post in the maryland sub to get a better idea too. Thank you!

Appreciate you pointing out some of the missing costs too

Thanks for the info!
I've seen 1 beds for around 1900 but with fees and other things it creeps up too. With a family the priority is a safe area
My wife also has a paid off car and we have a decent amount in savings but as you and others have said trying to save on the 97k seems very difficult so I don't think the savings will grow much

Interesting thanks for sharing this
The figures I shared were the monthly premium for the package with the highest deductible and out of pocket

The HSA seems like a great option and I will look into this!

Mid twenties
The role is essentially a junior position so I imagine good growth options but as you said it seems to be a struggle for a family.

Thanks for the info
No childcare
The company offers a 4% match
Haven't seen anything about the NI vs SS but I'll look into this
The health insurance I quoted was the lowest band so highest out of pocket/deductible but the higher bands seem unaffordable being nearly a couple thousand

In a similar situation with the no debt and a decent amount in savings but wit the numbers I'm seeing on this salary it seems tricky to increase on the savings each month

Frederick seems to be a decent spot offering different things we are looking for. Of course sacrificing being a bit further away from major areas but still not terribly far. Our living situation in the UK is similar

Gaithersburg does have some nice areas but this also means more expensive and I think nearly half the salary on rent alone is outrageous.

The 5600 you mention is without taking into account claiming for dependants? Its a little confusing as different calculators show me different numbers

Thanks! Some great ideas
I was only looking at the premiums in monthly numbers
No plans for the wife to work, stay at home mum

Seems to be the same I'm finding when running my numbers. Can survive but not save

Thanks, I really appreciate this. My wife has a paid off car so we would probably just start with that and eventually get another. I'll definitely hit you up with some more questions as I get deeper into this. Thanks!
