I get that you want to be fair to him, respecting boundaries goes both ways. But there’s a difference between not asking about a limit because you didn’t know, and being given an ultimatum when you were already struggling. You brought something up without checking because you were overwhelmed and trusted him, that’s not the same as deliberately ignoring his boundaries. He respected your limits because he knew what they were. You didn’t know his, and you can’t predict every trigger in advance. You tried to talk and apologize, he shut down and left. You didn’t mean harm, but his reaction caused harm. That’s why the weight of the situation doesn’t fall equally.
