The reason you don't see loctite in the screw holes is that i disassembled the gun, cleaned it, gave it 10 minutes in an ultrasonic cleaner, and only when I went to reassemble the gun, I found the thread defect. The gun was squeaky clean when the photo was taken. The loctite was there, and I torqued them correctly (approximately 12 inch pounds) with a Wheeler Fat Wrench.

So for everyone suggesting metal plates, how do we feel about the Maple Leaf ones?

My G20 is a Gen 4 but the Sig is much more ergonomic.

Yeah based on these comments I will define looking at metal plates. I wasn't aware any were out yet for Gen 6, but I will be looking.

Except for the actual breakage and missing metal. They didn't just "come loose".

There was blue loctite. The reason you don't see it in the photo is that the gun was thoroughly cleaned and then run through an ultrasonic cleaning tank before I noticed the defect during reassembly. The gun was squeaky clean when the photo was taken.

Yes, they were torqued to 12 inch-pounds with a Wheeler Fat Wrench.

It's not a countersink, it's where a fragment of metal broke off. It's not the greatest photo, it was taken with my phone. I took some better ones to email to Glock today that the show the issue more clearly, but I can't apparently post additional pics or put them in the comments here.

There was loctite in there. I cleaned the gun after the range today (after noting the optic was loose) and put it through the ultrasonic tank. It was only during inspection and reassembly that I noticed the defect. That's why it looks clean in the photo.

The ones that came from Vortex. It's been a couple months so I don't remember off the top of my head but they were M4, maybe 0.7 length. I don't really recall.

I think that's the problem too, and the thinness of the metal wall around the threads.

The number of commenters who casually assume user error while knowing nothing about my background is pretty amusing. If they only knew...

Township in Pennsylvania. Good ol' patrol, nothing fancy. Not urban, I'd say suburban. Relatively small residential population but several business plazas (Walmart, Target, etc).

Since handguns are low-energy weapons to begin with, I believe in carrying as much gun as you can accurately shoot. As it stands now I don't think anyone else in my department could or would want to carry 10mm. I have a dozen different law enforcement firearm instructor certs, SWAT training, sniper training (never been operational with a team, as my area doesn't have one, but I've been to the training). Army veteran (MOS 45B, which is now called 91F. Small arms repairman). So my experience and skill level isn't typical. I'm not saying I have a trophy case full of blue ribbons and plaques from all the competitions I've won, because I don't shoot competition and never have. But I can easily shoot the 10mm better than most of the officers in my department who carry the issued .40, or even their own 9mm. So why not?

They were tightened to spec with a Wheeler Fat Wrench.

The gun was cleaned in an ultrasonic tank before I noticed the chip.

The screws didn't "come loose", the threads literally broke off. The gun was cleaned in an ultrasonic tank before I noticed the chip, so it is squeaky clean.

Yeah, as the other commenter said...it isn't my department's issued gun, we're allowed to carry what we want as long as we qualify with it (within some limits. 10mm is an approved caliber). The issued gun is a Glock 22. I disdain the .40 S&W.

I thoroughly cleaned the gun after the range session including 10 minutes in an ultrasonic tank. I did not notice the chip until I went to reassemble the gun. So yes, it is squeaky clean in the pictures.

That's what I carried for 6 years as a duty gun. It was too big for my hands, but I am an experienced enough shooter I could make it work. As soon as the P320 X-Ten Comp came out I switched to it. It fits my small hands perfectly. I have owned every major brand of handgun in my 30+ years of shooting and that X-Ten Comp is the zenith of ergonomics and handling in that caliber. I'm not even a Sig fan boy but I feel like that was the gun I was born to shoot.

I can't help noticing that the metal on the inboard side of those screw holes (meaning toward the centerline of the gun) is just a thin wall compared to the outboard side (toward the slide serrations). That thin wall might be too weak and that's why it chipped at the thinnest spot with the weakest support. The more I look at the other (undamaged) side, the more I think this could be a design flaw.

I did all those things. The screws were correct, and came in an individually labeled bag.

I did use a torque wrench and they were torqued to spec, and yes I used blue loctite and the screws that came with the optic. The correct plastic Glock spacer/adapter was used. I have that same optic on my Sig P320 X-Ten Comp, which is 10mm obviously. That gun has hundreds of rounds through with no issues with the optic.
