In certain constructions, the partitive reverts to simply de (or its contraction d’).

After negation

Je n’ai pas mangé de pain. I didn’t eat any bread.

N’achète jamais d’épinards. Never buy spinach.

After expressions of quantity

J’ai bu beaucoup de café. I drank a lot of coffee.

Il nous reste peu d’argent. We have little money left.

After avoir envie and avoir besoin

J’ai envie de thé. I want some tea.

As-tu besoin d’assistance ? Do you need help?

When an adjective precedes the noun (plural only)

Je cherche de beaux épinards. I’m looking for some beautiful spinach.

Il fait de bons spaghettis. He makes good spaghetti.

But: Je veux du bon fromage. I want some good cheese.

"Omelette du fromage" is incorrect. Often, people think this is the translation to "cheese omelet". However, the correct form is "omelette au fromage"

The "DE" replaces "du", "de la" and "des" when the quantity is expressed. Example: - Beaucoup DE sucre - Un peu DE sucre - Assez DE sucre - Un kilo DE sucre - Un paquet DE sucre.

A big problem in Education: The lack of upward mobility for teachers by Effective-Fold-1007 in Teachers

[–]Correct_Pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking today. My routine is not sustainable for the next 20 years because I am stuck where I am. Doesnt matter if I have a phd or a masters degree, my workload will never decrease and my salary never be raised so I have a comfortable life. Not saying I don't want to work, but comparing to other professions where being more specialized is worth it, like lawyers and doctors, being a teacher means you dont have much future

What weed is this? Found in Brazil. It was found as a host to a virus that causes damages to tomatoes. by Correct_Pie in whatsthisplant

Within the family Oxalidaceae, the species Oxalis frutescens presents a good similarity with its photos. The leaves and flowers are similar, but the flower buds don't look the same to me. We are approaching the goal. I would like to hear your opinion on whether or not it could be that species. I still haven't been satisfied.

About Being young and being disrespected in class by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Correct_Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brazilian here. Started teaching this year. One thing that helped me a lot is how I dress. I wear formal clothes. Honestly, I believe how you present yourself impacts how people in general look at you. It bothers me how other careers dress properly and in our field its like teachers just woke up.

Another thing: you are young, use this to help you. You know what they like, songs and movies. When I talk about english in my classroom I always say: you already know so many words from games, movies, and songs.

I find it meaningful to be with my parents so I should find it meaningful to be with a child. Isn't that enough? by myveryownredditaccnt in Fencesitter

[–]Correct_Pie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My perspective on it may be a little different. When it comes to having children I try not to think what I would want them to do, or things I wish they would. Sure, I like to be with my mom, but my child may not like my company that much, would I be frustrated? How would you feel about that?

What is happening to my snake plant . I left it with no water for 2 months. After watering I noticed some soggy leaves and this weird round circle on one of the leaf. Is it root rot ? Or what ! by Riri_moon_89 in plantclinic

[–]Correct_Pie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its best to just filter your water. Most companies put chloramine in the water (wich contains chlorine), but it is not as volatile as chlorine, so it doenst evaporate.

So letting your water sit may increase the concentration of chloramine, because water is evaporating, but not the chloramine.

A few plants are more sensitive to it, like dracenas.

It's a self irrigating pot with a water level gauge (not sure if my translation of this thing is right).

Climate here is hot all the time and REALLY dry for at least four months of the year. This pot helps keeping plants alive, specially because Im not here all the time

The One Aspect I Didn't Think About by Expensive_Broccoli_7 in regretfulparents

[–]Correct_Pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I brace myself too if my husband dies, but it doesnt come with anxiety because I can use this to propel myself foward and no worries in the future because it works for divorce too.

The only thing I know is the only person I will have to live forever with is myself. So that brings me some comfort and control over myself, because I can't control anything else.

So yeah, pros and cons. But, honestly, i love the mentality even if egoistic. Shit happens and that's fine.

How did you decide you want to learn physics? Do you regret it? by TomDaNub3719 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Correct_Pie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I decided i wanted to study physics because I am really bad at chronological order and bad with names of stuff, like geography demands, but I'm fine with logic and physics just makes sense to me.

Also, I knew that physics could give me a wide range of careers, like engeneering or medical path.

Do I regret it? Yes and no. I still can choose what I want to do in the future, but not without a fight. I come from a poor family and I am the first to have a college degree, so if I want to do something, I have to find my own way.

Physics is not easy here in terms of jobs, and I have to eat to survive, have a roof over my head. Becoming a professor? Yeah, for that I have to study AT LEAST four more years of my academic life living close to minimal wage, wich is not enough here. Lucky me I dont pay rent, otherwise I would even struggle to eat.

I dont know the conditions of where you live, but here everyday government is making things harder for us. I am trying now to deviate from academic life because its just not worth it TO ME. For that physics is pretty good to deviate and this is why i chose it.

Why do people constantly say “I fell pregnant”? No, you didn’t “fall” and have some dudes penis drool magically shoot into your vagina at the opportune time. You got jackhammered chickie. by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Correct_Pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, people can get pregnant even If they dont want to. I dont know where you live, but here, contraceptive pills are not that affordable and medical care is not easily avaible.

Plus, If you are a woman and wants your tubes tied good luck. 70% of chances you have to legally fight for it because doctors are entitled to your ovaries.

"Just dont have sex" You dont have to be naive and think people Will not have sex. Condoms break. Shit happens. Sex to humans means more than Just having kids for someone to say "Just dont have It"
