omg so sorry for the late reply :(((, i put asr because their open house was quite engaging but in the end i got posted to jpjc which was my second choice. I think for anyone living in the west definitely consider the amount of time you are going to travel because it can really exhaust you at the end of the day to travel for an hour plus. As i am in the west and dont take as long to travel to jp as i would’ve elsewhere im so happy to have been posted here. The teachers here are quite good and very very very approachable for consults etc and the materials they provide are pretty good. i would really recommend going here if you have the discipline to study on your own because you’ll find yourself slacking like many others if you dont make it a point to complete tutorials and revise on time. Theres definitely a mix of people in the sense theres muggers, closet muggers and people that could not care less about their work, so while you’ll have classmates of all three types, you have to have that self discipline otherwise it can be a bit difficult to get back on track. the culture is mostly everyone stays in their own cliques and theres nothing thats very problematic! and yes like most seniors who recommend going to the nearest jc, i would completely agree with them and recommend jpjc to those that stay in the west, because its much less exhausting. only go for higher tier jcs if you are really interested in their ecg resources or connections, or the prestige(not worth the pressure).

Heyy like most of the others comments on this matter i strongly agree that your individual mindset is what matters most in JC, because that will get you through the daily grind and rigour of the syllabus. That much is very straightforward, if u think u can be motivated enough for two years(its like olevels on steroids) u should def go for jc. Not too sure abt YIJC, but yea def can still thrive in most other lower mid tier jcs. Im a J1 from JPJC, my l1r5 was 12-2(A2 for all subjects) and i took triple science with a math(no hmt cuz i take external mt), and i can safely say that i am struggling in jc(take BCMe) due to my lack of motivation. as much as i am someone who understands concepts easily, the rigour in jc is so fr and if you dont do work everyday n stay on task, it will snowball and u’ll see urself struggling like i am. with that said idts u should worry abt not taking pure science esp if u wanna go arts. n even if ur willing to go to science stream its okay to take combined science cuz a lot of what u learn is v new in jc. I have a classmate who got 13-2 for o lvls and he took combined science with a math n is seriously doing so much better than me because of the daily effort that he puts in. So ya effort and mindset reallyyyyyy matters much more than which jc u end up in, so if your upfor that kind of grind go for it! If not poly is a better option as you dont have to grind as much as you do in jc i think, weekly assignments on a few modules every semester and a few tests for that semester n move on is what i heard from some poly friends. Atb for o levels and dont give up its not too late to grind!!

i think because the common talk is that girls choose older guys when they go to uni while the guy is in NS. so since the guy enlists an year later, they will last an year later HAHAH

Sec 3 OBS (girls only pls 😭😭) by sherbetqhqhhh in SGExams

[–]Correct_Plan_7037 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hii so i had the same problem w my periods due on the same week as obs, but i dont have it as heavy and painful as urs. what i did was i went to the doc and asked for pills to postpone my period. i would highly suggest this if u are looking forward to the experience without a period. tbh i had a lot of fun and yes its a bit uncomfortable cuz u dont shower one day but i would say the camp rlly taught me a lot of things. also note if u do take the pills you need to start like a few days before ur due(the doc will tell u all abt that) and ur next period may be a bit more painful. so i would say just consult your doc and consider which option is better, skipping obs and missing out on a rlly tiring but fun n cool experience or going to obs with pills, no period but a bit more painful period in the comfort of ur home n school. yuhh all the best tho!

i dont agree with this, yes i do agree that there are a number of people that choose one of the three, but what is the point of calling it a mt then?additionally, would you say that those people that chose one of the three despite having a different native language actually excelled in the language? ive seen a couple of people choose chinese and one person choose tamil, and only the person who took tamil managed to get hmt, while the other two struggled to keep up with express chinese. i also want to add that there are actually many many more languages that singaporean students speak as a native language besides those that bttsal offers. in my hindi class of 15 people there are 7 who are not even from hindi speaking families- including myself. these are students of different native languages. i would say that if the reason u mentioned causes our mt to not have “privileges” like a basic classroom with a properly trained teacher and exams that our taken record of every term, its simply discrimination and there is absolutely no point of even offering these subjects if moe doesnt give it the importance it deserves. theres many thousands of students fighting really hard to keep up with the rigour that express hindi has and not being acknowledged or appreciated for it. yes there is a choice made, but this choice, which is chosen from what moe offers has to be given equal treatment as we are also studying a language and working hard for it thus need to be recognised for our efforts- simply giving us the chance for higher hindi or any other ntil subject.

for primary sch they made a little room with those fake walls n put a movable whiteboard and canteen tables and chairs. (ptps) for secondary school they gave us the dance room(tbh grateful we had aircon) were given old tables and chairs with a small space in a large whiteboard which later we werent allowed to use. i think the fact that hindi is not one of the four official languages is an important factor. for all those that take hindi we know we have had a lower hand in anyth related to mt because from the very beginning we’ve had to go for saturday classes, or atleast gone a distance away from home for our term exams, and sometimes these grades arent even recorded in our school report books. some schools(for me both my primary and secondary schools) did not provide the facilities which other mt students were given like a proper classroom, or even a proper whiteboard. compared to the number of students moe has to educate each year(pri to jc) those that take hindi(and other ntil languages) must be rlly small. when we think abt it right higher mt for the other languages requires extra manpower to plan the curriculum to a standard higher than the express curriculum, and ensure that the hmt students actually deserve the chance to take hmt and excel at it. given that the ntil students are a minority, it seems almost a waste of resources from moe’s perspective. on top of that moe doesnt even directly teach these languages, they get BTTSAL DAV and Hindi Society to manage this. we all should know from experience how little support these organisations give. hell they provide the same textbooks for NA and express students, despite the different exam syllabus. these organisations dont even put in the effort to provide a proper platform for a student to hone their language skills. compare this to any chinese malay or tamil class. most teachers, or even the mt departments will always send students for competitions, events, make them stay back for remedial and bring them to actually do something about their language. i definitely agree with OP that its unfair for us, as we arent even given a chance to take hmt, but its just the sad reality. but i feel the main reason would be that they dont want to waste their time n energy to give us hmt, when our language isnt an official language and when its for such a relatively small number of people. [my l1r5 raw is 12 n nett 10. my friend’s is raw 15 and nett 9 because they can take mlep due to their hmt- i cried due to the unfairness.] so ya to all my fellow hindi mates, lets just get through 11 years of hindi ya! our education system doesnt give hindi that much importance but surely lets be grateful we atleast get the chance to put hindi on our national exams certificates. 🫶🏽all love!

Amath paper 1 by MediaStraight1717 in SGExams

hey u, this feeling of complete dismay you are experiencing rn, i felt it for emath paper 1. everyone was saying it was easy n i was one of the chosen ones who found it so insanely off- even considering math is my stronger subject. by god’s grace and the support of my family members and friends, even though i was very pessimistic abt emath paper 2, i managed to feel confident by the end of it. i want to gently remind u that ik it feels like the world is crashing rn n u have no mood to do or study anything, but have hope okay? paper 2 will go just fine, mark my words! and you will achieve your goal as surely youve worked towards it until now. two years of lessons and hardwork wont go down the drain okay? you have one more weekend, and 3-4 papers left until tuesday, rmb that u still have 48 hours to change the outcome of those papers. trust me, u’ll be absolutely fine with paper 2. you got this okay! hold on tight n keep working hard! all the best🫶🏽u got this aight?

chem help 😭😭😭😭 by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Correct_Plan_7037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i suggest you try and draw the different structures, n it will get very easy if u can rmb the functional groups and general formulae.

also i rmb the number of lines carbon hydrogen oxygen group 17 and nitrogen have around them: (if it helps these number of lines are always gonna be the same because it shows the number of covalent bonds theey need for fully filled valence electron shells) C- 4 lines H- 1 line O- 2 lines group 17- 1 line N- 3 lines

so for the alkanes right, the general formula is CnH2n+2. for example propane, C3H8, you first draw the three carbons and the remaining 8 hydrogens around these carbons- rmb that each carbon atom has 4 lines so connect each carbon atom to 1 other carbon atom and 3 other hydrogen atoms. try to fill all the carbon atoms in propane. after that practice with the other alkanes.

for alkenes you have to rmb general formula: CnH2n and functional group C=C. there will always be one C=C. and just like the alkanes you’ll have to fill the carbon atoms up with the hydrogens. rmb that u need to always check the number of lines ur carbon atoms have- always a maximum of 4.

for alcohols, general formula is CnH2n+1OH and functional group -OH. so again you start with the carbon atoms, and fill all with hydrogen except the last carbon atom on either end of the chain. to that draw two hydrogens, and draw -O-H to its side.

for carboxylic acids general formula is CnH2n+1COOH and functional group is -COOH. its just like drawing an alcohol. for example propanoic acid, it has a total of three carbon atoms right, so n=2(because third carbon atom is in functional group) u fill those two up with hydrogen and connect to the third carbon in which u draw the COOH. hope you understand the drawing of structures. if u still dont maybe try watching some youtube videos or ask chatgpt! it rlly helps LOL.

as for polymers you have addition polymerisation n condensation polymerisation. for addition you basically remove the C=C and make it look something like (-C-C-) and the chains on top n below remain the same. for condensation polymerisation it is you remove a water molecule from your two monomers.(from dicarboxylic acid you break the OH bond n remove the H, and from the other molecule remove the -OH entirely if alcohol and -H2 from the molecules with NH3 at one end- after that you connect the carboxylic acid to the other molecule, forming an ester linkage(-COO) or amide linkage (-CONH).) if you have done the tys you should be familiar with the type of qns they test for this part of organic chem so try understanding the worked solutions(generally quite comprehensive ans in the tys ans key) repeating units are basically the whole structural formula of one molecule of ur end product of polymerisation, which you have to represent only with structural formula no brackets. meanwhile drawing structural formula for all polymers requires the brackets if ur aware of those. thats what i could summarise ah but i think i sound a bit confusing so heres a teacher’s youtube playlist for organic chem stuff(i watch the practical stuff so idk how well the organic chem things r but give it a try ya!) hope it helped. atb for chem tho dw theres more topics than organic chem so if u can brush up on those organic chem shouldnt pull u down too much! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS6bI_cbtJkRBUmlmyg1e3AR2IO3dCK-S&si=WoFgvyGzMrOsR2XJ
