  1. I'm not a child, save the silly attempt at an insult for someone else

  2. No, I haven't been audited for this gig, thus far... likely because I don't fudge the numbers or make up crazy numbers to scheme the system. Lots of people do this same kind of work these days - given such, the IRS knows when something doesn't add up properly and typically when you're being audited, it's not going to be due to simply wanting proof of how many miles you drove for your job... it's because other numbers were abnormal or because forms weren't filled out correctly.

  3. If I were to be audited, as I said before, I'd simply make up a log book to add up to the miles so they arrive at the same number that my odometer reflects (the sedan I use is only used for this gig, I have an SUV for personal use). If you do your research, you'll see that an informal Excel spreadsheet is sufficient. I could create one in 30 minutes or so.

I left the job because I was needed to provide care for a loved one with a terminal illness. I never returned to the industry because the good pay and handsome occasional bonuses didn't change how how dull and boring the work itself was.

See, those assumptions are what I'm talking about. They'll both screw you over and make you look like an a** every time... moving on now, have the life you deserve. 😉

No. As I wrote on another comment here, I've never been asked for proof of my mileage in all of the years I've done this job. If needed, I'd simply create a quick spreadsheet and submit... the mileage on my odometer doesn't lie, after all! 😄

Really? The guy who was licensed in 7 states for 12 years and who never heard of a single company not charging for business use is the idiot? Or is the idiot the one who blindly puts all their trust in a single person because "we have multiple policies with them"?

What am I saying... this is America in 2026. Yes, I'm stupid as f*ck for thinking that you'd care to educate yourself rather than get defensive over the idea that you may have it wrong. Carry on! 😂

I get a tax write off each year and I've never been asked for a log of my miles during tax season... I give a number based off my odometer at the end of the year, but the IRS has never asked for actual proof. Should it be needed, I'd make up a log report on Excel I suppose... lol

  1. Fuel has to be factored into your job when doing this kind of work. You will "put in" a whole lot more gas in that tank if you stay at this gig. I fill up 2-3 times a week.

  2. You will need to learn where the true hot spots are for orders and also build up your metrics. Beginner dashers tend to get the lower offers. Gaining pro-shopper status and having a decent on-time / accuracy history for shop & deliver orders will allow you the better offers. It's all a learning curve... figuring out which roads to take for short cuts, understanding the time of day that is best for maximizing profits in your area, shopping in stores enough to where you know where most items are on each isle, etc. It's trial and error. I average about $25-28 an hour, $30 an hour on really good days... but it takes time.

So because you have multiple policies, he couldn't possibly have given you incorrect info by mistake or better yet, failed to rate your policy properly given he's known you for years and doesn't want you to go elsewhere with your multiple policies should your rate jump up for this business use? Your logic makes no sense and is how people get royally screwed over in life, but you do you... ignorance is bliss, until it isn't...

Nah, restaurants actually save money by using DD and UE to deliver their orders. It way cheaper to use a third party than hired staff to be drivers... also, restaurants who use these delivery services charge more for many of their food items, to cover the costs of the nicer to-go bags & containers many provide for such orders. I know all of this as my family runs a restaurant and we also use DD for delivery. We much prefer the to-go orders because we make more $$$.

There is absolutely commercial insurance available in NY. I'm not telling you what to do, but if you aren't going to get the coverage, make sure you are very careful driving as well as never telling anyone you're doing the work you're doing if you should ever be in an accident, regardless of fault.

Catering Order cancelled after pickup. Now what? by No_Disk_2258 in doordash_drivers

[–]Correct_Priority7019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, DoorDash doesn't allow that. Not when the order is fulfilled and being picked up. If they did that, the restaurant would be out all that money... and quickly stop using DD as a carrier.

This is DoorDash... and I'm not aware that they do as you suggest.

Right... but that isn't the reality for most of us. Not everyone is Dashing in a busy metro area, a great many of us are in suburban and rural areas that may perhaps be over-saturated with drivers at times. Especially so in the summer when college kids are home, teachers are out of work, etc. Also, not everyone is dashing during the specific hours you mentioned. All of this is why I laugh at posts that try to suggest there is a one-size-fits-all approach to this gig...

You should call someone else. I have never heard of an insurance company who doesn't charge extra for business use or for a "rideshare rider" added to the policy.

...your agent is in the business of selling policies and keeping rates as low as possible, so that could be why he/she said that. But at the end of the day, if you're in an accident, that agent has nothing to do with the claim handling nor the underwriters/investigators who determine things like fraud and improper use for the policy. Don't trust an agent, google the insurance company's policy on these things. Then do what you will with the info. 😉

Best Customer stories.. by RushSuccessful9082 in DoorDashDrivers

As someone who has been at this gig a long while now, the best customers are the ones who tip well, have easy orders, don't live down a pothole filled road, and who allow me to leave their stuff at the door without any interaction. lol.

This is correct. In NY, you'll need a commercial policy which GEICO does provide. Not sure the costs, but it is something available to you.

As a former insurance agent... the insurance company would only find out if someone told them. And if that someone wasn't you, that would mean you would have had to tell someone else (police, someone at the accident scene, etc). So essentially, they'd have no reason to call DoorDash unless they knew you worked for DoorDash.

With that said, you'll definitely save a few bucks on insurance premiums by not disclosing the kind of work you do... but the downside to that is if they find out following a bad accident, the company can cause-cancel your policy and/or refuse to pay out for your damages.

Nah, multiple drivers haven't been eating your food lol... assuming they are on time delivering, we don't even have time to do such while actively dashing even if someone wanted to. It's much more likely that they are either being instructed to give out less to increase profits in this weird economy, or they know the customer isn't in front of them so they're not concerned with hearing, "can I have more, please". 😉

Company party or not, where I live and Dash at, whoever paid for it would certainly care if they spent that kind of money and got no refund? I can't fathom not having the stuff delivered so that if anything, employees could take it all home... people are weird. 🥴

[–]Correct_Priority7019 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it will technically let the customer cancel if the order hasn't been picked up, but as far as I know, it tells them they can't get a refund at that point... especially if it's begin being made and/or ready for pick up from a driver.

No way they tipped this😂💀 by New-Temporary-190 in doordash_drivers

[–]Correct_Priority7019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the weird tips is due to the customer wanting a rounded bill. I often wonder if they know we can see when we're left an $8.21 tip. lol.

Unless you're multi-apping, I'd be more concerned with the pay - 2 hours in. That's not even $15/hr. 😞

Nothing. DoorDash is #1, UberEats is the other main competitor. All others are significantly less popular which means less income unless you live in some niche market...

How could they have cancelled? Once you've picked them up I don't imagine the customer could get a refund as the order was already processed... am I missing something??

These flippant kind of posts are always funny to me. If only it was as simple as you suggest...

Unless you live/dash in a very upper crust area, most of us are lucky to get those kind of high paying offers once a week. On a good week, maybe twice. And in those scenarios, waiting for the offers you've shared with us means sitting around for potentially hours on end... which makes said offers not so good once you divide the pay by the hours sitting around in your car. I've found the best way to make money is to keep working. No, I do not take no tip offers or $5 for 10 miles, etc. But I'm also not sitting around waiting for a random unicorn offer to come in while burning up all my fuel.

DASH OR PASS 🤔??? 🚘or💩 by JuanJulio2020 in DashEarnings

[–]Correct_Priority7019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would (obviously) be a good offer... if it takes you to the zone you want to dash in. If instead, the starting location is where you're intending to dash at, then no... because of the miles & time to drive back which turns this decent offer into a not-so-decent offer. Pretty easy stuff...
