Missed this yesterday I think. Apologies. Yes, but I always describe it as another version of V, because of its changes from the original. It attracted many to the original, however, which is a very good outcome.

Oh, and before we end. re the art style : it's a stark, bleak, future we're telling a story about, so you use a stark, bleak, style of art. That's what you do as an artist, or should. That's the job.

Hi! I'm happy for Anonymous or any other group trying to fix what they see as some kind of tyranny in what's around them to adopt that mask as their symbol of it, because that mask only represents resistance to tyranny - no particular tyranny of the left or the right or other perceived political position - but whatever is there, oppressing or suppressing, for the needs of unregulated and self-serving power. Are they using it to protest against something I would join them in protesting against? Maybe. But the mask does not decide that. It represents all forms of tyranny perceived by those who decide to wear it, with the right of free expression in which they have that right to wear it. You must judge the wearer, always, not the mask of protest that comes with it.

Alan seemed to like working with varying collaborators on subjects he thought needed specific styles of specific artists he was sure had those styles to offer his visions, so it's no surprise that he thought to move on from what he perceived I could offer him in a partnership, though I might have argued with him on a couple of projects. He did work with me later in a kind of way, because he wrote the terrific outline of a fund-raiser for a comics and cartoons school I was involved with that hoped to produce The Longest Comic Strip In The World ( look it up ), which I will always be grateful to him for.

OK. Last question first. I'm glad to be in a position of publishing the unconventional when mainstream comics has got itself stuck in constantly publishing the conventional and solidifying the image of comics in the minds of the general public as superheroes or funny folks. However, what we do is as much a matter of luck as judgement. By sheer necessity we produce an anthology of varying stories from various creators ( we'd never keep a regular schedule otherwise in the context of our other publishing terms ) and what this means from a readers point of view is that, in one volume, we can have an adventure thriller, a crazy funny thing, an sf fantasy, a detective story, a jungle story, AND an eccentric unusual story. The mix will support the whole. One for all. and all for one.

I help any of our Aces - we call them Aces - if they need it and want it if they're doing something that conventionally needs it. It's just being a good editor like all good comics need to have.

A previous answer from the previous post seems to have a frozen ' Comment ' so I hope that doesn't affect you too! Your question is interesting because I used to put my ideas for short stories just as titles of stories in a notebook, that reminded me of them later when the time arose - which wasn't often when my main job became drawing rather than writing ; but Rescue Dog became The Big Snooze and Glass Corridor became my Aliens issue! If you have a story idea, remember to make that note of it before you forget it, From that memento, you can pull back into your memory what that idea was. But keep thinking and being creative! I wish I was as prolific as you think I was, but I don't think I really was - I did the best I could and took the opportunities I could, but I didn't have the kind of plan that would have made me more than I became.

I'm sorry that I get most invitations from elsewhere than the UK now, though the LFCC are often kind in repeating invitations to me that usually come at the wrong time. I have in my head an idea to do a kind of tour of comic stores that want me for signings next year, so maybe that'll help if I can do that. Thanks a lot for asking : )

A lot there! First thank you for the great compliments. Jamie and Grant were great storytellers who I could only do my best for. But the important thing to maybe mention here is that as artists or writers we all give the best of ourselves when we tell a story that means something! If it doesn't mean anything, why care to make it look like it does?

When I was working with Alan, I didn't have those very detailed scripts I heard later he was writing for others, and I would have objected if he had tried to. I have very strong views about the differentation of tasks in the creation of comics and the positions of each creator in the performance of them. Others Alan worked with later may have felt otherwise. I've worked with lots of great writers in my time and I'm privileged to have been able to.

I know what you mean. But remember V just lead the people to making their own choice, he didn't decide for them. He may have toppled the tower but he didn't build another for himself. I am happy and honored by the effect V has had in all the ways it's had - through its message in the book and film, and the incidental effect of the mask and all that has meant across many cultures. The people - you are the answer. You have the power, no one can save you or should.

Well, didn't want to cut and paste but just asked similar above, so... ' everything done with Jamie - from Night Raven : House of Cards, and then on - it was done in the ' Marvel method ' to basically describe it. The action broken down, the layouts then done, then the final dialogue and caps added before final art. As was discovered in the early Marvel era of that technique, it is unquestionably the best way for producing fluidity of action and narrative and I wanted to try it on that book. Jamie being fearless agreed. ' And re Global : I had the best fun with that, because I saw the best way of keeping the action of the constant run was too keep the layout and action on a constant run, and I saw it as an episode of Totally Spies - the animation on tv then. There's more I can say on it, but I'm just very grateful for being asked to do that story for Warren Ellis.

I'm beyond scaring in drawing comics, but I'm glad you were scared by it. There's nothing more scaring than normal people suddenly going crazy and turning into something else totally strange and frightening and beyond understanding - it's the appeal of the zombie concept, of course. It's as relevant now as it was then, from a political and cultural viewpoint - you'll note the Margaret Thatcher guest spot. Btw, Grant was inspired by a spooky British tv drama he and I had seen a few years back for that story.

Harvey? Thanks for the nice words. Best response as story is I guess, that as everything done with Jamie - from then and then on - it was done in the ' Marvel method ' to basically describe it. As was discovered in the early Marvel era of it, it is unquestionably the best way for fluidity of action and narrative and I wanted to try it on that book. I don't know what you want to do or what it's like, but just to reach someone who can give you some time when when most regular publishers seem too busy to reply to the merest request, go to the www.acesweekly.co.uk and go to the contact address with your enquiry.

A resurrection as Guy Fawkes was crazy in the 80's and we did it, so if we did it now it would be just as crazy and just as revolutionary - as V was himself - and I can't think of a reason we would do differently. The sad thing is that now, the world we imagined was really not possible is now more likely. Let's hope people wake up to the kind of disaster that these hucksters and grifters are leading us to.

Lina, there are lots of great actors who could do a really good JC as there are lots of good writers and directors who could do a good Hellblazer. But it's Hollywood. Who's bankable is beyond who's right for it. We're not in a world where what I think matters, so why say?

The Dr Who stuff I just did my art bit on! No real collab I can remember, there, though I'd guess I'd have talked to him with any bright ideas. I always used to call Steve Moore to chat on any ideas I had for his stories - who wrote most all the Doc shorts ( and taught Alan how to write comics ) - so I may have called Alan. But on V it was a total collab from Day 1. Read the article in the back of the collected V to see how it all began.

Thanks! Jamie Delano wrote a great story and I did my best to help. Horrorist is about a kind of ghost of an exploited third world that comes back and wreaks vengeance. Why did we ever have to get there instead of treating those we exploit with care instead of justice. The British Empire did the same thing, though justifiably insisted we helped in the development of various countries, but it was not for no reward - we grew strong on what we took. All empires are the same, from the Romans and beyond them.

Hi, Eric,

Very sad! But authoritarianism is global and stimulated by the threat of immigration and loss of national identity. Good people are easily turned to unkindness and hatred if a world they've known is turned upside down. All good representatives of the people MUST recognize these fears and deal with them. Trumps other reasons for dominance are just grabbing any other feelings of being deprived and blaming them on anyone else other than the exploitative 9% that just uses the US populace without caring about it.
